Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to adapt and validate the Job Crafting Scale (JCS), a measure based on the conceptualization of job crafting of the job demands–resources theory, for a sample of Portuguese workers and to test its psychometric properties regarding validity (factor, convergent, discriminant, and criterion) and reliability.
Design/methodology/approach
Two subsamples (n1 = 315 and n2 = 329) of Portuguese workers aged 18 years old and over participated in this research. Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were used to assess the factor structure.
Findings
The results indicated that the Portuguese version of the JCS, with 18 items, has a factor structure composed of four-correlated factors. Furthermore, the results demonstrated the existence of factor, discriminant, and criterion validity, as well as reliability.
Originality/value
This study provides a job crafting measure adapted to the Portuguese language that can serve as a diagnostic tool for workers and organizations.

Este estudio tuvo como objetivo adaptar y validar la Job Crafting Scale (JCS), una medida basada en la conceptualización de job crafting de la Teoría de Demandas-Recursos, para una muestra de trabajadores portugueses y probar sus propiedades psicométricas en cuanto a validez (factor, convergente, discriminante y de criterio) y confiabilidad.
Diseño/metodología/enfoque
En esta investigación participaron dos submuestras (n1 = 315 y n2 = 329) de trabajadores portugueses de 18 años o más. Se utilizó un análisis factorial exploratorio y un análisis factorial confirmatorio para evaluar la estructura factorial.
Resultados
Los resultados indicaron que la versión portuguesa del JCS, con 18 ítems, tiene una estructura factorial compuesta por cuatro factores correlacionados. Además, los resultados demostraron la existencia de validez factorial, discriminante y de criterio, así como confiabilidad.

Este estudio proporciona una medida de job crafting adaptada a la lengua portuguesa que puede servir como herramienta de diagnóstico para trabajadores y organizaciones.

Resultados
Os resultados obtidos indicaram que a versão portuguesa da JCS, composta por 18 itens, possui uma estrutura fatorial composta por quatro fatores correlacionados. Além disso, os resultados demonstraram a existência de validade fatorial, discriminante e de critério, bem como de fiabilidade.
Originalidade/valor
Este estudo fornece uma medida de job crafting adaptada para a língua portuguesa que pode servir como ferramenta de diagnóstico para trabalhadores e organizações.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to propose a framework to assess the readiness of Brazilian small and medium service companies to use Industry 4.0 technologies to improve the efficiency of processes, reinforcing the idea that evaluating and planning the implementation is as important as the use, without the need for big investments.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper presents two applications on the readiness level of small and medium enterprises, with support from researchers and stakeholders. The literature seems to focus more on the maturity level than on providing a sequence of operational steps or decision support. It would lead to better implementation of I4.0 technologies in assessing the company’s readiness level to adopt them.
Findings
The authors analyze the relevant case studies in Brazilian small and medium service enterprises based on the proposed framework to investigate the main challenges and hardships for Industry 4.0 readiness in the current scenario and outline directions to increase their readiness for adopting key Industry 4.0 technologies. Moreover, the case studies consolidate a fundamental advantage to small and medium enterprise service: a guided implementation provides more knowledge about products, processes and I4.0 technologies, even in unsuccessful case studies.
Practical implications
The need was identified when studying market trends with the digital transformation provided by Industry 4.0 technologies and, in parallel, the difficulties of small and medium service companies in adapting to this new scenario. Through the proposed framework, an action plan can be drawn up with well-defined objectives, goals and activities so that the service enterprises can increase their Industry 4.0 readiness level within three months.
Originality/value
A relevant aspect is that this study is based on feedback from stakeholders and managers, which makes the analyses and conclusions from empirical points of view without relevant theoretical knowledge of the relationship between I4.0 technologies. Therefore, the proposed framework made it possible to diagnose the organization’s external and internal environments, allowing the ideal condition and the current situation of the companies to be compared, as argued in the Industry 4.0 readiness literature review.

Abstract
Purpose
This research analyses the impact of experiential marketing events on word-of-mouth for destination brands while considering the moderating role of brand familiarity and the mediating role of brand equity.
Design/methodology/approach
The study is based on a survey of 844 participants in a real event organised by a leisure Spanish destination with a large inflow of national and international attendees, in conjunction with the city government where it is located.
Findings
Attendees’ evaluation of the event exerted a significant positive effect on word-of-mouth. However, brand equity – which is built over time via past marketing actions – mediates this relationship. Meanwhile, brand familiarity moderates the relationship between people’s overall evaluation of the event, brand equity and positive recommendations.
Practical implications
These results offer guidance to destination managers regarding reoccurring experiential marketing events. Participants with high appraisal of events serve to create buzz and amplify the event experience for others.
Originality/value
The study is a novel attempt to analyse the influence of visitors’ experiences on brand destination outcomes by considering the moderating role of brand familiarity – an issue that, to our knowledge, has not been assessed in the context of events. The results make clear that mere exposure to a brand does not necessarily lead to brand equity and WOM. Instead, managers must design experiential events carefully – not only to convert sporadic visitors into frequent customers but also to keep consistent clients from losing interest.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to examine the digital literacy (DL) competencies among librarians and paraprofessionals of public libraries in Western Visayas, Philippines. It also investigated the digital programs implemented, the factors enabling or deterring these programs, DL practices and the availed and needed continuing DL skills development.
Design/methodology/approach
The study adopted the proposed competence areas and competencies for the Digital Literacy Global Framework. A mixed method was used. A total of 10 librarians and 32 paraprofessionals coming from 16 public libraries in the region were surveyed. A follow-up interview was conducted with the five public libraries’ head librarians and library-in-charge.
Findings
Results showed that librarians demonstrated relatively higher levels of DL competencies in all seven areas than paraprofessionals. Librarians and paraprofessionals rated the digital content creation competencies the lowest among the seven areas. Financial constraints, slow internet connection, limited library technology spaces, lack of training and seminars, insufficient digital resources, inadequate librarian and staff and multiple library roles were expressed as limiting factors in implementing digital programs in public libraries. Partnership training is the only DL skills development program availed by the librarians and paraprofessionals. They expressed the need to have library automation and digital content creation workshops.
Originality/value
The study attempts to measure the DL skills of librarians and paraprofessionals of public libraries in Western Visayas, Philippines. Capacity building for librarians and paraprofessionals should focus on the items rated very poor to average.

Purpose
This study examines the themes present in circular economy disclosures that are published in the integrated reports of banks and analyzes their readability scores.
Design/methodology/approach
From 2016 to 2022, a comparative analysis of the integrated reports from six publicly listed Turkish banks that are significant global players was conducted. A total of 21 reports were analyzed, for readability scores and their environmental disclosures from a circular economy perspective were calculated using textual and sentiment analysis techniques.
Findings
The findings of this study underscore the significant involvement of banks in key areas of the circular economy, such as waste management, renewable energy, emission reduction and sustainable financing. Moreover, the study also reveals that the readability of environmental disclosures in the analyzed integrated reports was generally low, suggesting that the information presented may challenge stakeholders and decision-makers and prevent full comprehension, thereby potentially impeding the most effective engagement by stakeholders with circular economy initiatives.
Originality/value
This study introduces a new approach to circular economy reporting by exploring the application of data analytics models when assessing readability within environmental disclosures. It specifically focuses on the context of integrated reporting within the banking sector, an area that has not yet been extensively explored. The study further underscores the importance of clear and concise communication when engaging stakeholders in circular economy efforts. The implications of this research for the banking and environmental sectors thus make this study a valuable addition to the existing literature.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to comprehensively explore the behaviour of potential consumers in terms of their perception of how local agri-food co-creation activities in rural areas influence the perceived quality of agri-food products and the perceived value of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) in rural areas. To do so, it is important to start by answering the research question: Are consumers interested in the co-creation of agri-food products in rural areas?
Design/methodology/approach
The methodology consists of two phases, one qualitative and one quantitative. The first phase includes four interviews with experts on gastronomy, rural tourism and services in rural areas and two focus groups with consumers involved in the research topic. In the quantitative phase, a representative sample of almost 700 people in Spain was obtained.
Findings
The first result shows a high level of interest in participating in co-creation activities with agri-food products in rural areas. Other research results suggest that the social integration of consumers with the local community through co-creation activities could improve the appreciation and market position of local foods, as well as their perceived beneficial effect on sustainable development goals. The results also demonstrate how the perceived value of co-creation activities has a positive impact on the intention to undertake and recommend such activities.
Originality/value
This study highlights the importance of co-creation in rural areas, in line with the SDGs and consumer preferences for locally produced sustainable food. Involving consumers in the production process allows small producers to stand out, fostering innovation and rural development. The results show consumers' interest in co-creation, motivated by altruism and the desire to preserve local heritage. The study highlights the indirect impact of co-creation on rural development, emphasising the perceived value and engagement of consumers. Ultimately, it suggests promoting sustainable rural economies through collaborative efforts between producers, consumers and local stakeholders.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to provide an organizing lens for viewing the distinct contributions to knowledge production from those research communities addressing the impact of competitive strategy on company performance in general, and the influence of cost leadership and differentiation strategy on organizational performance in detail.
Design/methodology/approach
The research methodology was based on the PRISMA review, and thematic analysis based on an iterative process of open coding was analyzed and then the sample was analyzed by illustrating the research title, objectives, method, data analysis, sample size, variables and country.
Findings
The main factor that influenced the competitive strategy is strategic growth; strategic growth has a significant influence on competitive strategy. Furthermore, competitive strategy will boost firm network, performance measurement and organization behavior. In the same way, the internal goal factor will enhance organizational effectiveness. Also, a differentiation strategy will support management practice factors, strategic positions, product price, product characteristics and company performance.
Originality/value
This study contributes to the literature by identifying a framework of competitive strategy factors, company performance factors, cost leadership strategy factors, differentiation strategy factors and competitive strategy with global market factors. This study provides a complete picture and description of the resulting body knowledge in competitive strategy and organizational performance.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this article is to deepen on the crime of assets misappropriation (AM) in the company, collecting through a systematic review of the published scientific literature those factors or theories that are being used when writing about this type of crime, as well as the implications for the business context.
Design/methodology/approach
The PRISMA methodology of systematic review has been used, from which 21 articles have been included, all of them published since 2005 in scientific journals related to the financial and economic context, but also to the criminological approach.
Findings
The articles provide several factors that are currently of interest in the study of the crime of AM in the company: the type of company in which this crime occurs, the most frequent types of AM, the elements of prevention used, as well as the profile and characteristics of employees who usually commit this type of crime.
Research limitations/implications
The conclusions of this article show the importance of studying this type of crime to combat it, not only because of the economic implications but also because of how it affects other spheres of the business context. The research has focused exclusively on articles written in English with the keyword “misappropriation assets”, which may have limited the inclusion of other articles of interest, although the objective of this study is precisely to evaluate the scientific interest in this specific type of Fraud.
Practical implications
Conclusions are drawn regarding prevention elements that are currently being used in the company to detect and combat this type of crime, as well as suggestions for future research.
Originality/value
This article seeks to support and encourage the study of this type of crime in business, following the sustainable development goals, which are the global goals designed to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and ensure global prosperity, among which is the promotion of business ethics and transparency in economic activities, for which the crime of misappropriation is a violation of these principles.

Purpose
This article sets out to show how principles and questions about method that underlie a way of interpreting the discipline of conservation and restoration can find results in research and studies, aiming at achieving even conscious reuse process. The occasion is the very recent research performed on the former Church of Saints Gerolamo and Francesco Saverio in Genoa, Italy, the Jesuit church annexed to the 17th-century College of the order. It is a small Baroque jewel in the heart of the ancient city, former University Library and actually abandoned, forgotten for years, inaccessible and awaiting a new use.
Design/methodology/approach
The two-year work carried out on the monumental building was conducted according to a study and research methodology developed and refined over the years within the activities of the School of Specialisation in Architectural Heritage and Landscape of the University of Genoa. It is a multidisciplinary and rigorous approach, which aims to train high-level professionals, up-to-date and aware of the multiple problems that interventions on existing buildings, especially of a monumental nature, involve.
Findings
The biennal study has been carried out within the activities of the Post-Graduate Programme in Architectural Heritage and Landscape of the University of Genoa. The work methodology faces the challenges of the contemporary complexity, raised by the progressive broadening of the concept of cultural “heritage” and by the problems of its conservation, its active safeguard and its reuse: safety in respect of seismic risk, fire and hydro geological instability, universal accessibility – cognitive, physical and alternative – resource efficiency, comfort and savings in energy consumption, sustainability, communication and involvement of local communities and stakeholders.
Originality/value
The goals of the work were the following: understanding of the architectural heritage, through the correlated study of its geometries, elements and construction materials, surfaces, structures, spaces and functions; understanding of the transformations that the building has undergone over time, relating the results of historical reconstructions from indirect sources and those of direct archaeological analysis; assessment of the state of conservation of the building recognising phenomena of deterioration, damage, faults and deficits that affect materials, construction elements, systems and structures; identification of the causes and extent of damage, faults and deficits, assessing the vulnerability and level of exposure of the asset to the aggression of environmental factors and related risks; evaluation of the compatibility between the characteristics of the available spaces, the primary needs of conservation, the instance of regeneration and possible new uses; the definition of criteria and guidelines for establishing the planning of conservation, restoration and redevelopment interventions.

Purpose
Blockchain is a nascent technology that has the ability to revolutionize the workings of the educational landscape. However, there are several barriers to the adoption of blockchain technology (BCT). So, this paper aims to determine, rank and analyse the interdependent contextual relationship among the BCT adoption barriers within the education management system (EMS) of higher education institutes.
Design/methodology/approach
The present research principally uses the technology-organization-environment model for the classification of BCT adoption barriers in the EMS. An integrated dual phase best-worst method and interpretive structural modelling – cross-impact matrix multiplication applied to classification (BWM-ISM-MICMAC) analysis is used for the identification, prioritization and analysis of the contextual relationships among the BCT barriers.
Findings
The findings of the research show that the environmental barrier among the primary barriers and the lack of government initiatives among the sub-barriers are crucial barriers to BCT adoption in the EMS.
Research limitations/implications
Certain barriers might not be selected during the literature review and expert opinions might be biased. Future studies should use structural equation modelling to validate the relationships between BCT barriers and conduct similar research across other business sectors to provide valuable insights for scholars and practitioners alike.
Practical implications
The study facilitates a better perspective of BCT barriers and explores possible solutions more comprehensively for policymakers and field managers. Consequently, it offers viable suggestions for the successful and effective implementation of BCT within the EMS.
Originality/value
The concept of using the blockchain in academics is a novel one. This study establishes a crucial research base for the smooth adoption of BCT in EMS.
