Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to analyse the effect of vision, hearing and haptics on tourism metaverse previews and pre-experiences and compares the effects of metaverse previews and pre-experiences on the intention to visit.

Design/methodology/approach

A sample of 172 individuals answered an online survey about their previous interaction with the tourism metaverse – 104 had tourism metaverse previews, and 68 had tourism metaverse pre-experiences. Then, a case study of a tourism metaverse pre-experience was analysed to strengthen and further understand the quantitative study.

Findings

While vision and hearing are significant in tourism metaverse previews, only vision and haptics contribute to obtaining a sense of presence in tourism metaverse pre-experiences, although the potential of hearing. Tourism metaverse pre-experiences have a stronger positive impact on the intention to visit the destination than tourism metaverse previews.

Practical implications

Practitioners should integrate the sense of haptics in the metaverse pre-experiences, despite the costs involved, because the immersive sense of presence has stronger effects on visit intentions than metaverse previews. However, the dependence on sensorial stimuli and the effect on tourism growth may limit the advantages of metaverse as an alternative for impaired tourists and to reduce overtourism.

Originality/value

This paper clarifies the different effects that each sensory stimulus has in the sense of presence, depending on different levels of immersiveness, requiring congruence. The value of metaverse pre-experiences is highlighted with the evidence of strengthening the intention to visit.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this research is to examine fans' perceptions of pro-environmental sustainability initiatives promoted by a professional sport club and the ensuing effects on a triple bottom line (TBL) approach (i.e. fans' socially, environmentally and economically favourable behaviours).

Design/methodology/approach

Data were collected in two different steps using an online self-administered questionnaire (n1 = 1,043; n2 = 2,167) distributed to fees-paying members registered in the club's database. The analysis was carried out though structural equation modelling.

Findings

The results indicate good psychometric properties of the scale used to measure fans' perceptions of a club's pro-environmental sustainability initiatives (perceptions of pro-environmental sustainability initiatives in sports; p-PESIS). Additionally, there is a positive effect of p-PESIS on fans' social behaviours as well as on their daily environmental actions. Furthermore, p-PESIS also shows a positive effect at improving fans' economic activities towards the club.

Originality/value

Extending previous research, the authors tested a scale to measure fans' responses to pro-environmental sustainability initiatives in sport and examined their links to the TBL dimensions. Pro-environmental sustainability initiatives in sport benefit not only the club itself (by reinforcing fans' activities with the club) but also society as a whole, as it can promote fans' conscientiousness and likelihood to behave in environmentally and socially favourable ways.

Abstract

Purpose

The present research aims to investigate the influence of organizational positioning by drawing upon moral foundations theory in relation to driving charitable giving, and the moderating role of recognition in this regard.

Design/methodology/approach

Two experimental studies were conducted to examine the interactive effect of organizational positioning emphasizing a binding (vs an individualizing) moral foundation and donation recognition on charitable giving. Study 1 was conducted in Indonesia, while Study 2 was conducted in the US.

Findings

This research demonstrates that individuals will give higher donations to an organization with a binding (vs an individualizing) moral foundation that provides donation recognition. Further, this effect is mediated by social identity signaling.

Originality/value

The findings of this research provide a novel perspective on how organizational positioning can influence whether donation recognition increases charitable giving. Moreover, the findings offer managerial implications to non-profit organizations developing effective charitable campaigns in terms of combining appropriate organizational positioning and donation recognition strategies.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to analyse a new model to assess the sustainable behaviours, sustainable attitudes and sustainable knowledge on sport practitioners.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper employs a scale of 44 items divided into three different dimensions to analyse the knowledge, attitudes and behaviours towards sustainable development on 227 sport participants.

Findings

Through this study the authors have been able to obtain a reliable scale that allows us to analyse and the knowledge, attitudes and sustainable behaviours of physical and sports education practitioners.

Research limitations/implications

Both psychometric properties of the initial scale and the differences between studies contexts may affect the results of the present analysis. Therefore, new studies are needed in order to analyse how sport physical activities influence sustainable behaviours among physical activity and sport practitioners.

Practical implications

In this work the authors present a valid and reliable tool for the study of the environmental knowledge, attitudes and behaviours of physical activity and sport practitioners.

Originality/value

Regarding the importance of sport in relation to sustainable development, this work is the first to adapt a scale to the context of practitioners of physical activity and sport in order to improve the understanding of how physical activity and sport affect sustainable behaviours, serving as a starting point for future research in sustainable development sports field.
