Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the characteristics and performance of the meat supply chain by focusing on developing a model for measuring the meat supply chain's performance in the province of Isfahan, Iran.
Design/methodology/approach
Using a combination of literature review, Delphi approach and case study research, the paper examines part of the meat supply chain that consists of three industrial slaughterhouses, two cold rooms, three factories and more than 20 supermarkets and it then presents a framework to assess the performance of the industry in the region.
Findings
The methodology suggests indices for strategic and tactical levels in a meat industry as a case study. The proposed framework for the performance measurement of the chain was applied in strategic and tactical levels in which the ranking of indices are also among the achievements of this study. Results show that there are six main criteria required to measure the meat industry's performance.
Originality/value
Literature shows no record of an integrated measurement system for the entire food supply chain where indicators are combined into a performance function to assess the overall performance of the industry.

Abstract
Contributing to the literature on movement structure in authoritarian regimes, this analysis focuses on the structure of two Iranian movements. We use a multi-method approach to analyze the organization of the student and women’s movements in Iran between 1997 and 2008. From 1997 to 2004, a reform government opened political opportunities. The period between 2005 and 2008 was characterized by increased repression. The student movement was organized during the first period as a hybrid composed of several networks linked in a federal structure. As the political context changed, the movement became less centralized. Its strategy shifted from one based in alliance with governing reformers to coalition building outside of the regime. In contrast, the women’s movement was organized as a densely linked web of noncentralized campaigns. The women’s movement overcame divisions as political opportunities closed in the mid-2000s and built a grassroots strategy during the latter part of the decade.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper debates the Islamic perspective on the work ethics employed in an organization. It aims to discuss the issues of assumptions involving the Islamic Work Ethic (IWE). Therefore, this paper addresses the gap in the management literature and suggests a group of dimensions from fundamentals of Islam.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper reviews the foundations of IWE and investigates various empirical studies conducted in several countries. Then, briefly presents a short historical and conceptual review of the work ethic construct, suggests a general conceptual definition of work ethic, and offers multidimensional model including a series of constructs which can enable researchers to evaluate and measure work ethic in Islamic societies.
Findings
The study reveals that there is an evidence of ethics formulation depending on Islamic literature which constructs Islamic values for work. This paper proposes new perspective about the right ethics of work in Islam. Further, multidimensional model including 18 dimensions has been developed to evaluate work ethic in Islamic societies.
Research limitations/implications
This field needs to reconsider the constructs of IWEs where it is far from reflecting Islamic theory. This paper presents new dimensions which can be utilized to enrich this area.
Originality/value
This is one of the few attempts to suggest the appropriate constructs of IWE in the management literature. It provides 18 elements responsible and have the promise to strengthen individual transparency and morally which eventually enhance economic progress in Islamic world.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to address the low thermal conductivity and suboptimal performance of phase change materials (PCMs) by examining the impact of geometric adjustments on their melting rate.
Design/methodology/approach
A two-dimensional numerical model was created to investigate the effect of different positions and angular inclinations of the inside heating surface (IHS) on the melting rate of PCM within a latent heat thermal energy storage system. The model analysed the IHS at the centre and below the centre at various positions (10, 20, 30 and 40 mm) and inclinations (0°, 15°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 75° and 90°).
Findings
The 90° inclination (vertical) significantly reduced the melting time by 75% compared to the 0° inclination (horizontal). The best melting performance was recorded with the IHS positioned 20 mm below the centre. At a 30° inclination, the maximum reduction in melting time was observed with the IHS at 30 and 40 mm placements. The system demonstrated the highest energy storage capacity of 307.72 kJ/kg at a 75° inclination with the IHS positioned 10 mm laterally, and the lowest capacity of 255.02 kJ/kg at a 0° inclination with the IHS at a 30 mm lateral position.
Practical implications
To address the deficient part of PCM like low thermal conductivity and below level performance characteristics, a structural (geometrical) adjustment was developed to study the effect on the melting rate of PCM without any cost addition. Using the computational model, an optimised thermal energy storage system is developed that can play a pivotal role in improving the applicability of thermal energy storage systems.
Originality/value
This research is novel in simultaneously investigating the numerical characteristics of PCM melting behaviour with different lateral positions and angular orientations of the IHS. A unique design modification was introduced, using a 2D numerical model and simulations to explore the effects under isothermal conditions.
