Abstract
Purpose
Healthcare environments are highly complex and full of variation and inefficiency. However, variation and inefficiency can be measured and improved, providing better quality care at a lower cost. This study aims to report the application of Lean Six Sigma (LSS) in a haematology laboratory in a university hospital in Egypt.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors used case study research. Applying the define, measure, analyse, improve and control phases of the DMAIC methodology together with lean tools, the problem was identified, the process mapped, the causes analysed and improvements implemented.
Findings
Results show that LSS can be successfully implemented in challenging public sector healthcare settings. Management commitment, generating and implementing ideas from frontline staff, using a variety of quality tools and previous LSS training were all key to success. This is evidence that the LSS methodology is adaptable to any process, people or place.
Originality/value
There are no publications on LSS implementation in health care in Egypt. This study demonstrates the successful use of LSS in a university hospital (public sector) in a developing country, sharing insight into the facilitators and barriers in a real context with others in the healthcare field.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to explore the variables that affect Muslim consumers’ perception towards tax rebate over zakat on income in Malaysia.
Design/methodology/approach
A close-ended structured questionnaire was developed and a total number of 236 valid responses were collected through online survey from the Muslims residing in Malaysia.
Findings
This study found that halal-haram aspect of Islamic Shariah, legal consciousness and religiosity of Muslim consumers are positive significant factors for growing perceptions towards tax rebate over zakat on income in Malaysia.
Research limitations/implications
This study will definitely play an important leading role for the policy-makers and academicians in understanding the perceptions of Muslim consumers.
Practical implications
This study can assist zakat and tax authorities in Malaysia for taking corrective actions to adapt or improve the current policy on the basis of its Muslim consumers’ perception.
Social implications
The findings of this study can reduce the gap of understanding among Muslims in the society by letting other people’s perceptions towards tax rebate through zakat system in Malaysia.
Originality/value
As there are not enough studies in this area, this study will definitely play an important leading role for the countries or policy-makers or concerned zakat or tax institutions all over the world in capitalizing the practices which is highly and positively perceived by the Muslim consumers in Malaysia.

Abstract
Purpose
The capacity of organizations to adapt swiftly and implement innovative approaches has ignited discussions about which human resource management (HRM) practices can foster creativity and innovative work behavior (IWB) among employees. Research suggests that IWB thrives in an environment where HRM acts as the architect, influencer and developer. However, our understanding of the specific HRM practices that promote innovative work behaviors remains limited. Existing studies offer scattered and occasionally conflicting insights, particularly concerning measurements and theoretical frameworks that could enable greater generalizability. Consequently, a comprehensive review of the relationships between HRM, innovation and IWB could provide clearer evidence about how HRM impacts innovation. This research presents a bibliometric analysis of research on the relationship between HRM and IWB. The purpose of this analysis is to provide an in-depth overview of the current state and future prospects of HRM and IWB by examining past and current research trends and predict future research directions.
Design/methodology/approach
The study used a bibliometric approach to collect 280 journal articles from the Web of Science database. The study identifies the most influential publications, outlines the knowledge structure and forecasts future trends using co-citation and co-word analysis.
Findings
The results of the co-citation and co-word analysis revealed the existence of four clusters. While acknowledging some limitations, this review sheds light on the expanding field of HRM and IWB research.
Practical implications
The study provides a comprehensive understanding of HRM and IWB as well as insights into future advancements in the field.
Originality/value
This is the first study to use bibliometric analysis based on the Web of Science (WOS) database to conduct a quantitative evaluation of the HRM practice and IWB literature.
