Abstract
Propeller breakdown is not a universally severe problem. It varies in intensity on different classes of vessels and in different localities. There is still much to learn about the effect of locality, but the expectations of trouble in differing types of vessels can be set out on broad lines.

TRAWLERS AND CORROSION. Some interesting economic sidelights on the benefits of cathodic protection of shipping were recently given by Mr. M. G. Duff, a pioneer in this field, who told the Grimsby Institute of Engineers and Shipbuilders that a simple device to control corrosion can cut the fuel bill of a 115‐ft. trawler by £500 p.a. and effect a further saving of at least £220 p.a. in maintenance and repairs.

Abstract
This article deals with the cathodic protection requirements of small vessels—coastal shipping, fishing vessels, tugs, lighters and yachts. The story of the development of suitable techniques for such craft is told and it is shown that cathodic protection is not the prerogative of big ships, nor even of steel ships; it has something to offer to every class of ship or boat from the largest down to the very smallest, whether built of steel or wood.

EVERYONE interested in the British library movement will learn with sorrow and regret that one of its greatest friends and strongest champions has passed away, in the person of Thomas Greenwood, the kind‐hearted and generous advocate of libraries, who won the respect and regard of every English libiarian. From one of his own periodicals the following particulars are abstracted:—

Abstract
The following admirable letter from MR. G. BOOTH‐HEMING, the Ex‐Mayor of the City of Westminster, has been published by the Daily Telegraph. The eminently sane views and the timely warnings it contains should give pause to the foolish advocates of false “economy” and the hysterical preachers of indiscriminate “retrenchment”:—

TESTING ELECTRO‐DEPOSITED COATINGS. The necessity for accurate correlation between laboratory testing and actual service trials of electro‐deposited coatings to determine their corrosion‐resistant properties was the theme of the meeting held at the headquarters of the Society of Chemical Industry on October 21 last. The meeting was a joint meeting of the Corrosion Group of the Society with the London Section of the Institute of Metal Finishing, under the chairmanship of Dr. S. G. Clarke. The two speakers were Dr. J. Edwards of the British Non‐Ferrous Metals Research Association and J. H. Hooper of Humber Ltd.

Abstract
In previous articles the chemical composition of the infant's food has been discussed from a theoretical standpoint. Before dealing with the actual preparations at present on the market, it is necessary to refer briefly to certain other practical considerations which, apart from chemical composition and from any question of digestibility, greatly influence the value of these products, and which may be discussed under the following headings:—(1) Bulk or compactness, (2) Keeping power, (3) Ease and rapidity of preparation for use, (4) Cost.
