Abstract
The people of South Asia are deeply religious and all facets of their lives including their endeavours to achieve material advancement are affected greatly by religious beliefs and values. In what ways, and to what extent, non‐economic factors, specifically religious beliefs, affect economic behaviour in any society, is a matter of considerable controversy among economists. The theorists question the advisability of applying non‐economic factors to economic phenomena which presuppose “specialisation”, division of labour and have narrow scope of study. They contend that non‐economic factors lack objectivity for want of rigorous analysis and quantification. Also, cultural factors change but slowly, and thus, in the analysis of the short‐run process of change, these non‐economic factors do not have much relevance. Karl Marx contended that the social and cultural phases of human evolution are the consequence rather than the causes of economic factors. This atomistic conception of social process, is, however, criticised by some social scientists like Schumpeter. They maintain that “economic man” is a myth and that the unity of social life and its inseparable connection with various elements preclude any dissection of concrete reality into political, social, cultural, ethical and economic parts. The indian Planning Commission is cognisant of the inter‐relation between non‐economic factors and economic development. The Planning Commission suggests that:

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to explore the mist-air film cooling performance on a three-dimensional (3-D) flat plate. In mist-air film cooling technique, a small amount of water droplets is injected along with the coolant air. The objective is to study the influence of shape of the coolant hole and operating conditions on the cooling effectiveness.
Design/methodology/approach
In this study, 3-D numerical simulations are performed. To simulate the mist-air film cooling over a flat plate, air is considered as a continuous phase and mist is considered as a discrete phase. Turbulence in the flow is accounted using Reynolds averaged Navier–Stokes equation and is modeled using k–e model with enhanced wall treatment.
Findings
The results of this study show that, for cylindrical coolant hole, coolant with 5% mist concentration is not effective for mainstream temperatures above 600 K, whereas for fan-shaped hole, even 2% mist concentration has shown significant impact on cooling effectiveness for temperatures up to 1,000 K. For given mist-air coolant flow conditions, different trend in effectiveness is observed for cylindrical and fan-shaped coolant hole with respect to main stream temperature.
Research limitations/implications
This study is limited to a flat plate geometry with single coolant hole.
Practical implications
The motivation of this study comes from the requirement of high efficiency cooling techniques for cooling of gas turbine blades. This study aims to study the performance of mist-air film cooling at different geometric and operating conditions.
Originality/value
The originality of this study lies in studying the effect of parameters such as mist concentration, droplet size and blowing ratio on cooling performance, particularly at high mainstream temperatures. In addition, a systematic performance comparison is presented between the cylindrical and fan-shaped cooling hole geometries.

Peasant political order is functionally related to the ties of kinship. Kinship ties are of crucial importance to its effective functioning. Peasant communities in Bangladesh deserve mention. Most peasant communities here are by and large undeveloped hinterland. We may convey the status of ‘virgin village’ to those peasant communities yet visited by any survey team or any voluntary organisations involved in the process of rural modernisation. Here socio‐economic and political activities are organised around kinship nexus. Institutional foundation of kinship is a pervasive phenomenon. Viewed in this perspective kinship is an institution encompassing all aspects of life. The peasants have most intimate relationship with this institution marked by affection, reciprocity, solidarity and co‐operation.

Caste is the basic structural feature of Hindu society; all social scientists are agreed on this. Since Hinduism is generally recognised to be as much a social system as a religion, its social framework embodying caste rituals has governed the lives of the majority of Indians for hundreds of years. Having deep roots in tradition and enjoying sanction in all religious literature belonging to the pre‐British era, caste has been the dominant principle of social organisation since ancient times. In fact, barring the recent past, Hinduism has always been identified in the minds of most Indians with caste observances. Writes R.C. Zaehner: “…until a century or so ago the acceptance of the caste system was considered by the orthodox to be the sole effective criterion of whether one was or was not a Hindu. Purpose
Organization studies in India has largely remained insular to the writings of Indian scholars in parent disciplines such as sociology. The lack of engagement with Indian sociological works has promoted excessive dependence on Euro–American theory. It has further hindered the development of indigenous theories. This paper aims to argue that engagement with the writings of classical and contemporary Indian sociologists can resolve this issue.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper delineates the contribution of Indian sociologists to organizational or sociological institutionalism. It focuses specifically on the contribution of these scholars concerning two subtopics: conceptualization of institutions and fields, and the dynamics of institutional change.
Findings
The paper draws upon the work of Indian sociologists to develop a concept of ecological field. It further delves into the dynamic interplay between ideas and institutional change. More precisely, it draws attention to the role of actors and mechanisms that produce ideas.
Originality/value
Future studies can leverage the contribution of Indian scholars to explicate, elaborate and develop creative theories of organizational institutionalism. Such cumulative efforts can help in building an Indian tradition of organizational institutionalism.

Abstract
This article presents a problem situation for study of the vexed eco‐bureau‐political question of job reservation in public administration, public sector and government‐aided educational institutions. Such reservation in preference to the Union of India was augmented from 22.5 to 49.5 per cent in 1993. This was aimed at achieving “equity” causing distributive growth of the economy but growth itself may be thwarted by “efficiency” losses in public management. It could be that under a less equitous regime there is more growth so that the targeted protected groups end up with larger “entitlement”. The present dispensation gives larger “empowerment” in addition to extension of statutory representation to the “disadvantaged” and “deprived” groups in local‐level government. The article concludes with a review of the literature and some facts and data on the situation and basic conceptualization to clear the deck for research in the area which has been negligible and situate some hypotheses which may be demolished or proved.

Current paper is an overview of qualitative research. It starts with discussing meaning of research and links it with a framework of experiential learning. Complexity of socio-political environment can be captured with methodologies appropriate to capture dynamism and intricacy of human life. Qualitative research is a process of capturing lived-in experiences of individuals, groups, and society. It is an umbrella concept which involves variety of methods of data collection such as interviews, observations, focused group discussions, projective tools, drawings, narratives, biographies, videos, and anything which helps to understand world of participants. Researcher is an instrument of data collection and plays a crucial role in collecting data. Main steps and key characteristics of qualitative research are covered in this paper.
