Abstract

An implicit type algorithm for the integration of hypoelastic constitutive equations is proposed for large strain and large rotation conditions. Constitutive relations are derived in a deformation‐neutralized form. This provides the basis for integration in time resulting in an incremental tensor relation. Proposed algorithm can be considered as a generalization of the closest‐point‐projection method in the sense that the projection property applies to a ‘midstep’ rather than the final stress state. Hill's yield criterion under plane stress conditions suitable for metal‐forming applications is used in presented benchmark problems. Numerical results are discussed illustrating the accuracy of the algorithm for different values of the midstep parameter.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to develop strategies for potential environmental impacts as a result of institutional arrangement and development of oil palm downstream industry both regionally and nationally.

Design/methodology/approach

The research location is in the areas potential for oil palm plantation development, either by plasma through BUMN and BUMS or self-supporting by the society. The research location will be divided into two parts, namely, the land area and the coastal area. The Riau land areas are Regency of Kampar, Rokan Hulu, and Kuantan Singingi, while Riau coastal areas are Regency of Pelalawan, Siak, Bengkalis, Indragiri Hilir, Indragiri Hulu and Rokan Hilir. Both research areas have different productivity due to the different soil fertility levels. The sustainability level of oil palm plantation from the socio-economic and environmental aspects is analyzed using the multi-dimensional scaling approach modified into Rapid Appraisal-Index Sustainability of Palm Oil Management.

Findings

In Riau Province, the development of oil palm is quite rapid. This is reasonable for several reasons which include the following supporting factors: the geographical condition of the Riau region is very supportive; the high demand for palm oil derivative products; the existence of market guarantee for oil palm farmers; the higher income oil palm generates than other plantation crops; and the relatively flat area. Most of the problems faced by oil palm farmers are the use of less good seeds, the length of the fruit laying at the location of the plantation, the inadequate production road, the relatively far distance to palm oil mill (POM) (National Agency of Drug and Food Control), the tendency of determining the unilateral revenue of the POM, the collectively measurement of revenue and the general revenue information. The development of oil palm plantations has created an entrepreneurial capability for farmers who are able to capture business opportunities in the agricultural sector, especially the plantation sub-sector.

Originality/value

The originality of this paper shows the comprehensively control strategy, potential of environmental impact and palm oil plantation. The method used for data collection was rapid rural appraisal method because accurate information is needed in a limited time as it relates to decisions related to village development that must be taken immediately. The study area was conducted in Riau Province because Riau Province is one of the biggest palm oil producers in Indonesia. The study sites will be divided into two, namely, the land area and the coastal area.

Abstract

This paper gives a review of the finite element techniques (FE) applied in the area of material processing. The latest trends in metal forming, non‐metal forming and powder metallurgy are briefly discussed. The range of applications of finite elements on the subjects is extremely wide and cannot be presented in a single paper; therefore the aim of the paper is to give FE users only an encyclopaedic view of the different possibilities that exist today in the various fields mentioned above. An appendix included at the end of the paper presents a bibliography on finite element applications in material processing for the last five years, and more than 1100 references are listed.

Abstract

Purpose

Quality improvement is imperative for healthcare organisations. Despite the importance of the topic, many efforts have been wasted on failed improvement programs. Various studies have tried to identify the failure factors in improvement programs, but the divergences in the results hamper this research field’s evolution. This study reviews scientific activity from 2000 to 2019 on failure factors in Healthcare Quality Improvement Programs (HCQIP) to help academics and managers understand the field’s evolution better. This research intends to answer four questions on failure factors in HCQIP: Who are the most active authors in this field?; Which journals have been used as diffusion channels?; What are the themes addressed the most in this field?; and What are the themes considered to be emerging?

Design/methodology/approach

The authors conducted a bibliometric-based literature review on a sample of 5,137 articles, and 104 studies were included in this review, covering a longitudinal analysis in two periods (P1: 2000–2010 and P2: 2011–2019). Performance analysis, citation, co-citation, co-words analysis and network mapping identified the authors in this scientific field, the journals, the number of articles, along with the current and emerging themes that reveal the latent structure of the factors associated with failures in HCQIP.

Findings

The number of articles in P2 (83 studies) is almost four times higher than in P1 (21 studies). The results reveal a dynamic field attracting more authors since 2013, expanding from 5 to 42 journals that publish on the topic. Furthermore, research has evolved from comprehensive manufacturing programs to more theory-based and contextualised health care. In this sense, the recent literature (P2) suggests that failure factors related to quality improvement programs can be minimised if these initiatives align with the human centrality paradigm.

Practical implications

Analysing the evolution of failure factors in HCQIP helps redesign research and management for better quality health outcomes. Knowledge of the scientific community trajectory over nearly 20 years enables better planning from the patient's perspective and contributes to reducing failures in quality programs.

Originality/value

This study contributes to developing the field of failure factors in HCQIP by providing researchers and managers with an evolutionary, systematic and pioneering view of the theme.

Abstract

Purpose

Reliable operation of natural gas pipeline (NGP) is a critical factor in Iran’s economic development. NGP projects go through different ecosystems and considerably affect the environment. Environmental analysis is an essential step toward sustainable development. Tackling the challenges, this paper aims to develop a framework to systematically assess the environmental impact of NGPs.

Design/methodology/approach

This study proposes a comprehensive framework for environmental impact analysis of NGPs using Measuring Attractiveness by a Categorical-Based Evaluation Technique (MACBETH). MACBETH protocol is used to calculate the overall environmental scores of projects.

Findings

The results indicate that the impact of implementing NGPs on protected areas is of the highest priority, while the impact on vegetation covers is of least priority for assessing the environmental impact of NGP.

Practical implications

The practicality and validity of the model in the case of three candidate routes for the Polkale-Neizar project in Iran are examined. According to the results, the third alternative is selected based on its non-interference in protected areas and less environmental impacts. The proposed model can be modified and applied to perform environment appraisal of other linear projects such as energy, road and railway networks.

Originality/value

This model addresses a range of environmental impacts of implementing NGPs at two levels, with the second level being non-additive. The novelty of this study translates into considering the qualitative and quantitative features of each evaluation criterion applied to linear projects simultaneously using a multi-criteria value measurement.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to survey existing information security policy (ISP) management research to scrutinise the extent to which manual and computerised support has been suggested, and the way in which the suggested support has been brought about.

Design/methodology/approach

The results are based on a literature review of ISP management research published between 1990 and 2017.

Findings

Existing research has focused mostly on manual support for managing ISPs. Very few papers have considered computerised support. The entire complexity of the ISP management process has received little attention. Existing research has not focused much on the interaction between the different ISP management phases. Few research methods have been used extensively and intervention-oriented research is rare.

Research limitations/implications

Future research should to a larger extent address the interaction between the ISP management phases, apply more intervention research to develop computerised support for ISP management, investigate to what extent computerised support can enhance integration of ISP management phases and reduce the complexity of such a management process.

Practical implications

The limited focus on computerised support for ISP management affects the kind of advice and artefacts the research community can offer to practitioners.

Originality/value

Today, there are no literature reviews on to what extent computerised support the ISP management process. Findings on how the complexity of ISP management has been addressed and the research methods used extend beyond the existing knowledge base, allowing for a critical discussion of existing research and future research needs.

Abstract

The effect of bending is investigated through the comparison of the membrane analysis and the shell analysis for stretching and deep drawing. An incremental formulation incorporating the effect of shape change and anisotropy is used for the analysis of elastic‐plastic non‐steady large deformation. The deformation during a step is considered using the natural convected coordinate system. Stretching of a square blank with a hemispherical punch and deep drawing of a cyclindrical cup is analysed and the corresponding experiments are carried out. The computational results are compared with the experiments. In stretching, the comparison has shown that both the membrane analysis and the shell analysis are in good agreement with the experiment for punch load and strain distribution. In deep drawing, the computed loads of both the membrane analysis and the shell analysis are generally in good agreement with the experiment. The computed thickness strain of the membrane analysis, however, shows a wide difference with the experiment. In the shell analysis, the thickness strain shows good agreement with the experiment. It has been shown that the membrane approach shows a limitation for the deep drawing process in which the effect of bending is not negligible and more exact informations on the thickness strain distribution are required.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to examine the current status and trends in circular economy (CE) research. The state of CE research is assessed by critically examining the field by considering diverse dimensions.

Design/methodology/approach

The systematic literature review (SLR) of CE research articles is analyzed using the content analysis methodology. The articles are selected from the Scopus database containing the keyword “Circular economy” in its title, abstract and keywords. In total, 587 research articles published on CE in various reputed peer-reviewed journals over 15 years (2005–2020) are selected for review.

Findings

The research in the domain of CE is in the beginning phase. It has numerous quantitative modeling opportunities, value creation and propositions aspects and application in real-life case problems. One of the significant findings is that the CE research field is more inclined toward the implication of the empirical qualitative research. The identified research gaps and future opportunities could provide further direction to broaden CE research.

Research limitations/implications

The review focuses on publications published in peer-reviewed journals in the English language only. It restricts the recognition of relevant articles published in conference proceedings and languages other than English.

Originality/value

This research study will provide a deeper understanding of CE research's existing status and highlights the research trends, gap and its applicability in real-life case problems and setting up future research directions in the CE field.
