Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to study entropy generation in magneto-Jeffrey nanomaterial flow by impermeable moving boundary. Adopted nanomaterial model accounts Brownian and thermophoretic diffusions. Modeling is arranged for thermal radiation, nonlinear convection and viscous dissipation. In addition, the concept of Arrhenius activation energy associated with chemical reaction are introduced for description of mass transportation.

Design/methodology/approach

Homotopy algorithms are used to compute the system of ordinary differential equations.

Findings

The afore-stated analysis clearly notes that simultaneous aspects of activation energy and entropy generation are not yet investigated. Therefore, the intention here is to consider such effects to formulate and investigate the magneto-Jeffrey nanoliquid flow by impermeable moving surface.

Originality/value

As per the authors’ knowledge, no such work has yet been published in the literature.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to investigate the impact of ethical leadership on employees’ pro-social rule-breaking behavior, focusing on the mechanisms of psychological empowerment and the moderating influence of ethical climate within the organization.

Design/methodology/approach

Conducting a survey across three waves, the research involves 515 nursing staff in various Pakistani hospitals. Partial least squares structural equation modeling is used for data analysis.

Findings

Contrary to expectations, this study uncovers a positive association between ethical leadership and employees’ pro-social rule-breaking behavior. The relationship is mediated by psychological empowerment, and ethical climate is found to moderate this association.

Research limitations/implications

While challenging traditional assumptions, this study acknowledges limitations related to sector focus and employee perspectives. Future studies are encouraged to explore multiple sectors and incorporate management perceptions for wider generalizability.

Practical implications

The results highlight the need for organizations to consider the unintended consequences of ethical leadership. Managers are advised to be mindful of employees’ psychological dynamics and the organizational environment to navigate the complex interplay between ethical leadership and pro-social rule-breaking.

Social implications

Understanding the paradoxical influence of ethical leadership extends beyond organizations to broader societal implications. The research encourages organizations to adopt strategies aligning ethical leadership with desired employee behaviors.

Originality/value

This study challenges established perceptions of ethical leadership, prompting a reevaluation of its universally perceived positive nature. It emphasizes the paradoxical influence of ethical leadership on organizational dynamics. The mediating role of psychological empowerment and the moderating effect of ethical climate contribute to the understanding of the relationship between ethical leadership and employees’ pro-social rule-breaking.

Abstract

Purpose

The novel mechanical, chemical and thermodynamics characteristics of both single- and multi-wall carbon nanotubes (CNTs) make them a subject of much attention for the scientists and engineers from all domains. Fluid flows subject to CNTs are significant in biomedical engineering, energy storage systems, domestic and industrial cooling, automobile industries and solar energy collectors, etc. Keeping such effectiveness of CNTs in mind, this paper aims to examine peristaltic flow subject to CNTs in an asymmetric tapered channel. Both single and multiple walls CNTs are considered. The viscosity of nanomaterial depends on nanoparticles volume fraction and temperature. Total entropy rate through second law of thermodynamics is calculated. Heat source/sink and nonlinear heat flux are accounted.

Design/methodology/approach

The complicated flow expressions are simplified through lubrication approach. The velocity, temperature and entropy expressions are numerically solved by the built-in-shooting method.

Findings

The solutions for entropy generation, temperature and velocity are plotted, and the influences of pertinent variables are examined. The authors noticed that entropy generation is an increasing function of the Brinkman number.

Originality/value

The originality of this work is to communicate peristaltic CNTs-based nanomaterial peristaltic flow of viscous fluid in an asymmetric channel. No such consideration is yet published in the literature.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to examine the three-dimensional (3D) flow of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) due to bidirectional nonlinearly stretching surface by considering porous medium. Characteristics of both single-walled CNTs and multi-walled CNTs are discussed by considering Xue model. Darcy–Forchheimer model is used for flow saturating porous medium.

Design/methodology/approach

Optimal homotopy analysis method is used for the development of series solutions.

Findings

The authors deal with 3D Darcy–Forchheimer flow of CNTs over a nonlinearly stretching surface. Heat transport mechanism is discussed in the presence of Xue model. The homogeneous and heterogeneous effects are also accounted. The mathematical modeling is computed using boundary-layer approximations.

Originality/value

No such work has been done yet in the literature.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to unfurl the mediating role of facets of voice behavior. The study also unearths the relationship between servant leadership and voice behavior.

Design/methodology/approach

The data were collected from follower manager dyads in two waves of data collection initiated after the completion of the preceding wave. The final sample size obtained was 312.

Findings

The study found servant leadership to be related to innovative work behavior and facets of voice behavior. The study also found promotive voice behavior and preventive voice behavior to be related to the innovative work behavior of employees. The study found promotive voice behavior and prohibitive voice behavior work as parallel mediators linking servant leadership to the innovative work behavior of employees.

Originality/value

To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is the first to unearth mediation linking servant leadership to innovative work behavior through both facets of voice behavior.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the Sutterby fluid flow by a rotating disk with homogeneous-heterogeneous reactions. Inspection of heat transfer is through Cattaneo–Christov model. Stratification effect is also considered.

Design/methodology/approach

Nonlinear equations are solved by the homotopy technique.

Findings

Sutterby fluid flow by rotating disk is not considered yet. Here the authors intend to analyze it with Cattaneo–Christov heat flux and homogeneous-heterogeneous reactions. Thermal stratification is also taken into consideration.

Originality/value

No such work is yet done in the literature.

Abstract

Purpose

Blockchain technology is one of the major contributors to supply chain sustainability because of its inherent features. However, its adoption rate is relatively low due to reasons such as the diverse barriers impeding blockchain adoption. The purpose of this study is to identify blockchain adoption barriers in sustainable supply chain and uncovers their interrelationships.

Design/methodology/approach

A three-phase framework that combines machine learning (ML) classifiers, BORUTA feature selection algorithm, and Grey-DEMATEL method. From the literature review, 26 potential barriers were identified and evaluated through the performance of ML models with accuracy and f-score.

Findings

The findings reveal that feature selection algorithm detected 15 prominent barriers, and random forest (RF) classifier performed with the highest accuracy and f-score. Moreover, the performance of the RF increased by 2.38% accuracy and 2.19% f-score after removing irrelevant barriers, confirming the validity of feature selection algorithm. An RF classifier ranked the prominent barriers and according to ranking, financial constraints, immaturity, security, knowledge and expertise, and cultural differences resided at the top of the list. Furthermore, a Grey-DEMATEL method is employed to expose interrelationships between prominent barriers and to provide an overview of the cause-and-effect group.

Practical implications

The outcome of this study can help industry practitioners develop new strategies and plans for blockchain adoption in sustainable supply chains.

Originality/value

The research on the adoption of blockchain technology in sustainable supply chains is still evolving. This study contributes to the ongoing debate by exploring how practitioners and decision-makers adopt blockchain technology, developing strategies and plans in the process.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to examine outcome of activation energy in rotating flow of an Oldroyd-B nano liquid.

Design/methodology/approach

Flow is generated due to stretched surface. Binary chemical reaction is studied. Brownian and thermophoresis effects are considered. The system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations is derived. Convergent series solutions are obtained by homotopy analysis method. The resulting expressions for velocities, temperature and concentration are computed for different embedded parameters.

Findings

It is found that velocities f′ and g  have decreasing effect when rotation parameter is enhanced. Brownian and thermophoresis are increasing functions of temperature and concentration. The physical quantities are sketched and discussed numerically. Concentration and temperature fields show decreasing behavior via Brownian and thermophoresis parameters.

Originality/value

Authors investigate the Rotating flow of Oldroyd-B nano fluid with chemical reactions. This work is not done yet in literature.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to explore the flow of nanofluid over bi-directional stretching sheet in the presence of magnetic field and linear thermal radiation.

Design/methodology/approach

In this study, water is taken as a base fluid, and copper is diluted in the base fluid. Further, four different shapes of nanoparticles are considered for the analysis. The governing nonlinear partial differential equations are transformed into the system of ordinary differential equations after using the feasible similarity transformations. Solution of the model is then performed by means of Runge–Kutta scheme.

Findings

Influence of the emerging dimensionless parameters on velocity, temperature, skin friction coefficient and local rate of heat transfer are studied with the help of graphs.

Originality/value

The study is presented in this paper is original and has not been submitted to any other journal for the publication purpose. The contents are original, and proper references have been provided wherever applicable.

Abstract

This chapter examines corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices by Islamic banks (IBs) in Bangladesh and to identify how these initiatives impact on citizens in a positive and a productive manner without compromising the ethics and values. CSR data and the information of seven IBs in Bangladesh were considered to analyse sector-wise CSR expenditures, as well as in the specialised areas focussing on religious values, from 2007–2010. Results indicate that most of the IBs are committed to CSR practice. This may motivate conventional banks to spend more on CSR to compete with their counterparts. Consequently, the total inflow of resources from the banks towards social wellbeing may also increase. The study finds that IBs share some common areas in conducting CSR activities similar to their conventional counterparts. IBs are also engaged in some additional areas due to their mandatory compliance with the shari’ah. The study finds a significantly increasing trend of CSR expenditures and engagements by IBs.
