Abstract
THERE are many aeronautical engineers whose specialised knowledge does not include that of airscrews, and who nevertheless have occasion to make preliminary estimates in which some understanding of the properties of an airscrew is desirable. To these the most important quantities are frequently the diameter and efficiency appropriate to a given set of working conditions, and the static thrust.

Abstract
Purpose
In Argentina, soy and maize represent 28% of the total country exports, affecting the balance of payments, international reserves accumulation and sovereign credit risk. In the past 10 years, three extreme and moderate droughts have affected the agricultural areas, causing significant losses in soybean and maize production. This study aims to estimate the economic impact generated by different drought levels for soy and maize production areas through a financial perspective that allows the estimation of the cash flow and income losses.
Design/methodology/approach
By analyzing the extreme deviations in yields during dry periods, the losses generated by droughts were valuated among 183 departments nationwide.
Findings
The aggregated results indicated a total loss of US$24.170m, representing 57.45% of the international reserves of the Argentinean Central Bank in 2021. This estimate shows the magnitude of the climate impact on the Argentinean economy, indicating that severe droughts have macroeconomic impacts, with the external sector as the main transmission channel in an economy with historic restrictions on the balance of payments, international reserve accumulation and sovereign credit risk.
Originality/value
This study analyses the macroeconomic impact of drought on Argentinean soybean and maize production.

Abstract
ANY system based on a standard unit capable of being divided by tenths or hundredths for any lesser value enormously simplifies calculations and through a saving of time and labour reduces costs. It is therefore a matter for satisfaction that this country, laggard as usual, will within a matter of days fall into step with other industrial nations. Indeed, as the official guide to the decimal system points out, almost every country in the world uses it. So Britain at last joins the great majority.

Abstract
THE correct functioning of many pieces of apparatus depends not only upon dimensional accuracy, but also upon the surface finish of contacting surfaces. Practically all engineering establishments have available a microscope suitable for magnifications up to at least 200 diameters and, in any event, such microscopes, even under present circumstances, are in reasonably good supply. By means of such a microscope and readily available accessories, it is possible accurately to measure and control certain types of finish by a method that has recently been perfected. At the outset it will be as well clearly to define the scope of this method. It is only applicable to finely finished convex or flat reflecting surfaces; with increase in scratch depth or roughness the more difficult does it become to interpret the results and, in general, the method is not applicable if the average height of the surface above the mean line exceeds about 20 micro inches.

Abstract
The following are the Definitions and Standards for Jams, Jellies, and the like, as laid down by the United States Department of Agriculture, that is to say the Federal Department, and in force at the present time in matters relating to inter‐state commerce. The Definitions and Standards have been closely followed by the various States in Union:—

Abstract
Purpose
With an emphasis on displaced aggression theory and social exchange theory, this study aims to investigate the harmful effects of exploitative leadership (EL) on employee creativity (EC) through the mediating role of knowledge hiding (KH). Moreover, this study examines the boundary effects of leader–member exchange (LMX) to explore conditions under which KH is more or less likely to occur.
Design/methodology/approach
The study employed time-lagged (i.e. three-wave), multisource (i.e. self-rated and peer-rated) research design to collect data from employees working in Pakistani service sector organizations. The study analyzed 323 responses using SMART PLS (v 3.3.3) to assess the measurement model and the structural model.
Findings
The findings reveal that EL is positively related to KH and negatively related to EC. The results also show partial mediating role of KH in the indirect relationship between EL and EC. Besides, the study also found that LMX moderates the positive relationship between EL and KH, and the negative relationship between EL and EC.
Practical implications
The study divulges interesting findings that subordinates at high-quality LMX relationships (i.e. in-group members) are more susceptible to the harmful effects of supervisory unjust treatment than at low-quality LMX relationships (i.e. out-group members). Thus, occurrence context of KH, i.e. EL should be minimized through appropriate organizational interventions.
Originality/value
This study contributes to the leadership and knowledge management literature by testing a hitherto unexplored moderated mediation model.

Abstract
THE Electronic Computer Exhibition and the B.I.M. conference have provided material for serious contemplation. Sir Harold Gillett, Lord Mayor of London, opening the Exhibition suggested that we are living in the age of the second industrial revolution. There are some who share the Lord Mayor's view and others who take the whole matter in their stride. One thing is certain, we shall be able to do more—and do it more efficiently.

Abstract
In Part 1 the author described the corrosion problem in Israel as it affects buried pipelines, and the measures now in hand to protect the extensive irrigation networks. In Part 2 he now turns to two other problems: that of protecting the growing Israeli fishing fleet and that of protecting domestic water systems.
