Abstract
Purpose
This research investigates how and why firms adopt inclusive diversity activities, identifying the mechanisms behind firms involved in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT)–friendly pursuits. By integrating resource dependence theory, institutional theory and stakeholder theory, the authors argue that a firm's LGBT friendliness is affected by marketing orientation and the external political environment.
Design/methodology/approach
This study uses the Corporate Equality Index, as reported by the Human Rights Campaign, of 460 (1,540 firm-year observations) firms in the United States between 2006 and 2019.
Findings
This study finds a significant, positive relationship between a firm's marketing orientation and LGBT-friendly activities. This research also determines that this relationship is weakened by state-level diversity policies and country-level political uncertainty.
Originality/value
The study results provide unique theoretical and practical implications for the debate on inclusive corporate policy in similar global markets.

Dynamism of digital economy requires innovation in the mobile payment system to provide for the free flow of information to facilitate electronic transactions. However, regulations and standards were introduced at the global and country levels to impose limitations on mobile payment system to protect consumers’ interests. The Malaysian government introduced the Anti-money Laundering, Anti-terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Act 613) (AMLA) to protect the people from being involved in offences both locally and internationally and an unlawful activity carried out physically or by using virtual mechanisms. It is argued in this study that AMLA has hindered the innovation of the digital economic system that is promoted by the government in line with global developments. The research method adopted is personal interview with selected respondents to gather their views on the challenges posed by the restrictions imposed by AMLA that has had the impact of limiting innovations in the mobile payment system sector.

Purpose
Over-limit transportation has the characteristics of large axle load, large number of axles and lateral distribution width. Under the action of over-limit load, the coupling vibration effect of vehicle–bridge is more obvious, and the deformation of bridge components is large. Thus, research and analysis of the vehicle–bridge coupling dynamic response of long-span bridges under over-limit transportation has practical engineering significance.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on the principle of invariable elastic potential energy, this paper derives dynamic model of over-limit transportation n-axis flat vehicle. The numerical simulation method is used to model and calculate a cable-stayed bridge, and the static effect of the cable-stayed bridge and the dynamic response of vehicle–bridge coupling under different parameters are compared and analyzed.
Findings
The focus is on the influence of vehicle load and vehicle velocity parameters on the stress and amplitude of different cables under over-limit transportation, and the corresponding variation law is obtained.
Originality/value
The research on the coupled dynamic response of cable-stayed bridges has attracted the attention of many scholars, but there are relatively few studies on the coupled vibration of out-limit vehicles and bridges. In this paper, based on finite element software, a vehicle–bridge coupling model under bulk transportation is established.

Abstract
Purpose
Pipeline robots are often used in pipeline non-destructive testing. Given the need for long-range in-pipe inspections, this study aims to develop a wireless in-pipe inspection robot for image acquisition.
Design/methodology/approach
In this paper, an in-pipe robot with a new mechanical system is proposed. This system combines a three-arm load-bearing structure with spring sleeves and a half-umbrella diametric change structure, which can ensure the stability of the camera when acquiring images while maintaining the robot’s flexibility. In addition, data were transmitted wirelessly via a system that uses a 433 MHz ultra-high frequency and wireless local-area network–based image transmission system. Software and practical tests were conducted to verify the robot’s design. A preliminary examination of the robot’s cruising range was also conducted.
Findings
The feasibility of the robot was demonstrated using CATIA V5 and MSC ADAMS software. The simulation results showed that the centre of mass of the robot remained in a stable position and that it could function in a simulated pipeline network. In the practical test, the prototype functioned stably, correctly executed remote instructions and transmitted in near real-time its location, battery voltage and the captured images. Additionally, the tests demonstrated that the robot could successfully pass through the bends in a 200-mm-wide pipe at any angle between 0° and 90°. In actual wireless network conditions, the electrical system functioned for 44.7 consecutive minutes.
Originality/value
A wheeled wireless robot adopts a new mechanical system. For inspections of plastic pipelines, the robot can adapt to pipes with diameters of 150–210 mm and has the potential for practical applications.

Abstract
Purpose
To understand the seismic behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) beams confined by corroded stirrups, low-reversed cyclic loading tests were carried out on seven RC beam specimens with different stirrup corrosion levels and stirrup ratios to investigate their mechanical characteristics.
Design/methodology/approach
The failure mode, hysteresis behavior, skeleton curves, ductility, stiffness degradation and energy dissipation behavior of RC specimens are compared and discussed. The experimental results showed that the restraint of concrete provided by corroded stirrups is reduced, which leads to a decline in seismic performance.
Findings
For the specimens with the same ratios of stirrup, as the corrosion level increased, the load-carrying capacity, stiffness, plastic deformation capacity and energy-dissipation capacity dropped significantly. Compared with the uncorroded specimen, the failure modes of specimens with high corrosion level changed from ductile bending failure to brittle failure. For the specimens with the same levels of corrosion, the higher the stirrup ratio was, the stronger the restraint effect of the stirrups on the concrete, and the seismic behavior of the specimens was obviously improved.
Originality/value
In this paper, a total of seven full-size RC beam specimens at joints with different stirrup corrosion levels and stirrup ratios were designed and constructed to explore the influences of corrosion levels and stirrup ratios of stirrups on the seismic performances. The failure modes, strain of reinforcement, hysteretic curves, skeleton curves, stiffness degradation and ductility factor of RC specimens are compared and discussed.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to investigate the dynamic relationship between the investor sentiment and the return of various sectors in the Chinese stock market.
Design/methodology/approach
The wavelet coherence and wavelet phase angle approaches are used to study the lead–lag associations between sentiment index and stock returns in a time–frequency way. The multiscale linear and nonlinear Granger causality tests are performed to explore whether there is a causality between them.
Findings
The empirical results show that during normal period, investor sentiment index has a stronger relationship with stock returns of industrials, consumer discretionary, health care, utilities, real estate and financial sectors. In crisis period, investor sentiment has a significant positive relationship with all industry sectors. In the short term, there is bidirectional causality between investor sentiment and stock returns of all sectors. In the medium and long run, almost all sector stock returns Granger-cause the investors' sentiment index but investor sentiment does not Granger-cause all sectors, which is in contrast to the developed markets.
Practical implications
The interindustry impact of investment sentiment on the stock market can help construct arbitrage portfolio by investors who are interested in Chinese stock market.
Originality/value
This paper focuses on the industry sector differences of investor sentiment impact on the Chinese stock market. As far as the authors know, this is the first paper to explore the time–frequency relationship between sentiment index and industry stock returns in China using the time–frequency method based on wavelet coherence, which considers the heterogeneity of different types of investors' responses to various economic and financial events.

Abstract
This chapter provides a logical extension to the understanding of firm-specific advantages and disadvantages and the enabling role of existing and emerging country-specific advantages relevant to the process of Chinese firm internationalization. Its longitudinal perspective considers the changing objectives and actions of firms that enable them to compensate for disadvantages and create new or strengthen existing competitive advantages. The case study evaluation reveals that the evolution of strategic resources is the key motivator behind the internationalization of Chinese firms. Decisively encouraged by the Chinese government firms with corporate entrepreneurship aspire to alter themselves from home market leaders and regional players into globally competing multi-nationals. This process is made possible via the development of firm-specific advantages and continuous compensation for firm-specific disadvantages. The aspiration for strategic asset acquisition from developed countries combined with cost leadership and independent customer-centred innovation brought about strong firm-specific advantages stimulating the internationalization process of firms. The chapter focuses on the interdependence of country- and firm-specific advantages and disadvantages, thus recognizing the significance of the home country institutional context in Chinese outward foreign direct investment. It has been identified that corporate entrepreneurship is a significant firm-specific advantage for firm internationalization being a major force in gaining, accumulating, utilizing and leveraging resources for transforming firm-specific disadvantages into advantages. We argue that if the relational framework between governmental institutions and firms is more developed, the impact of country-specific advantages on firm-specific advantages is more favourable. This assumes that the government espouses an ideology that is favourable to corporate entrepreneurship.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to obtain the response time history curves of vertical and lateral acceleration in the span of the main beam under different loads through the finite element time-history analysis method, so as to realize the Serviceability Analysis of a Cable-Supported Footbridge Subjected to Human-Induced Loads, taking the long-span cable-supported footbridge over Dongtan River as an example.
Design/methodology/approach
The finite element method is used for analysis of the footbridge.
Findings
It is found that under the condition of low-density pedestrians walking freely, the response of human vertical vibration acceleration and the load conditions of pedestrian overpasses cannot meet the requirements of normal use. Therefore, the vertical acceleration of the footbridge should be designed to reduce vibration. Under these two loading conditions, the lateral acceleration response meets the requirements of normal use.
Originality/value
On the basis of summarizing the research at home and abroad, the analysis of human-induced vibration is mainly considered from two aspects: frequency regulation and dynamic response control. The walking load models mainly include Fourier series model, self-excitation model, impulse model, stochastic model and more; the crowd load models are divided into groups: low-density crowd walking freely, high-density crowd flowing and more. Therefore, it is very important to calculate the structural vibration response in the design of long-span cable-supported footbridges under pedestrian excitation to meet comfort requirements.

Purpose
Gifting is a typical monetization strategy for live streaming platforms to motivate providers’ live content contribution. However, research regarding the factors that affect individuals’ gifting intention is still at an infant stage. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the factors that affect individuals’ gifting intention during live streaming.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors build a model to uncover the factors that affect individuals’ gifting intention from a streamer–content perspective, and the hypotheses are largely validated by online survey data through structural equation model analysis.
Findings
Individuals’ perceived attractiveness of the streamers is significantly and positively associated with gifting intention for leisure-related live streaming, whereas individuals’ perceived similarity with the streamers is significantly and positively associated with gifting intention for leisure-related and non-leisure-related live streaming. For live content-related factors, the individuals’ perceived utilitarian value of content is significantly and positively associated with gifting intention for non-leisure-related live streaming, whereas the individuals’ perceived hedonic value is significantly positively associated with gifting intention for leisure-related live streaming. Perceived symbolic value is insignificantly associated with gifting intention for neither type of live streaming.
Originality/value
The research is an original work and significantly contributes to live streaming and PWYW literature, and the findings derived from this study can guide live streaming platforms to regulate individuals’ gifting intentions/behaviors better.
