Accent is something delicate. It may change meaning. This is an important fact, which our profession has been particularly aware of; it cannot afford not to give heed to it. The phrase in figure 1 provides evidence. Accent can turn bits of information (and bytes of it) into pieces of information. It can turn, as Boulding suggests, ‘a bit into a wit’.
