Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to apply a intelligent algorithm to conduct the force tracking control for electrohydraulic servo system (EHSS). Specifically, the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) is selected to improve the control performance for EHSS.
Design/methodology/approach
Two types of input–output data were chosen to train the ANFIS models. The inputs are the desired and actual forces, and the output is the current. The first type is to set a sinusoidal signal for the current to produce the actual driving force, and the desired force is chosen as same as the actual force. The other type is to give a sinusoidal signal for the desired force. Under the action of the PI controller, the actual force tracks the desired force, and the current is the output of the PI controller.
Findings
The models built based on the two types of data are separately named as the ANFIS I controller and the ANFIS II controller. The results reveal that the ANFIS I controller possesses the best performance in terms of overshoot, rise time and mean absolute error and show adaptivity to different tracking conditions, including sinusoidal signal tracking and sudden change signal tracking.
Originality/value
This paper is the first time to apply the ANFIS to optimize the force tracking control for EHSS.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to present a control strategy which uses two independent PID controllers to realize the hovering control for unmanned aerial systems (UASs). In addition, the aim of using two PID controller is to achieve the position control and velocity control simultaneously.
Design/methodology/approach
The dynamic of the UASs is mathematically modeled. One PID controller is used for position tracking control, while the other is selected for the vertical component of velocity tracking control. Meanwhile, fuzzy logic algorithm is presented to use the actual horizontal component of velocity to compute the desired position.
Findings
Based on this fuzzy logic algorithm, the control error of the horizontal component of velocity tracking control is narrowed gradually to be zero. The results show that the fuzzy logic algorithm can make the UASs hover still in the air and vertical to the ground.
Social implications
The acquired results are based on simulation not experiment.
Originality/value
This is the first study to use two independent PID controllers to realize stable hovering control for UAS. It is also the first to use the velocity of the UAS to calculate the desired position.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to propose a systematic approach to facilitate passenger flow in high speed rail (HSR) stations. A case study is conducted to validate the approach.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper argues that HSR station management consists of train management, station capacity management, waiting room management and passenger flow management, and that two-way and dynamic information exchange exists among the components. Accordingly, the proposed approach integrates the components in HSR station management based on information exchange and heuristic algorithms. A HSR station in China with four regular waiting rooms, one mother-and-infant waiting room and one VIP waiting room located on two floors are chosen for a case study. An arrangement plan for waiting zones and waiting rooms is generated by following the proposed approach.
Findings
The result of the case study indicates that the proposed approach is capable of arranging waiting zones and waiting rooms quickly and effectively to maximize utilization of waiting room capacity and to minimize passenger walking distance from waiting rooms to platforms.
Research limitations/implications
The management problem of railway station waiting room also relates to some other factors such as platforms, tracks adjustment and delay of the trains. As an emerging technology, the Internet of Things (IoT) is expected to offer promising solutions to transform the operation and role of many existing industrial systems such as transportation systems including railway systems. The future study of the authors will focus on IoT intelligent railway management system.
Practical implications
The result indicates that the proposed method is an effective solution to the management of railway station waiting room, which can be applied to railway station management system.
Social implications
China Railway System provides service to billions of passengers. This research has significant social-economic impacts.
Originality/value
This paper fulfills an information integrated approach for improving waiting room management in high speed railway stations and a case study testing the approach.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to adopt a national cultural perspective to explore the issue of performance management in human resources among successful Chinese software firms which are owned and led by their founders. The paper aims to highlight the unique characteristics of performance management that has emerged from a Confucian culture shaped by the socio‐economic model in post‐Second World War China.
Design/methodology/approach
Multiple case study of large‐medium‐small software firms using data collected from primary and secondary sources.
Findings
The basic tenet is that despite prevailing international best practice of performance management in the Chinese software industry, the success of indigenous firms is associated with entrepreneurial leaders who align their firms' performance management with the core cultural value of collectivism.
Research limitations/implications
The paper provides a unique insight into the influence of collectivism on the process of performance management in the human resources function.
Practical implications
There might be a fine balance between implanting global performance management practices and accentuating the strengths and capabilities of the local employees within the confines of China's long history and distinctive culture.
Originality/value
Since competitor and customer variables share similar characteristics across segments of the global software industry, the human resources that enable firms to generate competitive advantages in marketing and technology will be critical for success. This paper provides an important test of the relationship between core cultural value and performance management of a knowledge‐intensive sector.

Resilience of the economy is related with its ability to cope with the challenges (e.g., economic and environmental crises). Economies need to be resilient as countries having resilient economy can enhance welfare of their people and achieve sustainable development (SD). Total factor productivity can be improved through smart technologies, smart workforce, and innovations. It requires holistic and systematic as well as strategic approach as it is directly related with the SD of the countries and welfare of their people. It is directly related with the policies covering all these main aspects with the long-term, systematic, and holistic view. Resilient economies need to enhance their resilience to keep them resilient despite of the changes which can act as threats in the future. Resilience of the economy necessitates transformation of the manufacturing industry (MI) into the sustainable, smart, circular, and global one. In this way MI's competitiveness can be enhanced. For this reason, based on an in-depth literature review, this chapter aims to examine ways for enhancing resilience of the global economy through smart, circular, and competitive MI. Specific focus is on the policies fostering the transformation of the MI into the sustainable, smart, circular, global, and innovative one. This chapter emphasizes the importance of and need for the productivity-based resilient economy. Policy makers, academics, and researchers in the relevant field can get benefit from this chapter.

Purpose
This paper proposes a robust modeling method of a giant magnetostrictive actuator which has a rate‐dependent nonlinear property.
Design/methodology/approach
It is known in statistics that the Least Wilcoxon learning method developed using Wilcoxon norm is robust against outliers. Thus, it is used in the paper to determine the consequence parameters of the fuzzy rules to reduce the sensitiveness to the outliers in the input‐output data. The proposed method partitions the input space adaptively according to the distribution of samples and the partition is irrelative to the dimension of the input data set.
Findings
The proposed modeling method can effectively construct a unique dynamic model that describes the rate‐dependent hysteresis in a given frequency range with respect to different single‐frequency and multi‐frequency input signals no matter whether there exist outliers in the training set or not. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method is effective and insensitive against the outliers.
Originality/value
The main contributions of this paper are: first, an intelligent modeling method is proposed to deal with the rate‐dependent hysteresis presented in the giant magnetostrictive actuator and the modeling precision can fulfill the requirement of engineering, such as the online modeling issue in the active vibration control; and second, the proposed method can handle the outliers in the input‐output data effectively.

Abstract
This research treated the secondary school teachers as the research scale and the research targets included the following: secondary school (employ unit), center of teacher education, and qualified teachers. In terms of these three groups of people, the topics of exploration focused on the perception of suitable teachers, perception of evaluation standard during the process of teacher examination and the relationship among teacher examination systems. The research was managed by two phases: the first phase referred to literature reorganization, expert interview, the qualities and conditions of suitable teachers, important evaluation standard during the process of teacher examination and teacher examination system used; the second phase included questionnaire survey, employ school acquisition, the perception of centers of teacher education and qualified teachers toward the suitability condition and examination evaluation standard in the first phase and teacher examination system used. This research found out that as to the perception of suitable teachers, through data collection, there were six factors reorganized. The levels of their importance were as follows: education devotion, teaching capacity, class management, capacity to guide special students, capacity to communicate with the parents and the will to undertake administrative works. Noticeably, employee unit and centers of teacher education apparently valued class management more, compared with trained teachers; as to evaluation standard of examination, the analytical result found out that the perception of three groups were different in terms of the views toward educational works, written examination data, candidate’s age, club experience at school and capacity to use multimedia support teaching materials. This research further proposed six suggestions for centers of teacher education and trained teachers: (1) employ schools considerably valued educational devotion; (2) trained teachers tended to neglect the importance of class management; (3) employee unit considerably cared about the new teachers’ competence to use multimedia support teaching materials; however, trained teachers did not have the same view; (4) employee unit considerably cared about new teachers’ views toward educational works as well as the candidates’ ages; (5) generally speaking, trained teachers neglected the importance of club experience at school; (6) the data revealed that written examination data was not relatively important in terms of teacher examination

Abstract
Purpose
Recently, China has been paying increasing attention to how to improve the efficiency of the marine environment and realize a green and sustainable development of the marine economy. Consequently, the industrial structure is crucial to improving efficiency. The purpose of this paper is to introduce environmental factors into the efficiency analysis framework and explore the relationship between marine industrial structure and marine environmental efficiency.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper uses marine economic data under the DEA-BBC model to measure the marine environmental efficiency of provinces and cities and classifies them by cluster analysis. Then, the marine industrial structure and marine environmental efficiency are studied by an econometric model with human capital, ownership structure, land economic development level, scientific research input and government intervention degree as control variables.
Findings
The overall level of marine environmental efficiency is relatively low in China, increasing and then decreasing over the research period. The rationalization of industrial structure and scientific research input have significant promoting effects on marine environmental efficiency, while the degree of government intervention has a significant inhibiting effect. The positive effect of human capital on efficiency depends on whether it can be successfully converted into productivity. The effects of industrial structure advancement, ownership structure and land economic development level of on the marine environmental efficiency are mixed.
Originality/value
The results provide a theoretical and decision-making basis for China to transform and upgrade its marine industrial structure and sustainably develop the marine economy.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to assess the level of development of the digital economy by constructing a comprehensive measurement system. It explores regional differences within China’s digital economy, highlighting the varying degrees of digital infrastructure, industrialization, governance and innovation capabilities across provinces.
Design/methodology/approach
A multidimensional analytical framework including digital infrastructure, industrialization, digitization, governance and innovation was developed. Entropy methods were used to calculate the weights of each dimension. The coupled coordination degree model and the Tobit model with random effects panel are applied to analyze the current situation, discrepancies and influencing factors.
Findings
This study reveals significant regional differences in the development of China’s digital economy, characterized by a pattern of “strong in the east, weak in the west; high in the south, low in the north.” This geographical imbalance exacerbates the “polarization effect” and the “siphon effect,” where resources and growth tend to concentrate in already developed areas, further intensifying regional inequalities. The development of the digital economy is driven by principles of innovation, coordination and sharing, which facilitate the creation and dissemination of new technologies and collaboration across different sectors. However, this progress is also constrained by considerations of environmental sustainability (green) and economic openness.
Originality/value
This paper contributes to the body of knowledge by providing a novel multidimensional measurement system for the level of digital economy development. The unique application of the coupled coordination degree model and Tobit model to analyze regional differences and influencing factors provides insights into the dynamics of China’s digital economy.

Purpose
Based on the perspective of knowledge management, this study aims to discuss how to build cross-city emergency management collaboration mechanism in major emergencies and explore the important role of knowledge management in emergency management collaboration.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on the theoretical analysis of knowledge management and the typical case study of cross-city emergency management collaborative rescue, this study provides an in-depth analysis of how these cities achieve high emergency management performance through multidimensional and multilevel knowledge collaboration, thus revealing the mechanism of knowledge transfer, integration and sharing in achieving high emergency management performance.
Findings
Through analyzing typical cases, this study finds that building a smooth mechanism for multichannel emergency rescue information can promote the diversification of knowledge transfer methods, building a platform-based integration mechanism for emergency rescue information can enhance knowledge integration capabilities and building a linkage mechanism for emergency rescue materials between cities can promote knowledge-sharing level, thereby improving emergency management performance level.
Research limitations/implications
This study has great significance for how to build cross-city emergency management collaboration mechanism in the digital era. In the future, the authors need to further discuss the following two aspects in depth: research on the impact of cross-city emergency management collaboration mechanism on improving the knowledge management capabilities of government emergency management departments; and research on the impact mechanism of knowledge management capabilities on city resilience.
Originality/value
Through case analysis of cross-city emergency management collaborative rescue for major emergencies in China in recent years, this study proposes three specific strategies for cross-city emergency management (smooth, integration and linkage mechanisms) and reveals that these three strategies are essentially aimed at improving the government’s knowledge management level.
