Abstract

Purpose

The current work explores the relationship between workplace ostracism, emotional intelligence (EI) and organizational change cynicism. This paper also aims to examine how dimensions of EI moderate the relationship between workplace ostracism and organizational change cynicism.

Design/methodology/approach

This study intends to examine the contribution of independent variable as well as moderating variable towards the outcome. Therefore, Pearson product–moment correlation and moderated regression analyses have been carried out to verify the hypotheses. To validate the tools upon the employees of India, authors have carried out measurement model analyses through AMOS and checked their composite reliability, convergent validity (average variance extraction [AVE]) and discriminant validity (square root of AVE). This study followed a simple random sampling technique with 276 employees (Male: N = 150, Mage = 34.34, female: N = 126, Mage = 31.57) from three manufacturing units of Odisha, an Eastern part of India.

Findings

Results showed that workplace ostracism was positively related to organizational change cynicism. However, only two dimensions of EI, namely, appraisal and regulation of self-emotion (ARSE) and other’s emotional appraisal were negatively related to organizational change cynicism. Moderated regression analysis indicates that positive relationship between workplace ostracism and organizational change cynicism is stronger for employees with low ARSE and other emotional appraisals than those with higher scores.

Practical/implications

The researchers conclude this paper with inputs for developing a suitable training module on EI, specifically focusing on various emotional management skills.

Originality/value

To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is first of its kind on workplace ostracism and organizational change cynicism among Indian employees in the manufacturing sector. This study also examines the moderating role of EI on workplace ostracism and organizational change cynicism, which has been somehow inadequate in the present epoch.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to analyze the impact of ethical leadership on organizational citizenship behavior and turnover intention of employees working in the financial sector, considering procedural justice as a mediator.

Design/methodology/approach

Data was collected from 306 employees working in the financial sector (banking, insurance and mutual fund) in India. The data was collected in two phases to avoid common method bias by using standardized close-ended questionnaires. Data for this study was assessed using Smart Partial Least Square (PLS) 3.

Findings

The results show that ethical leadership is significantly associated with procedural justice, organizational citizenship behavior and turnover intention. Further procedural justice acts as a mediator between ethical leadership and organizational citizenship behavior; also between ethical leadership and turnover intention.

Originality/value

The research contribute in understanding the role of procedural justice as a mediator between ethical leadership and organizational citizenship behavior and turnover intention for the employees working in the financial sector in India.

Abstract

Purpose

This chapter explores various innovative financing instruments, including green bonds, climate funds, blended finance, impact investing, public-private partnerships, carbon pricing and results-based financing. Each mechanism offers unique benefits and is vital for mobilising the necessary resources for climate and sustainability projects.

Design/Methodology/Approach

The authors employ a comprehensive review to examine the effectiveness of these innovative financing mechanisms. The study provides insights into aligning organisational strategies with climate and sustainable development goals (SDGs) by evaluating the strategic and operational implications for policymakers and practitioners.

Findings

Effective alignment of organisational strategies with climate and SDG goals is essential for accessing these financing mechanisms. Building specialised knowledge and skills within teams, developing robust risk management frameworks and fostering strong stakeholder engagement are crucial for successful project implementation. Establishing rigorous monitoring and evaluation systems ensures accountability and transparency, enhancing project performance and credibility.

Research Limitations/Implications

The result is strategic prescriptions and a broad agenda to guide future research and practice integrating climate action and SDGs through innovative financing in India. The chapter's final section provides additional avenues for future research, focusing on technological innovation, policy advocacy and the development of sustainable business models.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the extent, quantity and quality of corporate social responsibility (CSR) disclosures made by the top Indian companies in their annual reports.

Design/methodology/approach

This study analyzes the annual reports of the top 137 companies from CNX-500, over ten years, from 2008 to 2017. The technique of content analysis has been employed manually to examine the number of CSR activities disclosed, quantity and quality of CSR disclosures made by the selected companies in their annual reports. Also mean, percentages, trend analysis and analysis of variance have been employed to analyze the disclosures.

Findings

This study highlights that there is a continuous increase in the quantity of disclosures and the number of CSR activities disclosed by Indian companies over the selected period. It also observed that among the selected themes, most disclosed CSR activities are from “customer theme” and “community development theme.” Findings regarding the quality of CSR disclosures revealed that the “qualitative disclosures with specific information” are preferred most by the companies within India. Also, there is a significant variation in the quantity of CSR disclosures across the selected eight themes.

Originality/value

As most of the prior literature on CSR disclosures focused on developed countries in comparison to developing ones, this study contributes to the existing literature by carrying out an extensive investigation of this concept among the Indian companies. Moreover, there are very few studies addressing such a scientific inquiry in the Indian context, especially after the introduction of amendments in the Companies Act, 2013. Furthermore, this study utilizes a comprehensive research instrument consisting of a total of 178 CSR activities, divided across eight themes for collecting data on disclosures from the annual reports. This instrument can be used in the future studies on CSR disclosures in other developing countries as well.

Abstract

Industry 4.0 (I4.0), the Fourth Industrial Revolution, integrates Big Data analytics, blockchain, cloud computing, digitisation and the Internet of Things to enhance supply chain (SC) activities and achieve sustainable growth through dynamic capabilities (DCs). This approach equips businesses with the necessary tools to optimise their operations and remain competitive in a dynamic business environment. The value proposition of a business encompasses a wide range of activities that add value at each stage. By leveraging DCs, a firm can achieve innovation, gain a competitive advantage and enhance its adaptability. Conversely, effective value chain management can amplify the influence of a firm's DCs on SC sustainability, by reducing waste, optimising resource utilisation and fostering strategic partnerships. This mutually beneficial connection takes the form of a dynamic interaction in which I4.0 technologies act as a catalyst to help organisations become more resilient, adaptive and responsive. The adoption of these technologies denotes a comprehensive approach to business shift, not merely technical integration. I4.0 has an impact on several organisational disciplines outside of manufacturing, from automation and efficiency advantages to quality enhancements. This chapter offers an extensive literature review to explore the level of SC sustainability that a business can achieve by combining its DCs and implementing strategic I4.0 adoption. The function of value chain management in moderating the effects of I4.0 and DCs on SC sustainability is also assessed. This study proposes a theoretical model that is grounded in the insights extracted from the literature review.

The readers will gain practical insights on the key attributes of a women entrepreneur, the role of innovative product design and usage, the core challenges and opportunities and the strategies to overcome entrepreneurial hurdles in the Moonj handicraft business.

Case overview/synopsis

The case is about “Rekhaakriti”, a handicraft artisan-oriented firm, which deals in the business of selling handicrafts items like traditional wooden toys, Moonj baskets, rice bowls and vermilion boxes, in both business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) markets. Incorporated as a non-governmental organization (NGO) in the year 2014, “Rekhaakriti” was founded with the purpose of preserving, promoting and advancing the Moonj handicraft. Throughout its formative years, the organization experienced several organizational and operational challenges and got almost on the edge of collapse. The dilemma that surrounded Rekha Sinha, a key founding member of “Rekhaakriti”, was whether to carry or dissolve the organization. But, after much contemplation, she decided to convert the organization to a sole proprietorship firm in the year 2017. However, the restructuring decision was also proving to become less effective in attaining the objectives for which the firm got established. This led the owner, Rekha Sinha, to further dug deep to identify obstacles (both internal and external) that impede her firm’s expansion and growth. This case narrates Rekha Sinha's intricate entrepreneurial path in building an innovative handicraft organization and explains how she overcame the overall organizational and operational obstacles. The case provides the context for students to assume the role of protagonist and explore creative strategies for overcoming market obstacles through upskilling, design intervention and product innovation.

Complexity academic level

The case study is intended for the students pursuing their graduation and post-graduation courses in business, management studies, marketing and entrepreneurship. The case also provides suitable insights to management trainees and executives.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to identify the cricketers who were able to justify their salary by their on‐field performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Design/methodology/approach

A measure is developed to quantify the batting, bowling and wicket keeping performance of a cricketer into one single index called as the performance index. Based on the performance index of cricketers, from first three seasons of IPL, and using the binomial option pricing model, the neutral present values of the cricketers are determined. The distributional pattern of the present values of cricketers is identified and cricketers are classified based on the level of present values. Similarly, the distributional pattern of the bid prices of cricketers is identified and the cricketers are classified on the level of their bid prices. The cross tabulation of the classified bid prices and classified present values, can be used to identify the cricketers who were able to justify their salaries.

Findings

The study can spell out which players had amplified their bid prices and to what extent by their on‐field performances.

Research limitations/implications

The performance measure developed in the paper does not consider the fielding skill of the cricketers, as there is no established measure for fielding performance in the game of cricket. Another limitation of the study is that the risk neutral probabilities for the upward and downward states, for the different time periods are assumed to be constant. However, in real life situations these risk neutral probabilities may not be constant for the different time periods.

Practical implications

The proposed model of performance measurement can also be used in several other professional sports. As the idea of IPL works, on franchisee‐system based of hiring players and transfers, so the same model can be applicable to all such sports like football, rugby, baseball where such system exists. This may be helpful to the franchisee to decide on which players should be considered and who should to be dropped for a given price. The players can also use this model to understand what their market price should be and ensure that they are not underpaid.

Originality/value

The article is the first of its kind and hence original in nature.

Abstract

Purpose

The main aim of this paper is to develop a supply chain efficiency framework to improve overall business performance in the competitive era. This paper offers a critical literature review on supply chain efficiency that aims to reveal the basic research that has been carried out, the problem areas and requirements for the efficiency in the new era of the supply chain.

Design/methodology/approach

The methodology followed during this research involves beginning with a wide base of articles lying at the supply chain intersection, performance measurement topics, and then screening the list to concentrate on supply chain efficiency.

Findings

Findings show that supply chain efficiency in the modern era remains an open research field. This research contributes to the supply chain literature by clarifying the supply chain efficiency definition, defining key measurements and variables for supply chain efficiency and developing a supply chain efficiency framework to improve overall performance.

Practical implications

This study will be very useful to the scholars working in this field. The proposed framework would help researchers and academicians to understand every dimension and variable of supply chain efficiency, allowing practitioners to measure efficiency levels and identify improvement measures. This framework would also act as a comprehensive guide for future studies and business practices.

Originality/value

As there are several state-of-the-art review papers on various supply chain areas, there is a lack of literature available on supply chain efficiency studies that can provide a comprehensive framework for researchers on related literature. Thus, the present study seeks to bridge this gap in the supply chain literature. Also, this study will provide a strong basis for researchers and academicians to apply the supply chain efficiency measurement system to the dynamic supply chain.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the distinction and relationships between the significant strategic capabilities for managing risks in supply chains. This intersectional review exposes a substantial conceptual contradiction between the perspectives reported by various researchers. Further, the current paper classifies the literature into four categories according to the broad objectives investigated by the research papers.

Design/methodology/approach

Initially, a bibliometric analysis aligned with the concepts of a systematic literature review is conducted followed by a descriptive review focusing on models and methods. The software called BibExcel is utilized to extract and analyze the bibliographic information in a textual form from the research articles associated with strategic capabilities of the logistics sector. The results are exported to the software known as Gephi to visualize keyword co-occurrence analysis as networks. A well-structured descriptive review is also conducted to identify avenues for future research.

Findings

Despite conventional supply chain capabilities like efficiency and effectiveness, eight significant strategic capabilities of supply chains for managing risks are identified from the literature. These capabilities with positive connotations include flexibility, reliability, resilience, robustness, agility, adaptability, alignment and responsiveness. Considering the vast literature on flexibility/reliability along with its numerous dimensions and scope, the authors found that resilience, robustness, agility, adaptability, alignment and effectiveness are achievable through flexibility/reliability. Accordingly, it is appropriate to state reliability and flexibility as supply chain capabilities to achieve the other six supply chain competencies. Furthermore, the entire literature in this domain can be classified into four genres according to the addressed objectives, namely, concept development/validation, capability assessment, network design and performance evaluation.

Research limitations/implications

The information revealed from the keyword co-occurrence analysis along with the research implications provided in the penultimate section will assist budding researchers in framing novel and promising research objectives. Supply chain administrators and policymakers can utilize the literature classification and the notable references provided in this review for locating potential methods for assessing supply chain strategic capabilities, designing the supply chain and evaluating the performance of the supply chain.

Originality/value

An integrated bibliometric and descriptive literature review procedure is utilized in this paper. Furthermore, this critical review is the first work on comprehensively mapping the research relationships among various strategic capabilities required for mitigating supply chain risks.
