Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effects of liquid carbon dioxide (LCO2) on grinding of stainless steel.
Design/methodology/approach
A factorial experimental approach was used to compare the LCO2's performance against grinding under dry air and emulsion coolants.
Findings
The experimental results have a great use to practitioners. It was found that under special conditions, LCO2 proves to be an alternative coolant for grinding of temperature sensitive materials. Furthermore, grinding under LCO2 conditions produced the lowest tangential force, while the normal forces were close to the values found under emulsion fluid environment. When compared to grinding under dry conditions, LCO2 coolant was successful in reducing the work piece temperatures. LCO2 and emulsion conditions inhibit work hardening by reducing material deformation at the grinding zone.
Originality/value
The paper shows that sub‐zero temperature coolants have the ability to bring about lower grinding temperatures than what is typically achieved under conventional fluids.

Purpose: The purpose of this chapter is to critically evaluate the implementation of technologies from the perspective of guest services, innovation and visitor experiences. The paper focuses on the value of robots, service automation and artificial intelligence in hospitality and examines their influence on service quality
Design/methodology/approach: The chapter is a critical and conceptual overview of the emergence and implementation of robots, service automation and artificial intelligence in the hospitality with an emphasis on service, service quality and guest experience. A comprehensive overview of the academic literature of customer service and guest experience is combined with industry examples from various service operations in hospitality in order to examine the implementation of RAISA in the hospitality industry from a range of academic and practical viewpoints.
Findings: The chapter argues that despite the global acceptance of technologies in service industries in general and hospitality in particular, it remains difficult to find the right balance between digital and human interactions. In the context of service quality, the implementation of robots and service automation is increasingly important for gaining a competitive advantage, but the provision of more personalized guest experiences remains controversial.
Originality/value: The study provides a comprehensive and systematic review of RAISA in a hospitality context and examine their impacts on service quality. The chapter is a critical examination of the potential of RAISA to transform the service experience and raises some fundamental questions regarding the need for RAISA, its practical implications and impact over the understanding and measurement of service quality.

Abstract
The global methods of generalized differential quadrature (GDQ) and generalized integral quadrature (GIQ) are applied to solve three‐dimensional, incompressible, laminar boundary layer equations. The streamwise and crosswise velocity components are taken as the dependent variables. The normal velocity is obtained by integrating the continuity equation along the normal direction where the integral is approximated by GIQ approach with high order of accuracy. All the spatial derivatives are discretized by a GDQ scheme. After spatial discretization, the resultant ordinary differential equations are solved by the 4‐stage Runge—Katta scheme. Application of GDQ—GIQ approach to a test problem demonstrated that accurate numerical results can be obtained using just a few grid points.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to study the functionality of additively manufactured (AM) parts, mainly depending on their dimensional accuracy and surface finish. However, the products manufactured using AM usually suffer from defects like roughness or uneven surfaces. This paper discusses the various surface quality improvement techniques, including how to reduce surface defects, surface roughness and dimensional accuracy of AM parts.
Design/methodology/approach
There are many different types of popular AM methods. Unfortunately, these AM methods are susceptible to different kinds of surface defects in the product. As a result, pre- and postprocessing efforts and control of various AM process parameters are needed to improve the surface quality and reduce surface roughness.
Findings
In this paper, the various surface quality improvement methods are categorized based on the type of materials, working principles of AM and types of finishing processes. They have been divided into chemical, thermal, mechanical and hybrid-based categories.
Research limitations/implications
The review has evaluated the possibility of various surface finishing methods for enhancing the surface quality of AM parts. It has also discussed the research perspective of these methods for surface finishing of AM parts at micro- to nanolevel surface roughness and better dimensional accuracy.
Originality/value
This paper represents a comprehensive review of surface quality improvement methods for both metals and polymer-based AM parts.

Abstract
Purpose
This study explores information behavior and perception and vaccination among America's three largest ethnic minorities, Hispanic, Black/African American and Asian, in COVID-19 context. Information behavior and perception are investigated from cultural and demographic characteristics, while vaccination is explored from COVID-19 related information behavior and utility/value of COVID-19 vaccine information.
Design/methodology/approach
Using Qualtrics survey panel, a national survey of America's Hispanic, Black/African American and Asian population was conducted to better understand the impact of cultural and demographic factors on COVID-19 related information. Data were collected in Fall 2021. Multiple and logistic regression were conducted to analyze data.
Findings
Results show that cultural factors (i.e. cultural identity, social identity, social capital and religiousness) exert significant impact on information value and seeking across all three minority groups, while some demographic factors, Republicanism and age, also significantly predict COVID-19 related information seeking and value for Black/African Americans and Hispanics, but less for Asian Americans. Lastly, information value was found to significantly predict vaccine status, willingness and eagerness, the three facets of vaccination as conceptualized in this study, for top three racial/ethic minorities.
Originality/value
The finding of this study reveal that there are variations in terms of the level and type of attachment to one's culture/social group in COVID-19 informational context. Between the three groups, granular differences were observed regarding the relationship between cultural factors and perceived COVID-19 information value. While cultural identity is most associated with African Americans, social capital is most evident for the Asian Americans, but social identity was the strongest predictor among Hispanics. Thus, this study offers important strategic insights into a unique population sample to better understand the impact of COVID-19 related information perception and vaccination implication.

Abstract
Mixed recirculatory flow in the annuli of stationary and rotating horizontal cylinders were studied numerically. A set of distorted ‘false transient’ parameters were introduced to speed up the steady state solution of the unsteady vorticity, energy and stream function—vorticity equations. The inner cylinder of the annuli is assumed heated and rotating at Reynolds numbers that exclude the effects of centrifugal acceleration and three‐dimensional Taylor vortices. The Prandtl number considered is in the range of 0.01 to 1.0 and Rayleigh number in the range of 102 to 106. Radius ratios of the cylinders considered are 1.25, 2.5 and 5.0. For a radius ratio of 2.5, inner cylinder rotation in the Reynolds number range of 0 to 1120 was considered. Vertical eccentricities in the range of ±2/3 were studied for cases of the rotating inner cylinder. Numerical experiments show that the mean Nusselt number increases with Rayleigh number for both cases of concentric and eccentric stationary inner cylinder. At a Prandtl number of order 1.0 with a fixed Rayleigh number, when the inner cylinder is made to rotate, the mean Nusselt number decreases throughout the flow. At lower Prandtl number of the order 0.1 to 0.01, the mean Nusselt number remained fairly constant with respect to the rotational Reynolds number.

Purpose
The paper seeks to examine problem‐based learning (PBL) as an emerging learning paradigm and proposes that it is a viable approach in leadership development. It aims to identify several key factors, strategies and possible outcomes associated with this new approach to training.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on a review of the literature on PBL, organizational learning and leadership training as well as practical experience, the paper discusses the salient features of PBL and their impact on leadership development through multiple levels of simultaneous learning.
Findings
Three important factors have been identified as contributing to the meaningfulness of leaders' learning process: problem definition, open communication and utilization of resources. Expert guidance after the formal PBL training phase provides the sensemaking pathway in shaping the learning‐oriented behavior of leaders.
Practical implications
A matrix eliciting a guided approach to PBL in leadership development is presented to make explicit the subtle complexity of the learning process. Through both a structured training to an unstructured operational phase, PBL has led leaders to the discovery of new roles, attitudes and knowledge required to meet current changing times.
Originality/value
The structured yet diverse learning framework of PBL provides a unique dimension to human resource development. When applied to a dynamic organizational context, PBL provides an integrative mix of learning opportunities and harmonizes potential learning disturbances to develop the real leader. This is an area that has not been extensively researched.
