Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to dye silk with natural pigments extract of Coreopsis tinctoria, by treating the fabrics with appropriate mordant under suitable dyeing conditions, to achieve good dyeing depth, fastness and ultraviolet (UV) protection.
Design/methodology/approach
Firstly, single factor experiments were used to determine the basic dyeing conditions of Coreopsis tinctoria. The optimal process conditions for direct dyeing were determined through orthogonal experiments. After that, the dyeing with mordant was used. Based on the previously determined optimal process conditions, silk fabrics were dyed with different mordanting methods, with different mordants and mordant dosages. The dyeing results were compared, in terms of the K/S values of the dyed fabrics, to determine the most appropriate dyeing conditions with mordant.
Findings
The extract of Coreopsis tinctoria can dye silk fabrics satisfactorily. Good dyeing depth and fastness can be obtained by using suitable dyeing methods and dyeing conditions, especially when using the natural mordant pomegranate rind and the rare earth mordant neodymium oxide. The silk fabrics dyed with Coreopsis tinctoria have good UV resistance, which allows a desirable finishing effect to be achieved while dyeing, using a safe and environmentally friendly method.
Research limitations/implications
The composition of Coreopsis tinctoria is complex, and the specific composition of colouring the silk fibre has not been determined. There are many factors that affect the dyeing experiment, which have an impact on the experimental results.
Practical implications
The results of this study may help expand the application of Coreopsis tinctoria beyond medicine.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this paper is the first report on dyeing silk with the extract of Coreopsis tinctoria achieving good dyeing results. Its depth of staining and staining fastness were satisfactory. Optimum dyeing method and dyeing conditions have been identified. The fabric dyed with Coreopsis tinctoria has good UV protection effect, which is conducive to improving the application value of the dyeing fabric. The findings help offer a new direction for the application of medicinal plants in the eco-friendly dyeing of silk.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to reduce the gloss of the surface of silk fabrics, by treating the fabrics with tea and matting agent, to imitate the aging and retro effects of silk artefacts.
Design/methodology/approach
Silk fabrics were treated with different processing techniques. The aged appearance and surface gloss of the silk fabrics were characterised by sensory analysis, measurement of reflectivity, scanning electron microscopy, measurement of brightness and chroma to identify the influential factors.
Findings
The application of matting agent on silk fabrics could reduce the lustre of silk fabrics. Treated with matting agent and tea pigments, silk fabrics could be “aged” to achieve retro effects within a relatively short period of time. A number of other factors and mechanisms that affect the reflectivity of the silk fabrics were also identified.
Research limitations/implications
There is no definite index to evaluate the antique effect of fabrics.
Practical implications
The method developed through this study provided a simple and practical solution to achieving aging and retro effects on silk fabrics.
Originality/value
The method for reducing the lustre of silk fabrics by treating them with matting agent is novel and the finding of the relationships among reflectivity and brightness and chroma is original.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study reported in this paper was to find the correct Mt/M8 and Dt/a2 data lists of Hill Formula. This paper enumerates several kinds of Hill formula data lists presented in different literatures, and the authors hope to draw the correct conclusion.
Design/methodology/approach
The eight different forms collected in the research project were compared. The mathematician was asked to give a suggestion from a professional point of view and to arrive at a conclusion.
Findings
In all eight cases, the third, the eighth and seventh cases are consistent and are considered reasonable and correct.
Research limitations/implications
First-hand information was not used because of unavailability of the earliest published version of the Hill formula.
Practical implications
It is helpful to the correct application of Hill formula and the calculation of diffusion coefficient. It is also valuable to the study of dyeing kinetics.
Originality/value
The research helps to reduce and avoid the confusion in the application of Hill formula in dyeing kinetics research.

This paper summarizes the challenges in the development of high-speed maglev railways in China. Based on this analysis, it puts forward considerations for future research on high-speed maglev railways.

Abstract
Purpose
To investigate the degradation of lead free solder heat‐sink attachment by thermal shock. Samples with high voiding percentages were selected for the investigation in order to get information on the significance of voids on the reliability of Sn‐Ag‐Cu heat‐sink attachment.
Design/methodology/approach
Through the use of X‐ray, C‐mode scanning acoustic microscopy, dye penetration, cross section and scanning electron microscopy/energy‐dispersive X‐ray tests, the degradation of Sn‐Ag‐Cu heat‐sink attachment during thermal shock cycling was evaluated.
Findings
The results showed that the Sn‐Ag‐Cu heat‐sink attachment where the area of voiding was 33‐48 per cent survived 3,000 thermal shock cycles, although degraded. The main degradation mechanism for the solder attachment was not solder fatigue but interface delamination due to Kirkendall voids at the Cu/Cu3Sn interface. It was found that the large voids in the Sn‐Ag‐Cu heat‐sink attachment were not significantly affecting the solder joint lifetime. Big differences of intermetallic compound growth behaviour and Kirkendall voids at device/solder and solder/Cu pad interfaces are found and the reasons for this are discussed.
Originality/value
This work has clarified the general perception that large voids affect the thermo‐mechanical lifetime of solder joint substantially and also provides further understanding of the Sn‐Ag‐Cu heat‐sink attachment degradation mechanism.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the safety of formation flying satellites, and propose a method for practical collision monitoring and collision avoidance manoeuvre.
Design/methodology/approach
A general formation description method based on relative orbital elements is proposed, and a collision probability calculation model is established. The formula for the minimum relative distance in the crosstrack plane is derived, and the influence of J2 perturbation on formation safety is analyzed. Subsequently, the optimal collision avoidance manoeuvre problem is solved using the framework of linear programming algorithms.
Findings
The relative orbital elements are illustrative of formation description and are easy to use for perturbation analysis. The relative initial phase angle between the in‐plane and cross‐track plane motions has considerable effect on the formation safety. Simulations confirm the flexibility and effectiveness of the linear programming‐based collision avoidance manoeuvre method.
Practical implications
The proposed collision probability method can be applied in collision monitoring for the proximity operations of spacecraft. The presented minimum distance calculation formula in the cross‐track plane can be used in safe configuration design. Additionally, the linear programming method is suitable for formation control, in which the initial and terminal states are provided.
Originality/value
The relative orbital elements are used to calculate collision probability and analyze formation safety. The linear programming algorithms are extended for collision avoidance, an approach that is simple, effective, and more suitable for on‐board implementation.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to explore the influence of founder shareholders’ resources on the allocation of control rights from the perspective of incomplete contract theory and resource-based theory.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper analyzes newspaper materials with NVivo11on a case of battle for corporate control in Chinese top-listed company-Vanke Group.
Findings
The research shows that human capital is the key resource and the holding proportion of financial resources directly affects the allocation of control rights. At the same time, social capital is unstable and easily broken. At last, institutional environment also affects the degree between the relationship of founder shareholders’ resources and the allocation of control rights. The influence of founder-shareholder resources on the allocation of control rights follows the path of “crisis – founder-shareholder’s resources – founder’s ability - allocation of control rights.”
Research limitations/implications
This study only selects the financial capital, human capital and social capital of Shi Wang, the founder of Vanke, as the analysis object. The study can expand the types of founder shareholder resources to verify and enrich the conclusions.
Originality/value
The current theoretical research in the literature focuses on the necessity of equity and shareholder’s resources versus the control rights. Some key factors and mechanism on the relationship have not been fully clarified. The results of this paper not only extend the combination research of social network and corporate governance, but also provide enterprise founders with references for making reasonable decisions during control battle.

Abstract
Purpose
Fractional calculus provides powerful tool to build more realistic and accurate mathematical models in economic field. This paper aims to explore a proposed fractional-order differentiated Cournot duopoly game and its discretized game.
Design/methodology/approach
Conditions for existence and uniqueness of the proposed game’s solution are derived. The existence of Nash equilibrium point and its local and global stability are obtained. Furthermore, local stability analysis of the discretized game is investigated. The effects of fractional-order on game’s dynamics are examined, along with other parameters of the game, via the 2D bifurcation diagrams in planes of system’s parameters are acquired.
Findings
Theoretical and numerical simulation results demonstrate rich variety of interesting dynamical behaviors such as period-doubling and Neimark–Sacker bifurcations, attractors’ crises in addition to chaotic attractors. The results demonstrated that the stability Nash equilibrium point of the game can be lost by period doubling or Neimark–Sacker bifurcations.
Practical implications
Oligopoly games are pivotal in the mathematical modeling of some substantial economic areas such as industrial organization, airline, banking, telecommunication companies, international trade and also macroeconomic analysis of business cycles, innovation and growth.
Originality/value
Although the Cournot game and its variants have attracted great interest among mathematicians and economists since the time of its proposition till present, memory effects in continuous-time and discrete-time Cournot duopoly game have not been addressed yet. To the best of author’s knowledge, this can be considered as the first attempt to investigate this problem of fractional-order differentiated Cournot duopoly game. In addition, studying more realistic models of Cournot oligopoly games plays a pivotal role in the mathematical investigation and better understanding of some substantial economic areas such as industrial organization, airline, banking, telecommunication companies, international trade and also in macroeconomic analysis of business cycles, innovation and growth.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to present a high-end lesson study (HELS) model to develop students' subject competency. Data were collected from a Beijing suburban key senior high school in China. How the subject competency framework (SCF) supports HELS and develops students' subject competency in practice are discussed in this study.
Design/methodology/approach
This study provides a four-dimensional SCF developed by the chemistry education research team at Beijing Normal University. Basic procedures of the HELS model involve the project plan, students' pre-test, lesson design workshop, first-round teaching implementation and improvement, second-round teaching implementation and evaluation, students' post-test, and results discussion. Data were collected from each of the procedures, and analysis of the data is conducted in both qualitative and quantitative approaches.
Findings
The results show that the SCF supports HELS implementation by (1) identifying key teaching objectives based on curriculum standard requirements and students' subject competency performance; (2) organizing teaching content based on the core knowledge to develop cognitive mode; (3) designing tasks and activities regarding understanding–applying–transferring and innovating categories and sub-categories of SCF; (4) establishing students' cognitive perspectives and reasoning paths to promote their subject competency by teacher–student interaction.
Originality/value
The HELS model provides theory-based pedagogical guidance for conducting lesson studies. It presents the SCF and orientation. The SCF is used throughout the entire process of HELS, including the identification of teaching objectives, the selection and organization of teaching content, and the design and implementation of teaching activities. It reflects a systematic instructional design–implementation–discussion–improvement–evaluation process. The SCF-based HELS can be applied to different topics and disciplines.
