The Tax Increment Financing (TIF) method has achieved widespread popularity as a funding source to finance local infrastructure investments and improvements. However, little research has been conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of such programs. This study undertakes a regression analysis to examine the effects of the municipal adoption of TIF programs on local economic development. The empirical results suggest that the adoption of TIF programs has a significant positive effect on local employment.

This symposium examines issues related to local economic development financing. The symposium introduction paper consists of two sections: (1) a review of the literature related to local economic development in general and to the financing economic development in particular; and (2) a summary of major findings from the four symposium papers addressing such issues as rural bank loans, the tax increment financing program, professionalism in economic development, and regional development through tax sharing.

This chapter explores how resilience in the face of difficult and crisis-ridden circumstances influences innovation. By examining Qantas and the critical role played by the CEO and Managing Director Alan Joyce, we discuss how innovation leadership amid a crisis requires resilience with a balanced approach. With a lens of self-level innovation leadership, we showcase Alan Joyce’s resilience and how that flowed onto his team and the organisation to action required changes in a creative and novel way to revitalise. The chapter contributes to the literature by further detailing about how resilience from a business leadership perspective influences the organisation’s ability to encourage innovation in a difficult and crisis-ridden environment. We believe that the lessons learned from the Qantas case can inspire companies and industries that face similar challenges to understand what it means to demonstrate resilience as a leader.

THE hope we expressed in recent pages, that the Library Association might resume its normal methods of life and government, remains a hope. London, where only we suppose the Council could do its work really well, has been of late no place for the meetings of people; and we dare to say that for the key people of any profession or movement to gather there at present would be unwise, even though imagination may increase the risk beyond the warrant of the facts. Nor do we know yet if the worst has been experienced. Meanwhile it is probable that the affairs of librarianship must be delegated to even fewer workers than now. Only the chronically ungracious part of our fraternity will be without gratitude to those who keep things going for us.

Yes; “the friendliest library in the world” is Joseph Hone's description of the National Library of Ireland, and according to Stephen Gwynn it was under “one of the most enthusiastic librarians the world has known”. They wrote of a time when Thomas W. Lyster, Dr. R. I. Best and William Kirkpatrick Magee were that Library's eager hosts. Happily Dr. Best and Mr. Magee are with us. It is my misfortune not to have met them. But Lyster I knew well; he was my friend, as far as friendship is possible to men who meet only at Conferences, and when all the approaches must come from the “don”.

The entry of women in accounting has been established with great effort; however, it has been achieved thanks to the academic and research leadership that has enabled incorporation into different areas in the profession. In this context, this study seeks to identify the presence of women in academic accounting spaces in Colombia. The study analyzes the field of research from the perspective of women in the development of accounting. The methodology is qualitative, based in a case study through semi-structured interviews to establish women’s experiences, barriers and perspectives within the accounting academic and research field in Colombia. The main result is that though there is headway being made, there are also gaps for women’s participation in Colombia. This is supported by research which indicates that this situation is similar in multiple contexts. It is considered essential to integrate diverse perspectives and disciplines that contribute to the transformation of the structure of domination and elimination of barriers for women in the accounting discipline.

The number of MSMEs is very influential in economic growth, especially in developing countries. What is of concern to developing countries, although the number of MSMEs is increasing every year, they cannot develop in an increasingly competitive business environment. In this case, good business performance is needed to survive in this intense competition. This study tries to make a performance model of small-scale enterprises by finding out the effect of entrepreneurial competency variables and moderated by the variable competitive sphere and capability of organization. We use the partial least squares to confirm the theory and get answers about the influence between variables. Respondents of this study were 100 MSME owners in Bandung, Indonesia. The study's findings revealed that entrepreneurial competence had a significant influence both directly and indirectly on small firm performance. The variable of entrepreneurial competence provides the most powerful influence on the competitive sphere than organizational capability's moderating variable. Although the moderating variable of organizational capability is not as strong as the competitive sphere in influencing firm performance, it has a strong predictor (quality and flexibility).

In this interview, Dr. Nancy J. Adler describes her career trajectory, motivation, and the passion that have guided her interests and choices. Asking big questions that matter in her own research and encouraging others in the field of international management to do the same is one of her guiding principles. Dr. Adler details the startling career impact that resulted from her pioneering research on women who are global leaders in the 1990s. Given her groundbreaking research, her attempts to influence what scholars study and how they are evaluated, and her calls to action as a global consultant, speaker, and thought leader, she is one of academe's most well-known and respected global leaders.

Dr. Adler is the S. Bronfman Professor Emerita in Management at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. She is a graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), having received her BA in Economics, MBA, and PhD in Management. As one of the most widely cited international management scholars, she has authored more than 175 publications and received numerous teaching and research awards, including the Academy of Management's (AMLE) Outstanding Article Award and Decade Award and the Sage Award for Scholarly Contributions in Management. She is a Fellow of the Academy of International Business, the Academy of Management, and the International Academy of Management. In addition, she was honored as one of Canada's top university professors and inducted into the Royal Society of Canada.

Her work has also been widely recognized beyond academia. She received the Prix du Quebec, Doctor Honoris Causa from Slovenia's IEDC Bled, Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, Center for Creative Leadership's Applied Research Award, the World Federation of People Management Associations' Georges Petitpas Award, ASTD's International Leadership Award, SIETAR's Outstanding Senior Interculturalist Award, the International Leadership Association's Lifetime Achievement Award, and the YWCA's Femme de Mérite Award.

Although retired from the university setting after 40 years at McGill, Dr. Adler continues to consult and speak around the world. However, she now devotes more time to her art. She is a visual artist known for her paintings, monotype prints, and ceramic artworks. Her “Serendipity Suite” and “Reality in Translation: Art Transforming Apathy into Action” exhibitions were held at the Banff Centre, and her “Going Beyond the Dehydrated Language of Management” exhibition opened in Montreal in conjunction with the Academy of Management Meeting. Dr. Adler's artwork is held in private collections worldwide.

It's not enough to simply acquire alternative and small‐press materials. They must also be made easily accessible to library users by means of accurate, intelligible, and thorough cataloging.
