Abstract
Total quality management is the systematic way of improving quality while containing costs. In the elderly care unit at a hospital, a framework for TQM was installed using the patient trail to understand processes of care delivery, and basing its foundations on the principles of putting patients first, getting the service right first time, meeting and exceeding needs, reducing the costs of poor quality and empowering staff. Identifies operational problems following staff interview, analysed into quality indicators; quality costs in terms of time and materials; and likely locally grown solutions. Using the tools of patient information, improving the environment, communication, training, standard setting, monitoring and auditing, quality improvement teams, patient feedback and quality costing, a clinical management group is ideally poised to enjoy the benefits of total quality management.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine the Dickens et al. model of bank holding company dividend policy. They identified five explanatory factors in a sample of bank holding companies (BHCs). Banking companies typically pay larger dividends and more often than industrial firms. Investors often look at the dividends as being important return variables.
Design/methodology/approach
In this study, a sample of 99 firms with 2006 data from governmental reports and Yahoo is used in regression equations to test the relationship of the five identified variables with dividend yields. The analysis is extended to investigate non‐linearities between dividend yield and insider ownership.
Findings
The paper finds that the original model is robust, but not all variables keep their significance. Insider holdings have a non‐linear relationship with dividend yields.
Practical implications
The significant factors affecting bank dividend policy help dividend seeking investors find BHCs that return higher dividend yields.
Originality/value
This paper reveals a non‐linear link between insider holdings and dividend yields among BHCs.

Abstract
In crafting Auditing Standard No.3 (AS3), a primary objective of the PCAOB was to reduce auditors' exposure to litigation by raising the standard of care for audit documentation. We examine whether the increased documentation requirements of AS3 affect legal professionals' perceptions of audit quality and auditor responsibility in the event of an audit failure. Our experiment consists of a 3 × 2 between-participants design with law students serving as proxies for legal professionals. The results of our experiment indicate that when an audit procedure, namely the investigation of inconsistent evidence, is not required to be documented, legal professionals perceive the performance of the work itself but not its documentation to significantly increase audit quality and reduce the auditor's responsibility for an audit failure. When documentation of the procedure is required, as per AS3, legal professionals perceive enhanced audit quality and reduced auditor responsibility only if the performance of the work is documented.

Abstract
This paper explores the implications of using Apple co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs as a “paradigm case” of transformational leadership by comparing the practical metadiscourse of remembrances published at the time of his passing to the theoretical metadiscourse of transformational leadership. The authors report the frequency of transformational leadership characteristics that appeared in characterizations of Jobs in the months after his passing in October 2011. Results show that people do remember Jobs as a leader, and as one who possessed three key personal characteristics of a transformational leader: creative, passionate, and visionary. People also remembered Jobs as an innovator, which is not typically associated with transformational leadership but which does reflect the discourse of the consumer electronics industries upon which he had an impact. However, the results also show that two important interpersonal characteristics of a transformational leader were absent in the remembrance discourse: empowering and interactive. The authors discuss the implications of the two missing terms for pedagogy and theorizing, including how problematizing Jobs as a paradigm case might lead to fruitful discussions about the importance of a transformational leader’s engagement with followers.

Purpose
The purpose of this study is to emphasize the crucial role of supply chains in humanitarian and development interventions, specifically targeting gender-based violence in East Asia and the Pacific, regions prone to climate change-induced disasters. It explores optimizing development supply chains for humanitarian use, and the plausible impacts on community peacebuilding.
Design/methodology/approach
By adopting an abductive approach to the action research methodology, based on 11 case studies, including intensive fieldwork in seven, this study evaluates development supply chains for their adaptability, institutionalization and flexibility to support humanitarian needs and analyzes the potential interlinkages of peacebuilding.
Findings
The research uncovers the irregular and unsystematized present humanitarian efforts and highlighting a lack of advancement in development channels for implementing effective humanitarian preparedness and response. By focusing on the Triple Nexus framework and based on the findings, the study rather proposes enhancing the humanitarian supply chain, suggesting a restructured mechanism for development channels that fosters synergies across the dimensions. It intricately connects peacebuilding applying a Triple Nexus Analytical Framework, examining the potential impact on micro-level peacebuilding outcomes.
Research limitations/implications
The research recognizes the challenge in conceptualizing peacebuilding within the Triple Nexus framework, calling for a nuanced understanding of peacebuilding across different levels. Contrary to expectations, the case studies yielded unexpected results, suggesting a need for a reversed approach in the applied methodology, hence advancing humanitarian supply chains with synergies to development channels that in the specific cases studies lack efficiency in their current set-up.
Originality/value
This study examines the collaboration between humanitarian efforts and development initiatives and how they can collectively contribute to peacebuilding. It pushes forward the conversation on improving humanitarian preparedness by leveraging development supply chains and explores the effects of peacebuilding on local levels.

This article explores the hypothesis of Clifford Geertz concerning the importance of essentialism (culture) and epochalism (economics) in the creation of new states. It focuses on the Irish state‐building process, examining the thought of the two leaders of the 1916 rising. It finds that Patrick Pearse throughout stressed cultural revitalization and James Connolly stressed economic/social transformation. The article lends support to Geertz’s hypothesis but notes that each leader also came to appreciate the primary concern of the other.

BRITISH librarians are interested in the recollections of the Director of the University of Wyoming, in Laramie, to this country as a “Fulbright” visitor recently as recorded in that excellent house journal, the Wilson Library Bulletin (May, 1954, pages 767–71). Dr. Orwin Rush came with Mrs. Rush and a family of four children. He is appreciative of the spirit shown by “the determination of a great people to live by those beliefs and ideals which have meant so much to the free peoples of the world” and he tells of the marks the war years have left upon us still. There were, too, the personal restrictions we accepted; the tiresomeness of our government controlled radio, the patient queueing for rationed goods—just thirteen queues to shop for one ordinary meal—the “no standing on the bus,” the formal waiting for interviews, much of it mere tedium inflicted by arrogance, and much more; especially the drab school uniforms the children were forced to wear—“no jewelry allowed to be worn either by my fourteen‐year‐old daughter who was in a public school, or my five‐year‐old daughter in a private school.” Some very variable customs are regarded as universal, e.g., “the British have been eating porridge for breakfast for centuries and like it.” Universal, however, was our interior heating; “my experience in trying to heat an English house with open fires has convinced me that it is a necessity for Englishmen to sip a lot of hot tea.” We have never admitted as a race that our climate is other than temperate. Possibly this summer of 1954 has modified our view and established that the only certain truth about the weather is, “it won't last.”
