Abstract
Purpose
An investigation was conducted into the impact of various process parameters on the surface and subsurface quality of glass-ceramic materials, as well as the mechanism of material removal and crack formation, through the use of ultrasonic-assisted grinding.
Design/methodology/approach
A mathematical model of crack propagation in ultrasonic-assisted grinding was established, and the mechanism of crack formation was described through the model. A series of simulations and experiments were conducted to investigate the impact of process parameters on crack depth, surface roughness, and surface topography during ultrasonic-assisted surface and axial grinding. Additionally, the mechanism of crack formation was explored.
Findings
During ultrasonic-assisted grinding, the average grinding forces are between 0.4–1.0 N, which is much smaller than that of ordinary grinding (1.0–3.5 N). In surface grinding, the maximum surface stresses between the workpiece and the tool gradually decrease with the tool speed. The surface stresses of the workpiece increase with the grinding depth, and the depth of subsurface cracks increases with the grinding depth. With the increase of the axial grinding speed, the subsurface damage depth increases. The roughness increases from 0.780um/1.433um.
Originality/value
A mathematical model of crack propagation in ultrasonic-assisted grinding was established, and the mechanism of crack formation was described through the model. The deformation involved in the grinding process is large, and the FEM-SPH modeling method is used to solve the problem that the results of the traditional finite element method are not convergent and the calculation efficiency is low.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to obtain a shared understanding of entrepreneurship education and to evaluate the effectiveness of employability and enterprise division in current fashion courses and amongst the students between a British and a Chinese university (UClan and SCAU).
Design/methodology/approach
It is a three‐stage action‐oriented PMI2 project (Second Prime Minister's Initiative for International Education) in fashion entrepreneurship, which was funded by the British Council. This paper presents the findings of the first stage of the research project. A combination of literature reviews, participant observation, semi‐structured interviews and focus groups were employed to deliver the results at this stage.
Findings
The findings represent similarities and differences between UClan and SCAU related to enterprise entrepreneurship education: identify rationale of evaluating fashion entrepreneurship education; and clarify a shared understanding of entrepreneurship education and the purpose of evaluating the effectiveness.
Research limitations/implications
Due to geographical restrictions and limited resources, smaller‐scale samples were selected to gain a deeper insight into different approaches to fashion enterprise and entrepreneurship education between UClan and SCAU.
Practical implications
This research will be valuable to academics who wish to develop or enhance fashion entrepreneurship education, in particular with regards to forging links between universities in the UK and China.
Social implications
This paper will increase awareness of fashion entrepreneurship amongst students, graduates and academics.
Originality/value
This research contributes to the current knowledge and best practice of fashion entrepreneurship education.

Abstract
Purpose
Many managers and scholars focus on how to repair brand image after a corporate crisis. This research paper aims to propose that a fresh start mindset (FSM) and brand crisis type can jointly influence consumer forgiveness.
Design/methodology/approach
Three studies were conducted to examine the authors’ hypotheses. Study 1 is a 3 (FSM: high vs low vs control) × 2 (brand crisis: controllable vs uncontrollable) between-subjects factorial design to test the interaction effect of FSM and brand crisis type on consumer forgiveness. Study 2 is a 2 (FSM: high vs low) × 2 (brand crisis: controllable vs uncontrollable) between-subjects factorial design to identify the affective and cognitive mechanisms in the influence of FSM and brand crisis type on consumer forgiveness. Study 3 is a 2 (FSM: high vs low) × 2 (brand crisis: controllable vs uncontrollable) × 3 (strategy: defensive strategy vs accommodative strategy vs reticence) between-subjects factorial design, aimed to identify the possible boundary conditions of this effect and tested the moderating role of brand crisis response strategies.
Findings
Study 1 finds that the FSM interacts with brand crisis type to affect consumer forgiveness. Specifically, consumers faced with uncontrollable (vs controllable) brand crises tend to increase (vs decrease) consumer forgiveness after a corporate crisis. Study 2 identifies the underlying mechanism, such that two distinct mechanisms drive the interaction effect. Affective empathy and perceived responsibility mediate the interaction effect of FSM and brand crisis type on forgiveness. Study 3 replicates the findings of studies 1 and 2 and confirms the boundary condition of the effect, showing that crisis response strategy moderates the interaction between FSM and brand crisis type.
Originality/value
Theoretically, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, this research observes the interactive effect of FSM and brand crisis for the first time, thus extending the existing research on both FSM and brand crisis. This study also enriches existing empathy and responsibility literature by examining the mediating role of empathy and perceived responsibility. Practical implications for marketers are apparent, especially after a brand crisis occurs. Corporates can deal with different types of the brand crisis based on consumers’ FSM. Finally, future research with regards to the findings is discussed.

Purpose
Transformations taking place in China are of crucial importance in the development of the world economy. The international community is turning its attention to China's move towards a market economy and assessing the likely impact on the years ahead. This paper aims to plot the evolution of administrative reforms in China with particular reference to the state (and therefore public sector), because the modernization of the state is an issue that will persist into the future, and because the state itself was driving the country's transformation towards a market economy in a deliberate way.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper revisits the debate on administrative reforms at different levels, i.e. fiscal, budgeting, government organizations, and public sector units (PSUs). In addition to reconstructing the evolution of norms and procedures as part of deliberate strategies by the center, the paper also investigates how actual practices at the micro level have followed this process of reform, with reference to the administration of cultural heritage at the municipal level, based on a field research project.
Findings
A lack of understanding of the role played by actual accounting transformation seems to characterize the current debate on policies. Serious discrepancies can be found between expectations and actual changes; between macro and micro policies, and micro practices.
Originality/value
An holistic focus on various trend of reforms is taken, looking at debates that are usually separated, also linking them to actual changes in accounting practice.
