Abstract

Purpose

Agricultural science and technology (AST) often need the form of industry-university-research cooperation in successfully completing breakthrough agricultural technology innovations. Therefore, AST industry-university-research cooperation is not only the need of the AST development strategy in China but also the only way for the development of agricultural colleges and universities, agricultural scientific research institutions and agricultural enterprises. Among them, in the process of cooperative breakthrough agricultural technology innovation, the correct selection of partners is the basis for ensuring its effective operation.

Design/methodology/approach

Aiming at the time-series characteristics and information ambiguity of decision information in the dynamic selection process of AST industry-university-research partners, this research introduces the dynamic intuitionistic fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making method of time degree and orthogonal projection. On this basis, field theory is used to construct the cooperative innovation capability field model of the partners, and the threshold for the partners to enter or exit the system is designed to dynamically select and eliminate the partners.

Findings

Results show that this method fully considers the situation of cooperative innovation resources within the AST industry-university-research system and the resource complementarity of candidate partners.

Originality/value

Combined with examples from agricultural scientific research institutions, the applicability and superiority of the model are verified.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to synthesize and categorize the published literatures related to maintenance strategies formulation, selection and implementation in various industries. The purpose of this paper is to develop a conceptual framework based on literature review for formulation of maintenance strategies, selection and the implementation of selected strategies. Further, to study on impact of maintenance strategies implementation in maintenance function.

Design/methodology/approach

A literature review has been carried out to identify the existing frameworks related to maintenance strategies formulation, selection of maintenance strategy and implementation of maintenance strategy in the industry. Literature support for all the conceptual constructs referred in the framework has been discussed to establish a logical sequence.

Findings

A conceptual framework for maintenance strategies formulation, selection and implementation and its impact in maintenance function has been developed. Further, constructs and sub-constructs which form the basis for maintenance strategies formulation, selection and implementation have been identified from the literatures. In addition, propositions have also been formulated to support the conceptual framework and these propositions provide the logical relationship among the maintenance strategies formulation, selection among the formulated strategies and the implementation of these strategies.

Research limitations/implications

The conceptual framework developed in this paper for maintenance strategy formulation and selection is yet to be empirically tested. The proposed framework can be tested in various industries.

Practical implications

Literature study on maintenance strategy formulation and selection has so far been very limited. Maintenance strategy selection is a critical decision-making problem for the maintenance managers working in the process plant, manufacturing companies, etc. The conceptual framework proposed in this paper will help maintenance managers to asses, formulate, select suitable maintenance strategy and implement for their organization.

Originality/value

The paper provides comprehensive study on maintenance strategy problem which will be useful to researchers, maintenance managers and other professionals in various industries such as process industry, manufacturing industry, etc., to understand maintenance strategy selection problem and implementation of maintenance strategy.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to synthesise a tetrakisazo reactive dye and to characterise its dyeing property to meet the demand for better black reactive dyes.

Design/methodology/approach

The novel tetrakisazo navy-blue reactive dye based on 4,4′-diaminostilbene-2,2′-disulphonic acid was designed and synthesized. The dyeing behaviour of it on cotton fabric was discussed. The synergistic blackening effect and absorbance spectra were investigated by absorbance and reflectance spectra, K/S and colorimetric data.

Findings

The exhaustion and fixation of the designed reactive dye were higher than 20 per cent than those of the commercial reactive dye, CI Reactive Black 5. The novel reactive dye has complementary with Reactive Red SPB and Reactive Yellow C-5R in absorbance spectra from 360 to 700 nm. Three reactive dyes had synergistic effect in colour deepening properties. The dyed cotton fabric possessed high K/S value and low reflectance in the whole visual spectrum range from 360 to 700 nm.

Practical implications

Comparison with the commercial Reactive Black DN-RN, the blackness of the dyed fabrics with the mixture dyes was greatly improved and the fastness properties on cotton fabrics were also good.

Originality/value

The paper is an original research work. Because the mixture dyes had better blackness and good fastness properties, it would have wide application in the dyeing of cotton fabric.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of self‐emulsifying polysiloxanes containing multi‐cationic groups as resin on fastness properties of dyed cellulose fabrics.

Design/methodology/approach

Cellulose fabrics were dyed with three reactive dyes. Then, the self‐emulsifying polysiloxanes containing multi‐cationic groups as resin were applied to the dyed cellulose fabrics. The fastness properties were investigated.

Findings

The results show that the wet rubbing fastness, washing fastness and perspiration fastness of three dyed samples treated with novel self‐emulsifying polysiloxanes are higher than those of the dyed samples without the polymer treatment. The complexes of cellulose with the polysiloxanes having multi‐cationic groups are formed. With the increase of the quantity of cationic groups in the polymer macromolecules, the wet rubbing and washing fastness further increase. The self‐emulsifying polysiloxanes can affect the colour yields (K/S) of the dyed fabrics.

Originality/value

The self‐emulsifying polysiloxanes containing multi‐cationic groups are novel functional materials. They are easily self‐emulsifying in water, without the need of disperse agents, and form a transparent macromolecule colloid solution. Self‐emulsifying polysiloxanes as resins can change material properties to improve their wet fastness and gloss. They have potential application as resins in the coloration industry. This paper is an original research report and has not been published previously.

Abstract

Purpose

The use of social media and in particular community Question Answering (Q & A) websites by learners has increased significantly in recent years. The vast amounts of data posted on these sites provide an opportunity to investigate the topics under discussion and those receiving most attention. The purpose of this paper is to automatically analyse the content of a popular computer programming Q & A website, StackOverflow (SO), determine the exact topics of posted Q & As, and narrow down their categories to help determine subject difficulties of learners. By doing so, the authors have been able to rank identified topics and categories according to their frequencies, and therefore, mark the most asked about subjects and, hence, identify the most difficult and challenging topics commonly faced by learners of computer programming and software development.

Design/methodology/approach

In this work the authors have adopted a heuristic research approach combined with a text mining approach to investigate the topics and categories of Q & A posts on the SO website. Almost 186,000 Q & A posts were analysed and their categories refined using Wikipedia as a crowd-sourced classification system. After identifying and counting the occurrence frequency of all the topics and categories, their semantic relationships were established. This data were then presented as a rich graph which could be visualized using graph visualization software such as Gephi.

Findings

Reported results and corresponding discussion has given an indication that the insight gained from the process can be further refined and potentially used by instructors, teachers, and educators to pay more attention to and focus on the commonly occurring topics/subjects when designing their course material, delivery, and teaching methods.

Research limitations/implications

The proposed approach limits the scope of the analysis to a subset of Q & As which contain one or more links to Wikipedia. Therefore, developing more sophisticated text mining methods capable of analysing a larger portion of available data would improve the accuracy and generalizability of the results.

Originality/value

The application of text mining and data analytics technologies in education has created a new interdisciplinary field of research between the education and information sciences, called Educational Data Mining (EDM). The work presented in this paper falls under this field of research; and it is an early attempt at investigating the practical applications of text mining technologies in the area of computer science (CS) education.
