Abstract
Purpose
Climate engineering management (CEM) as an emerging and cross-disciplinary subject gradually draws the attention to researchers. This paper aims to focus on economic and social impacts on the technologies of climate engineering themselves. However, very few research concentrates on the management of climate engineering. Furthermore, scientific knowledge and a unified system of CEM are limited.
Design/methodology/approach
In this paper, the concept of CEM and its characteristics are proposed and elaborated. In addition, the framework of CEM is established based on management objectives, management processes and supporting theory and technology of management. Moreover, a multi-agent synergistic theory of CEM is put forward to guide efficient management of climate engineering, which is composed of time synergy, space synergy, and factor synergy. This theory is suitable for solving all problems encountered in the management of various climate engineering rather than a specific climate engineering. Specifically, the proposed CEM system aims to mitigate the impact of climate change via refining and summarizing the interrelationship of each component.
Findings
Overall, the six research frontiers and hotspots in the field of CEM are explored based on the current status of research.
Originality/value
In terms of the objectives listed above, this paper seeks to provide a reference for formulating the standards and norms in the management of various climate engineering, as well as contribute to policy implementation and efficient management.

Abstract
Purpose
Prior studies on virtual product purchase have focused on external technological factor but have paid less attention to internal user factors. Thus, drawing upon the social presence and user engagement theories, the purpose of this paper is to develop a research model considering both technological factors and user factors and empirically examine the validity of the proposed research model.
Design/methodology/approach
A survey from 214 World of Warcraft players was conducted to test the proposed research model, and structural equation modelling approach (specifically, PLS) was used to test the proposed hypotheses.
Findings
The data analysis results suggest that both social presence and user engagement positively influence the intention to purchase virtual products. Furthermore, two technological factors, interactivity and sociability, are found to affect social presence, and two social factors, social ties and social identity, are found to affect user engagement.
Originality/value
This study proposes a dual factor framework (i.e. technological and user factors) to investigate the factors influencing the intention to purchase by integrating the social presence perspective and user engagement perspective. The findings would be beneficial for service provider of massively multiplayer online role-playing games to recognize that triggering user demand is of equal importance with offering better technologies and suggest new ways to promote users’ virtual product purchase intentions.

In complex adaptive system (CAS), the complex behavior of system is emerged from the bottom, that agents’ adaptability bottom‐up the complexity of the entire system. This idea can be simulated by the method of computer aid simulation. SWARM, which is developed by Santa Fe Institute, is such a tools kit based on the bottom‐up modeling method that can be used in CAS simulation on computer. This paper presented a Swarm based simulation platform for the study on complexity in flood disaster. Its application is illustrated with a SWARM based model and program for simulating spatial and temporal emergence of flooding. This model offers virtually unlimited possibilities to simulate the emergence of flooding. Some rules have been elicited from the experimental results, which could provide useful information for the disaster reduction and management.

Purpose
Due to climate change and an increasing concentration of the world’s population in vulnerable areas, how to manage catastrophe risk efficiently and cover disaster losses fairly is still a universal dilemma.
Methodology
This paper applies a law and economic approach.
Findings
China’s mechanism for managing catastrophic disaster risk is in many ways unique. It emphasizes government responsibilities and works well in many respects, especially in disaster emergency relief. Nonetheless, China’s mechanism which has the vestige of a centrally planned economy needs reform.
Practical Implications
I propose a catastrophe insurance market-enhancing framework which marries the merits of both the market and government to manage catastrophe risks. There are three pillars of the framework: (i) sustaining a strong and capable government; (ii) government enhancement of the market, neither supplanting nor retarding it; (iii) legalizing the relationship between government and market to prevent government from undermining well-functioning market operations. A catastrophe insurance market-enhancing framework may provide insights for developing catastrophe insurance in China and other transitional nations.
Originality
First, this paper analyzes China’s mechanism for managing catastrophic disaster risks and China’s approach which emphasizes government responsibilities will shed light on solving how to manage catastrophe risk efficiently and cover disaster losses fairly. Second, this paper starts a broader discussion about government stimulation of developing catastrophe insurance and this framework can stimulate attention to solve the universal dilemma.

Abstract
Purpose
The commercial sharing service (CSS) represents an emerging business model in which users pay a minor fee to rent a product for a short period of time. Fashion CSSs enable individuals to rent various garments and accessories with the goal of enhancing one’s public image while saving money. Marketers have strived to popularize fashion CSSs, but concerns related to contamination have thwarted their efforts. Based on face consciousness theory, this research examines how consumers’ desire to enhance their public image (i.e. to “gain face”) can attenuate the negative impacts of contamination concerns and thus facilitate fashion CSS usage.
Design/methodology/approach
Two scenario-based studies were conducted to collect data. Participants were recruited via online survey platforms in mainland China. The hypotheses were tested by partial least squares (PLS) path modeling and linear regression analysis.
Findings
The analysis results revealed a two-stage mediation model. Contamination concerns were found to inhibit consumers’ participation in fashion-sharing by increasing their perceived risk, which further decreased the perceived value of the CSS. However, consumers’ desire to gain face can mitigate the negative (direct and indirect) effects of contamination concerns on CSS usage, facilitating CSS adoption.
Originality/value
Our findings suggest that eliciting consumers’ desire to gain face can promote fashion CSS usage and attenuate the negative impacts of contamination concerns. Moreover, consumers are less risk-averse and less concerned about shared pieces being contaminated when they seek to enhance their face through fashion products. Practical implications for fashion marketers are discussed.

The emergence of nature tourism in early medieval China can be attributed to four major factors, including transformation of value orientations, seeking longevity, interest in suburbs and population migration.
Research limitations/implications
Historical studies help understand the current and future trends. When the contributing factors for nature tourism are linked to the contemporary world, it can be found that these factors are still playing a part in shaping tourism trends or patterns in their original or alternative forms. These trends or patterns are worthy of scholarly investigations.
Originality/value
This paper offers a comprehensive understanding of the origins of nature tourism.

Purpose
The purpose of this study is to understand the functional properties of ball valve in a compressible flow and simulation of experimental data collection of ball valve, was completely simulated.
Design/methodology/approach
Equations are solved according to finite volume and simplified algorithms. By measuring the flow parameters, including pressure and temperature at different points in the simulation circuit, flow coefficients and localized drop in the valve were determined in different openness cases of test valve and compared with experimental results. Determining a graph for flow coefficient variations in terms of the percentage of openness of the valve is very effective on the flow control as well as on optimizing its cross-section.
Findings
In the supersonic flow, flow coefficients and local drops of the valve are dependent on several parameters, including fluid flow rate. Flow coefficient graphs at different angles of the test valve show that by increasing the valve opening angle, the flow coefficient increases so that it reaches from 1.72 m3/h at a 30° angle to 46.29 m3/h at a 80° angle. It should be noted that these values in the experimental test were obtained 1.53 m3/h and 49.68 m3/h, respectively, and the percentage difference of these values by simulation was obtained for the angle of 30 degrees 11.7% and for the angle of 80°, about 7% per hour at an angle of 80°. Also, the coefficients of localized loss at different angles of test valve show that by increasing the angle of opening of the valve, the amount of localized loss decreases, so that the average value of 1515.2 in the angle of 30° reaches 1.9 at an angle of 80°. The percentage difference of these values by simulation, for the angle of 30° and 3.5% for the angle of 80°, was about 11.1%.
Originality/value
