Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to prove that narratives can be a adequate foundation for human behavior in general and economic behavior in particular using the Donald Duck universe as an example.
Design/methodology/approach
By using a content analysis, the authors examine 208 stories of the Donald Duck universe to prove that economic behavior is already embedded in modern narratives of the 20th century.
Findings
This analysis shows that behavioral finance effects are identified in a total of 52.4% of the analyzed comics. This study furthermore distinguishes the main comic characters Donald Duck and Scrooge McDuck and finds that eight of the nine considered behavioral finance biases can be detected in both. The most striking effect for Donald Duck is overconfidence and for Uncle Scrooge loss aversion.
Social implications
Collectively, these comics provide potential exemplars for behavioral finance. Regardless of whether these comics depict human nature or merely reflect human behavior during that time, they inevitably contribute to the understanding that psychological and sociological influences determine behavior in addition to economic factors that can be used for academic teaching.
Originality/value
In summary, comics, such as the Donald Duck universe, are suitable narratives for behavioral finance.

Purpose
Nurses work in a wide range of roles and settings, each with inherent stressors that can impact mental well-being. High levels of stress, burnout and clinical errors have been linked to the levels of support nurses have in their workplaces. Both consumers and health organisations benefit when nurses can engage in their work with support. Digital applications offer a promising option for supporting the mental well-being of nurses. This paper aims to provide analysis and synthesis of studies from the emerging field of research investigating the potential of digital applications to support the mental well-being of nurses.
Design/methodology/approach
An integrative literature review was conducted focused on studies published within the last ten years that employed digital applications specifically included to support nurses’ mental well-being. As part of the review inductive thematic analysis was then undertaken identifying four main themes diversity of digital applications; wide applicability across nursing; differing dimensions of well-being; and challenges to integration.
Findings
The study of digital applications used among nurses is a modern emerging field of research. Digital applications have considerable design variability and are being rolled out across multiple nursing specialities. They target differing aspects of mental well-being, offering promise despite the challenges to integration.
Originality/value
Digital applications are an emergent and promising option for supporting nurses' mental well-being. They have the potential to be personalised, cost-efficient and engaging platforms. The fast-paced technological advancement of digital applications will lead to the adoption of novel means of supporting nurses.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine how instructional leadership, a concept imported from Western scholarship, has been conceptualized in the Taiwanese context and how principal instructional leadership is realized in schools. The development trajectory of principal instructional leadership is delineated by examining empirical studies in the past two decades.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper adopts an exploratory approach to review the Taiwanese empirical literature on principal instructional leadership. A total of 80 studies were systematically analyzed and common themes were identified.
Findings
This paper finds that a hybrid model of the conceptualization of instructional leadership has been developed in Taiwan. Principals performed more indirect than direct leadership behaviors. A gap exists between the ideal instructional leader and the reality.
Research limitations/implications
The development of a formal theory of instructional leadership is expected as various substantive theories are developed and more data are accumulated. To yield the desired outcome of knowledge acceleration, the coordination of research efforts across scholars and institutions is a must.
Practical implications
The articles reviewed suggest less effort spent by principals on the teachers. Yet with a national promotion of teacher learning community, as well as cooperative and collaborative learning in recent years, principal instructional leadership behaviors are expected to rise in terms of ensuring instruction quality and professional development.
Originality/value
This paper is an attempt to accumulate knowledge about principal instructional leadership in Taiwan. It is a contribution to the exploration of indigenous perspectives and practices and the understanding and building of educational leadership in Asia.
