Abstract
Purpose
This paper intends to examine the antecedents of perceived creativity and flow experience in order to understand how consumers' advertisement keywords browsing influences their searching intentions and/or behaviours regarding purchase. In addition, it aims to consider two kinds of intentions in the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) to facilitate the translation of intentions into behaviour.
Design/methodology/approach
Research constructs were drawn from pre‐validated measurement items. An online survey was conducted at my3q.com. A total of 368 surveys were returned. The results were analysed using structural equation modelling with Smart PLS 2.0.
Findings
The results show that flow experience positively affects the users' attitude toward keyword searching, the intention to search keywords, controllability, and self‐efficacy. The antecedent belief of perceived creativity also positively influences the attitude toward keyword searching. The overall TPB model is effective in terms of predicting consumers' online keyword search behaviours; the intention to purchase a product especially affects a consumer's intention to search keywords online.
Practical implications
To attract consumers companies have to use combined marketing strategies to provide creative advertisements to make their products look appealing. Moreover, advertisements that are fun and make people feel curious would also be appealing and make the consumers feel that they are able or resourceful enough to find the keywords.
Originality/value
Two kinds of intentions – intention to purchase a product and intention to search keywords online – are simultaneously considered in this study. Moreover, the combination of flow theory, perceived creativity and TPB demonstrates an appropriate theoretical basis to examine consumers' online keyword search behaviours.

Abstract
The chapter analyses the anti-immigration political parties in the European Union (EU) as a challenge for the EU values such as human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, rule of law, and human rights. As the main constituents of the political groups in the European Parliament, the single elected body of the EU, the parties in the member states require a special scrutiny. In this context, the study aims at understanding and exposing how anti-immigration political parties in the EU discursively construct immigration as a threat. Taking into consideration their salient rise in the 2019 European election, it focuses on the discourses of the relevant parties delivered during the debates of the first half of the ninth (2019–2024) parliamentary term by using critical discourse analysis as its theoretical and methodological framework. The main argument of the study is that these political parties securitize immigration within three main discourse topics: immigration as a security threat, as an economic threat, and as a cultural threat.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to simplify a new frequency-independent model to calculate vertical vibration of rigid circular foundation resting on homogenous half-space and subjected to vertical harmonic excitation is presented in this paper.
Design/methodology/approach
The proposed model is an oscillator of single degree of freedom, which comprises a mass, a spring and a dashpot. In addition, a fictitious mass is added to the foundation. All coefficients are frequency-independent. The spring is equal to the static stiffness. Damping coefficient and fictitious mass are first calculated at resonance frequency where the response is maximal. Then, using a curve fitting technique the general formulas of damping and fictitious mass frequency-independent are established.
Findings
The validity of the proposed method is checked by comparing the predicted response with those obtained by the half-space theory. The dynamic responses of the new simplified model are also compared with those obtained by some existing lumped-parameter models.
Originality/value
Using this new method, to calculate the dynamic response of foundations, the engineer only needs the geometrical and mechanical characteristics of the foundation (mass and radius) and the soil (density, shear modulus and the Poisson’s ratio) using just a simple calculator. Impedance functions will no longer be needed in this new simplified method. The methodology used for the development of the new simplified model can be applied for the resolution of other problems in dynamics of soil and foundation (superficial and embedded foundations of arbitrary shape, other modes of vibration and foundations resting on non-homogeneous soil).

Abstract
Purpose
A newly developed frequency-independent lumped parameter model (LPM) is the purpose of the present paper. This new model’s direct outcome ensures high efficiency and a straightforward calculation of foundations’ vertical vibrations. A rigid circular foundation shape resting on a nonhomogeneous half-space subjected to a vertical time-harmonic excitation is considered.
Design/methodology/approach
A simple model representing the soil–foundation system consists of a single degree of freedom (SDOF) system incorporating a lumped mass linked to a frequency-independent spring and dashpot. Besides that, an additional fictitious mass is incorporated into the SDOF system. Several numerical methods and mathematical techniques are used to identify each SDOF’s parameter: (1) the vertical component of the static and dynamic foundation impedance function is calculated. This dynamic interaction problem is solved by using a formulation combining the boundary element method and the thin layer method, which allows the simulation of any complex nonhomogeneous half-space configuration. After, one determines the static stiffness’s expression of the circular foundation resting on a nonhomogeneous half-space. (2) The system’s parameters (dashpot coefficient and fictitious mass) are calculated at the resonance frequency; and (3) using a curve fitting technique, the general formulas of the frequency-independent dashpot coefficients and additional fictitious mass are established.
Findings
Comparisons with other results from a rigorous formulation were made to verify the developed model’s accuracy; these are exceptional cases of the more general problems that can be addressed (problems like shallow or embedded foundations of arbitrary shape, other vibration modes, etc.).
Originality/value
In this new LPM, the impedance functions will no longer be needed. The engineer only needs a limited number of input parameters (geometrical and mechanical characteristics of the foundation and the soil). Moreover, a simple calculator is required (i.e. we do not need any sophisticated software).

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to verify the differences of the influence of customer experience quality on brand equity, brand trustworthiness, perceived quality, perceived risk and purchase intention of franchise customers and non-franchise customers.
Design/methodology/approach
After developing two questionnaires, the authors collected 523 responses from Brazilian franchise users (Questionnaire 1) and 574 of non-franchise users (Questionnaire 2). The authors proceed to a confirmatory factor analysis, based on covariance (CB-SEM). In order to compare the results between franchises and non-franchises, the authors have performed a multi-group analysis with support of AMOS.
Findings
The results show that customer experience quality of the franchise customers tends to result in a better purchase intention, giving indications of better quality and brand trustworthiness when compared to non-franchises. This comparison shows indications of the competitive advantage of franchises over non-franchises, justifying the investments that market companies have been making in the development of the customer experience quality.
Originality/value
The research contributes to the understanding of the impact of the customer experience quality on brand equity, brand trustworthiness, perceived quality, perceived risk and purchase intention that directly affects the performance of the franchises, empirically investigating the customer experience quality in the context of franchises using the adapted EXQ scale. Complementarily, it is compared with non-franchises to observe the differences between them.

Purpose
In this digitalization age, smart technologies are on the cusp of changing all business sector including retailing. Today’s consumers desire to shop in a smart store where the physical products on display are connected to the internet world. This study aims to propose a model for investigating Generation Z (Gen-Z) consumers’ expectations towards the smart retail technology (SRT) in the Malaysian context through the application of the stimulus-organism-response framework.
Design/methodology/approach
By using a purposive sampling technique, a self-administered questionnaire was conducted. A total of 220 usable responses were collected from Gen-Z consumers who had experience in using SRT. The data were analysed using partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM).
Findings
This study underscores the role of perceived usefulness, perceived enjoyment and perceived value on Gen-Z consumers’ attitude and word-of-mouth (WOM). Expectations on usefulness, enjoyment and value provide some ideas on Gen-Z consumers’ value who put a high emphasis on functional value, fun value and value for money when adopting the SRT. On the other hand, the result also demonstrates the mediating role of consumers’ attitude in connecting perceived value and perceived enjoyment on WOM towards SRT.
Practical implications
The findings of this study provide beneficial insights for a retailer who desire to pursue a smart-related acquisition strategy. Retailers are recommended to embrace on the following three key features: innovative solution (high usefulness), reliable benefits (high perceived value) and fun experience (high enjoyment) to provide Gen-Z consumers with compelling experiences. Additionally, retailers are suggested to acknowledge the importance of managing consumers’ attitude in driving positive WOM evaluations.
Originality/value
This paper responds to Ting et al.’s (2018) call in uncovering values and lifestyles of generation in details. In Malaysia, retailers ought to incorporate of the high level of usefulness, value and enjoyment when designing their SRT to constitute the Gen-Z consumers’ expectations. Moreover, similar to Ting’s conclusion, this cohort members are very much into technologies and they tend to embrace SRT in their lifestyles.

Abstract
Purpose
One of the main causes of long-term prosthetic abandonment is the lack of ownership over the prosthesis, which was caused mainly by the absence of sensory information regarding the lost limb. The period where the patient learns how to interact with a prosthetic device is critical in rehabilitation. This ideally happens within the first months after amputation, which is also a period associated with the consolidation of brain changes. Different studies have shown that the introduction of feedback mechanisms can be crucial to bypass the lack of sensorial information. To develop a biofeedback system for the rehabilitation of transfemoral amputees – controlled via electromyographic (EMG) activity from the leg muscles – that can provide real-time visual and/or vibratory feedback for the user.
Design/methodology/approach
The system uses surface EMG to control two feedback mechanisms, which are the knee joint of a prosthetic leg of a humanoid avatar in a virtual reality (VR) environment (visual feedback) and a matrix of 16 vibrotactile actuators placed in the back of the user (vibratory feedback). Data acquisition was inside a Faraday Cage using an OpenEphys® acquisition board for the surface EMG recordings. The tasks were performed on able-bodied participants, with no amputation, and for this, the dominant leg of the user was immobilized using an orthopedic boot fixed on the chair, allowing only isometric contractions of target muscles, according to the Surface EMG for Non-Invasive Assessment of Muscles (SENIAM) standard. The authors test the effectiveness of combining vibratory and visual feedback and how task difficulty affects overall performance.
Findings
The authors' results show no negative interference combining both feedback modalities and that performance peaked at the intermediate difficulty. These results provide powerful insights of what can be accomplished with the population of amputee people. By using this biofeedback system, the authors expect to engage another sensory modality in the process of spatial representation of a virtual leg, bypassing the lack of information associated with the disruption of afferent pathways following amputation.
Research limitations/implications
The authors developed a showcase with a new protocol and feedback mechanisms showing the protocol's safety, efficiency and reliability. However, since this system is designed for patients with leg amputation, the full extent of the effects of the biofeedback training can only be assessed after the evaluation with the amputees, and the results obtained so far establish a safe and operational protocol to accomplish this.
Practical implications
In this study, the authors proposed a new biofeedback device intended to be used in the preprosthetic rehabilitation phase for people with transfemoral amputation. With this new system, the authors propose a mechanism to bypass the lack of sensory information from a virtual prosthesis and help to assimilate visual and vibrotactile stimuli as a cue for movement representation.

Originality/value
The authors' results show that all users were capable of recognizing both feedback modalities, both separate and combined, being able to respond accordingly throughout the tasks. The authors also show that for a one-session protocol, the last difficulty level imposed a greater challenge for most users, explained by the significant drop in performance disregarding the feedback modality. Lastly, the authors believe this paradigm can provide a better process for the embodiment of prosthetic devices, fulfilling the lack of sensory information for the users.

Purpose
Concerns regarding the implementation of interventions to address misinformation have been prominent in Hong Kong and other regions. This study aims to explore the factors that influence public support for digital platform regulation, media literacy education and legislation in the fight against misinformation.
Design/methodology/approach
This study utilized data from a nationally sampled survey in Hong Kong (N = 1,654) collected during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Findings
Perceptions of the direction in which misinformation is biased moderated the influence of the third-person perception on support for all three intervention types: digital platform regulation, media literacy education and legislation. As individuals differ in their focus on either penalizing those who spread misinformation or safeguarding themselves from potential consequences, varying strategies are favored. Media literacy education stands out as a preferred approach since it neither penalizes individuals nor restricts freedom of expression, offering a gentle form of intervention.
Practical implications
Governments may view media literacy education as a favorable intervention, as it garners support without infringing on free speech. Conversely, individuals advocating for more stringent measures, such as enforcement actions, may lean towards legislation rather than literacy education.
Originality/value
This research is unique in its simultaneous comparison and contrast of public support for three misinformation interventions. It underscores the significance of taking both third-person perceptions and perceptions of bias of misinformation into account when considering strategies to combat misinformation.

Purpose
Because of relatively short product life cycles, radical product innovation has more significant influences on firms' competitive advantages in dynamic environments. Past studies identified various cultural characteristics of a firm, which are key drivers of developing radical product innovation on an ongoing basis. However, few studies have investigated the interaction between organizational culture and external market feedback in developing radical product innovation.
Design/methodology/approach
To address the identified research gaps, this empirical research began by presenting conceptual foundations that lead to the hypothesized model and then analyzed survey data from 201 original equipment manufacturer suppliers in search of evidence supporting the hypotheses.
Findings
The results suggested that a supplier's entrepreneurial orientation and long-term orientation significantly and positively affected proactive market orientation, with proactive market orientation significantly and positively correlated with radical product innovation. The study confirmed that a proactive market orientation is essential in order for entrepreneurial orientation and long-term orientation to affect radical product innovation. Additionally, this study found that supplier–customer electronic integration has a moderating effect on proactive market orientation and radical product innovation.
Originality/value
Radical product innovation is a topic of great interest for both academia and industry, yet a comprehensive conceptual framework for its antecedents is still lacking. To fill this theoretical gap, the present study extended the studies on radical product innovation and examined the relationship between different strategic orientation types in terms of supplier–customer strategic behaviors to determine how suppliers enhance radical product innovation.
