Abstract

Purpose

Mexico is going through an accelerated increment of the older adults population, which added to the conditions of poverty, places them in a high degree of vulnerability. Bearing this in mind, the aim of this paper is to identify which categories or factors generate the perception of subjective well-being (SWB) in older adults in Mexico.

Design/methodology/approach

This qualitative study was carried out in four Mexican states: Mexico City, Tamaulipas, State of Mexico and Oaxaca. Each state presents different levels of social well-being. The study participants were selected using the snowball method. In total, 41 in-depth interviews were carried out, which were analyzed with a thematic analysis approach.

Findings

Results show that older people’s SWB is related to different elements like family bonds, having good physical and mental health, personal development and practicing religion.

Research limitations/implications

Results represent experiences only for people interviewed in the states in which interviews were conducted, not representing national scope. Future studies can expand the territorial scope to have a higher comprehension regarding SWB in older adults.

Originality/value

These findings have implications in the design of public policies and programs, for improving the delivery of social and economic services to older adults within the Mexican context.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to assess the relationship between environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy and sustainable performance, in addition to exploring the mediating role of green innovation in this connection. Moreover, age, size and membership in a Protected Designation of Origin are incorporated as control variables to increase the precision of the relationships examined.

Design/methodology/approach

A conceptual model was created to meet the intended research objectives and then validated using partial least squares structural equation modeling with primary data obtained from a survey administered to 196 Spanish wineries, which took place between September 2022 and January 2023.

Findings

The study findings indicate that the implementation of an ESG strategy has a positive and significant relationship with the sustainable performance of wineries. In addition, green product and process innovation appear to partially mediate this relationship.

Research limitations/implications

The sample size (196 wineries) limits the generalizability of the findings to the population under study, which suggests caution in their interpretation. In addition, the cross-sectional design of the study prevents from observing dynamic changes over time.

Originality/value

This research significantly advances the understanding of ESG strategy through a holistic view of its relationship with the sustainable performance of the wine industry. Indeed, it fills a critical gap in the academic literature, as ESG strategy has been scarcely explored in the wine industry setting, despite the specific environmental and social challenges faced by this sector. Furthermore, it pioneers the investigation of green innovation as a mediating factor in the relationship between ESG strategy and sustainable winery performance, providing new findings that can shape strategic management practices in the wine sector.

Abstract

Purpose

Rectangular conductors play an important role in planar transmission line structures, multiconductor transmission lines, in power transmission and distribution systems, LCL filters, transformers, industrial busbars, MEMs devices, among many others. The precise determination of the inductance of such conductors is necessary for their design and optimization, but no explicit solution for the AC resistance and internal inductances per-unit length of a linear conductor with a rectangular cross-section has been found, so numerical methods must be used. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the use of a novel numerical technique, the proper generalized decomposition (PGD), for the calculation of DC and AC internal inductances of rectangular conductors.

Design/methodology/approach

The PGD approach is used to obtain numerically the internal inductance of a conductor with circular cross-section and with rectangular cross-section, both under DC and AC conditions, using a separated representation of the magnetic vector potential in a 2D domain. The results are compared with the analytical and approximate expressions available in the technical literature, with an excellent concordance.

Findings

The PGD uses simple one-dimensional meshes, one per dimension, so the use of computational resources is very low, and the simulation speed is very high. Besides, the application of the PGD to conductors with rectangular cross-section is particularly advantageous, because rectangular shapes can be represented with a very few number of independent terms, which makes the code very simple and compact. Finally, a key advantage of the PGD is that some parameters of the numerical model can be considered as additional dimensions. In this paper, the frequency has been considered as an additional dimension, and the internal inductance of a rectangular conductor has been computed for the whole range of frequencies desired using a single numerical simulation.

Research limitations/implications

The proposed approach may be applied to the optimization of electrical conductors used in power systems, to solve EMC problems, to the evaluation of partial inductances of wires, etc. Nevertheless, it cannot be applied, as presented in this work, to 3D complex shapes, as, for example, an arrangement of layers of helically stranded wires.

Originality/value

The PGD is a promising new numerical procedure that has been applied successfully in different fields. In this paper, this novel technique is applied to find the DC and AC internal inductance of a conductor with rectangular cross-section, using very dense and large one-dimensional meshes. The proposed method requires very limited memory resources, is very fast, can be programmed using a very simple code, and gives the value of the AC inductance for a complete range of frequencies in a single simulation. The proposed approach can be extended to arbitrary conductor shapes and complex multiconductor lines to further exploit the advantages of the PGD.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to describe numerical investigations focused on the reduction of separation and the aerodynamic enhancement of wind turbine blades by a rod vortex generator (RVG).

Design/methodology/approach

A flow modelling approach through the use of a Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes solver is used. The numerical tools are validated with experimental data for the NREL Phase VI rotor and the S809 aerofoil. The effect of rod vortex generator’s (RVG) configuration on aerofoil aerodynamic performance, flow structure and separation is analysed. RVGs’ chordwise locations and spanwise distance are considered, and the optimum configuration of the RVG is applied to the wind turbine rotor.

Findings

Results show that streamwise vortices created by RVGs lead to modification of flow structure in boundary layer. As a result, the implementation of RVGs on aerofoil has proven to decrease the flow separation and enhance the aerodynamic performance of aerofoils. The effect on flow structure and aerodynamic performance has shown to be dependent on dimensions, chordwise location and spanwise distribution of rods. The implementation of devices with the optimum configuration has shown to increase aerodynamic performance and to significantly reduce separation for selected conditions. Application of rods to the wind turbine rotor has proven to avoid the spanwise penetration of flow separation where applied, leading to reduction of flow separation and to aerodynamic enhancement.

Originality/value

The proposed RVGs have shown potential to enhance the aerodynamic performance of wind turbine rotors and profiles, making devices an alternative solution to the classical vortex generators for wind turbine applications.

Abstract

The present study seeks to assess the effect of Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) on the Sustainable Performance (SP) of wineries as well as to explore the mediating role of Green Innovation (GI) in this respect. In addition, age, size and Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) membership are incorporated as control variables to increase the precision of the cause-effect relationships examined.

Design/methodology/approach

A conceptual model was created in order to fulfill the targeted research goals and then validated through PLS-SEM with primary data obtained from a survey administered to 196 Spanish wineries, taking place between September 2022 and January 2023.

Findings

The study findings indicate that GHRM has a positive and significant impact on the SP of wineries. In addition, GI appears to partially mediate this relationship.

Originality/value

This study is justified by various grounds for its originality. First, there is a lack of prior research examining the impact of GHRM practices in the wine industry, making this study a unique opportunity to explore and leverage existing knowledge in the fields of environmental management and human resources in order to generate new insights on the topic. Second, the academic literature analyzing this particular construct is scarce, underscoring the aim of this research to contribute to the accumulation of relevant knowledge in this area. Third, GHRM serves to elucidate the mechanisms through which valuable personnel can be attracted and retained in wineries within the post-COVID context.

This study aims to focus on analysing the impact of green human resource management (GHRM) on the green performance (GP) of Spanish wineries, as well as the mediating effect of employee well-being (EW) on this linkage. In addition, age, size and membership in a protected designation of origin are introduced as control variables to increase the precision of the cause-effect relationships examined.

Design/methodology/approach

The study proposes a conceptual model based on previous studies, which is tested using structural equations partial least squares structural equation modelling with data collected from 196 Spanish wineries between September 2022 and January 2023.

Findings

The findings of the research reveal the existence of a positive and significant relationship between the GHRM development and the GP of Spanish wineries, as well as the partial mediation of EW in this association.

Originality/value

The uniqueness and significance of this study can be attributed to several crucial factors. First, it enhances the understanding and knowledge regarding the advantages associated with GHRM development. Second, no prior research has conducted a comprehensive study on GHRM as a catalyst for GP within the context of Spanish wineries. Third, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, no previous study has analyzed the mediating role of EW as a mediator in the relationship between GHRM and GP of wineries.

Abstract

Purpose

This research aims to explore the influence of the wine tourism development on the sustainable competitive advantage of Spanish wineries as well as the role of employee well-being and organizational commitment on this main relationship.

Design/methodology/approach

This research formulates a theoretical model and then examines it through structural equation modeling. The analysis is based on data collected from 196 wineries in Spain, compiled during the period from September 2022 to January 2023.

Findings

The results of this study show a positive and significant effect between the wine tourism development and the sustainable competitive advantage of wineries in Spain as well as the mediating role of employee well-being and organizational commitment in this main connection.

Practical implications

Based on the study’s findings, winery managers are advised to develop wine tourism strategies that include guided tours emphasizing sustainability, curated food and wine experiences, cultural activities and specialized employee training programs to improve service quality, strengthen organizational commitment, and eventually achieve a sustainable competitive advantage.

Originality/value

The distinctiveness of this research stems from various key aspects: first, it enhances insight into the benefits linked to the wine tourism research field; second, this is the inaugural study to explore wine tourism development as a driving force for sustainable competitive advantage within Spanish wineries and; third, prior studies have not concurrently examined the functions of employee well-being and organizational commitment in mediating the connection between wine tourism development and the wineries’ sustainable competitive advantage.

This research focuses on analyzing the impact of digital transformation (DT) on the green innovation performance of Spanish wineries, as well as the mediating effect of green knowledge sharing (GKS) on this main relationship, as well as the moderating role of top management environmental awareness (TMEA) on the GKS-green innovation performance linkage. In addition, age, size and protected designation of origin (PDO) membership are used to increase the precision of the cause–effect relationships examined.

Design/methodology/approach

The study proposes a conceptual model based on previous studies, which is tested using partial least squares structural equation modeling, with data collected from 196 Spanish wineries between September 2022 and January 2023.

Findings

The results of the research reveal the existence of a positive and significant relationship between the development of DT and green innovation performance of Spanish wineries, as well as the partial mediation of GKS in this link and a positive moderation of TMEA in the GKS-green innovation performance bond.

Practical implications

Winery executives should prioritize aligning DT with TMEA to drive green innovation performance. Additionally, it is recommended that they actively promote GKS within their wineries to enhance sustainability performance and strengthen their competitive positioning in an eco-conscious market.

Originality/value

The originality of the study derives from its pioneering character, as the research enters unexplored terrain by investigating the role of the GKS as a mediator in the relationship between DT and green innovation performance, as no previous research has ventured in this direction.

Findings

The results of the research reveal the existence of a positive and significant relationship between the development of GSCM and SP of Spanish wineries, as well as the partial mediation of GAI and the positive moderation of TMEA in this linkage.

Originality/value

The novelty of this study lies in its exploratory approach, as it ventures into new research territory by examining the mediating effect of GAI and the moderating influence of TMEA on the relationship between GSCM and SP, being, to the authors' knowledge, the first research to investigate these specific dynamics.

Abstract

Purpose

The main objective of this research is to analyze the dynamics of academic research on digital entrepreneurship and innovation, unveiling the main research trends developed in the last decade.

Design/methodology/approach

The analysis has been carried out using a dual methodological approach comprising bibliometric methods and an innovative three-level systematic review, involving the analysis of the most used keywords, the co-occurrence network of keywords and a traditional review of the abstracts of the 1713 peer-reviewed articles that make up the database under study, with the aim of revealing and discussing the most important research trends developed in the period analyzed.

Findings

The results reveal seven major research trends that underscore the fundamental role of digital platforms in democratizing innovation, enabling a more inclusive and collaborative environment wherein startups, established firms, academia and government entities converge to drive technological advancements and societal progress. Additionally, the pressing need for a holistic understanding of digital technologies' potential to spur economic growth, societal progress and sustainable development is highlighted, as well as the challenges posed by privacy, security and the digital divide.

Originality/value

This research has been developed using an innovative methodology, and contributes to the academic discourse by providing a comprehensive overview of the current state and prospects of digital entrepreneurship and innovation for policymakers, entrepreneurs and researchers, urging a collaborative effort to harness the benefits of digital transformation in an equitable and responsible manner, fostering an environment of innovation that is conducive to the sustainable growth of the digital economy.
