Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to report on the developments in manufacturing soft magnetic materials using laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF).
Design/methodology/approach
Ternary soft magnetic Fe-49Co-2V powder was produced by gas atomization and used in an L-PBF machine to produce samples for material characterization. The L-PBF process parameters were optimized for the material, using a design of experiments approach. The printed samples were exposed to different heat treatment cycles to improve the magnetic properties. The magnetic properties were measured with quasi-static direct current and alternating current measurements at different frequencies and magnetic flux densities. The mechanical properties were characterized with tensile tests. Electrical resistivity of the material was measured.
Findings
The optimized L-PBF process parameters resulted in very low porosity. The magnetic properties improved greatly after the heat treatments because of changes in microstructure. Based on the quasi-static DC measurement results, one of the heat treatment cycles led to magnetic saturation, permeability and coercivity values comparable to a commercial Fe-Co-V alloy. The other heat treatments resulted in abnormal grain growth and poor magnetic performance. The AC measurement results showed that the magnetic losses were relatively high in the samples owing to formation of eddy currents.
Research limitations/implications
The influence of L-PBF process parameters on the microstructure was not investigated; hence, understanding the relationship between process parameters, heat treatments and magnetic properties would require more research.
Originality/value
The relationship between microstructure, chemical composition, heat treatments, resistivity and magnetic/mechanical properties of L-PBF processed Fe-Co-V alloy has not been reported previously.

Abstract
Purpose
The authors aim to search for a practical and accurate way to get good loss estimates for coil filaments in electrical machines, for example transformers. At the moment including loss estimations into standard finite element computations is prohibitively expensive for large coils.
Design/methodology/approach
A low-dimensional function space for finite element method (FEM) is introduced on the filament-air interface and then extended into the filament to significantly reduce the number of unknowns per filament. Careful choice of these extensions enables good loss estimate accuracy. The result is a system matrix assembly block that can be used verbatim for all filaments, further reducing the cost. Both net current and voltage per length of the filament are readily available in the problem formulation.
Findings
The loss estimates from the developed model agree well with traditional FEM and the computation times are faster.
Originality/value
To produce accurate loss estimates in large coils, the low-dimensional function space is constricted on the filament boundaries. The proposed method enables electrical engineers to compute the ohmic losses of individual conductors.

Purpose
This study aims to synthesize the body of sustainable value creation (SVC) research within sustainable business model literature through a systematic literature review.
Design/methodology/approach
A systematic literature review of 85 research articles of SVC through business models from 2011 to 2020.
Findings
The systematic literature review allowed the authors to identify five core SVC elements: value forms, stakeholders, temporal view, spatial view and tensions and conflicts. Moreover, a conceptual framework presenting the interrelationships of the SVC elements is proposed.
Practical implications
This study carries implications for practitioners in the form of guiding questions provided in the framework. Those questions help responsible managers to plan, identify and choose strategic sustainability actions and to develop companies’ business models aiming to lead to the creation of long-term sustainable value in different time frames and locations or different parts of the value network. Additionally, the framework guides managers to identify and manage potential tensions and conflicts which can otherwise hinder SVC.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is the first systematic literature review of SVC through business models with the conceptual development of SVC. The study synthesizes the fragmented literature to identify SVC elements and build basis for conceptualization of SVC through business models.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to probe experiences of entrepreneurs in the social and health care service provision.
Design/methodology/approach
Information was collected regarding entrepreneurs’ views on the factors affecting the collaboration between public and private sectors. A sample of social and health care entrepreneurs was interviewed using open-ended questions. The interviews were transcribed and analysed using inductive content analysis.
Findings
Three main categories of factors affecting the success of partnership were identified: the nature of partnership, business aspects and tension builders.
Research limitations/implications
The research was undertaken in rural Finland and the sample consisted 13 entrepreneurs. The results must be considered as observations with more generalised conclusions.
Practical implications
The results of this study support municipalities in their social and health care service strategy work and especially in consideration of how to also facilitate a fruitful public-private partnership (PPP)-framework, which will largely depend on mutual understanding and consensus.
Originality/value
The reform of the social and health care system has raised intensive public debate throughout Europe. Key issues include the reorganising of social and health care processes as well as PPPs in provision of services. This study observes the views and experiences of private entrepreneurs and points out where some potential problems and solutions of social and health care PPPs are.
