Abstract

To provide the organisational capacity to adopt information technology (IT) successfully, a partnership between technology and business managers must be established. A constructive dialogue between the two domains is necessary to develop a viable long‐range strategic business plan. The implementation of IT not only is a technological problem, it also requires significant changes in the business culture.

Abstract

‘In the schools, you have to go a long way to find something really lively in environmental studies,’ says Colin Ward. He should know. He is the education officer of the Town and Country Planning Association unit, and in this position was given his head to produce the kind of magazine to propagate environmental education that he thought fit. Together with his assistant editor Anthony Fyson, he is responsible for BEE, by far the liveliest publication in its field. BEE is the Bulletin of Environmental Education and it differs — in one respect particularly — from most other journals with the same concern.

Abstract

Alcohol sponsorship of sport is common in Australia, with much debate about the appropriateness of linking sport with alcohol advertising and promotion. This paper provides examples of such sponsorships to appreciate the extent and nature of the complex relationship between sport and alcohol sponsors. The public health and policy implications of alcohol sponsorship of sport extending to creating a sporting competition purely to promote an alcohol brand are considered.

Abstract

Case overview/synopsis

This case study is about Sushant, an entrepreneur, who started his entrepreneurial venture in water sports tourism along the coastlines of India. His core business was into offering kayaking and camping activities. However, he planned to scale up his business by expanding its geographical reach. To fulfill this, he was also planning to manufacture his own kayaks, which would increase economies of scale in the long run. This case study investigates the dilemma of whether he should first increase his service offerings before expanding geographically or focus on geographical expansion and then increase service offerings.
