Abstract

The authors describe two new products of the Czechoslovak chemical industry and their properties, namely KRNB conservation wax and paper with SVIK vaporising inhibitor. Both materials have been developed at the State Research institute for the Protection of Material, have been thoroughly tested, and are now in production. Instructions are given for the use of both media, and an indication is given of the sphere of applications, in which they have advantages over all other present methods of temporary protection of metal products.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to prepare trivalent chromium conversion (TCC) film on the Zn-Ni electrodeposited film on the surface of 2024 aluminum alloy and to ensure that the TCC film has good corrosion resistance and electrical conductivity.

Design/methodology/approach

The morphology of the TCC film was studied by scanning electron microscopy, and the elemental composition of the TCC film was characterized by X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy. The TCC film was tested and the roughness was analyzed by 3D morphology (white light interference). The electrochemical behavior and corrosion resistance of TCC films were studied by the Tafel polarization curve and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and the conductivity was tested.

Findings

The TCC films were uniformly black and bright in appearance and were mainly compounds of Zn, Ni and Cr with O. The electrochemical impedance of the TCC film is larger than that of the Zn-Ni film, the corrosion current (Icorr) is smaller than that of the Zn-Ni film and the corrosion potential (Ecorr) is larger than that of the Zn-Ni film, which has excellent corrosion resistance. TCCs were performed on the appropriate size of the shell sample, and the resistance of the shells was 1.5 mVDC, which meets the total resistance requirements of the test standard for composite connector accessories.

Originality/value

In this study, TCC film was successfully prepared on the Zn-Ni coating on the surface of 2024 aluminum alloy. The TCC film has good corrosion resistance and electrical conductivity.

Abstract

Purpose

To provide a selective bibliography for graduate students and new faculty members with sources which can help them develop their academic career.

Design/methodology/approach

A range of published (1951‐2004) works, which aim to discuss the main parameters of the volatile corrosion inhibition process. The sources are sorted into sections: transport of the volatile corrosion inhibitor (VCI) to the metallic surface, vapour pressure of a VCI, dependence of vapour pressure upon temperature, effect of pH on VCI behaviour, formation and destruction of adsorbed films, and volatile corrosion inhibitor monitors (VCIM).

Findings

Provides information about each source, indicating what can be found there and how the information can help. Recognises the lack of real training of many academics before they are expected to take on teaching/researching duties and finds some texts which help.

Research limitations/implications

It is not an exhaustive list and apart from several UK and US books all the rest are EU and US publications which perhaps limits its usefulness elsewhere.

Practical implications

A very useful list of the most common compounds used as VCIs is reported.

Originality/value

This paper fulfils an identified information/resources need and offers practical help to an individual starting out on and academic career and to professional with some experience on corrosion inhibition.

Abstract

Like aqueous corrosion of metals, atmospheric corrosion of metallic articles has also been a matter of great anxiety due to the individual and joint action of oxygen, humidity and various types of pollution gases and ions in the atmospheres. As there is no limit of oxygen availability in the open atmosphere, this type of corrosion of metals is mainly controlled by humidity. In industrial mines and marine environments, however, metal attack is controlled by aggressive gases, ions and chloride ions respectively.

Abstract

Purpose

The wine market has witnessed intensified competition across all aspects. However, there is a limited systematic assessment of wine marketing literature. This study employs bibliometric and thematic content evaluation methodologies to present a comprehensive summary and trend of the existing research in wine marketing.

Design/methodology/approach

This integrates bibliometric and thematic content analytical techniques to trace the evolutionary arc of wine marketing research, underpinned by a framework-based evaluation - the 4 Ws (what, where, why, and how) to give a thorough overview of wine marketing literature. We draw on the thematic structure of wine marketing research by conducting keyword co-occurrence, thematic, social network, and cluster-based content analyses. A total of 291 publications from peer-reviewed journals, spanning the years 2001–2023, were examined in the present study.

Findings

The bibliometric analysis is used to determine the most notable journals, authors, nations, articles, and themes, thereby offering a comprehensive understanding of the publication trends within the sphere of wine marketing. Based on the findings, this study advocates a research agenda to extend further contributions to the field of wine marketing.

Originality/value

The study performs a comprehensive analysis of the publication patterns, influential authors, and emerging trends within the wine marketing research field. It provides a unique insight into the evolution and development of wine marketing as a scholarly discipline, facilitating future research directions and knowledge advancement.

Abstract

Purpose

The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between employee perceived internal corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices and pharmaceutical firms' performance with the mediating role of employee intrapreneurial behaviour.

Design/methodology/approach

The study sample consisted of 607 employees at pharmaceutical firms in Ho Chi Minh City of Vietnam. The data was analysed by a structural equation modelling (SEM).

Findings

The results revealed that the model fitted well into the empirical data considering the goodness-of-fit measures. The estimates results revealed the significant total effects of employee perception of internal CSR practices on pharmaceutical firms' performances through the influencing mechanism of employee intrapreneurial behaviour.

Practical implications

Employee welfare is a fundamental factor for organisational performance. Ethical organisations might yield prosperity through innovation employee behaviour. Firms should build the structure and mechanism to implement internal CSR and support the commitment of intrapreneurship.

Originality/value

The study investigates how employees respond to internal CSR practices and contribute to firm performance through employee intrapreneurial behaviour.

Abstract

Purpose

Violence against paramedics is a complex – but underreported – problem. Extant research suggests organizational culture may play a role in sustaining cultural norms that downplay the significance and limit reporting. The purpose of this paper is to qualitatively explore paramedics’ experience with violence, with particular emphasis on understanding how organizational culture contributes to under-reporting.

Design/methodology/approach

The authors surveyed paramedics from a single, large, urban service in Ontario, Canada, asking participants to describe their experiences with violence, including whether – and why or why not – the incidents were reported. Within a constructivist epistemology, we used inductive thematic analysis with successive rounds of coding to identify and then define features of organizational culture that limit reporting.

Findings

A total of 196 (33% of eligible) paramedics completed the survey. Fully 98% of participants disclosed having experienced some form of violence; however, only a minority (40%) reported the incidents to management, or the police (21%). The authors defined a framework within which a lack of support from management, and consequences for offenders, implicitly positions the ability of paramedics to “brush off” violent encounters as an expected professional competency. Disclosing emotional or psychological distress in response to violent encounters invited questions as to whether the individual is personally suited to paramedic work.

Originality/value

While the extant research has indicated that underreporting is a problem, the findings shed light on why – a critical first step in addressing what has been described as a serious public health problem.

Abstract

The residential real estate market represents the entire complex of economic and social relations at the macroeconomic and microeconomic levels. This publication aims to evaluate developments in the field of financing and the development of the residential real estate market in Slovakia, with a special focus on the determinants affecting the demand, supply, and prices of residential real estate in Slovakia and Bratislava. Owner-occupied housing is the dominant type of housing and has a significant impact on the development of housing issues. Research into the issue of multiple ownership of real estate provides answers to questions about the growth of real estate prices in the conditions of Bratislava. The influence of financial indicators, especially interest rates, the availability of housing loans, and the regulation of the banking sector explain the essential connections in the area of the development of residential real estate prices and factors of their development. The analysis points to the need for the development of rental housing in Slovakia.
