This study aims to analyze the concept of Zakat as an instrument to increase the economy and poverty eradication in Indonesia.
Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to analyze the concept of Zakat as an instrument to increase the economy and poverty eradication in Indonesia.
Design/methodology/approach
This study used a qualitative method based on library research sourced from books, financial reports and another previous research.
Findings
The results show that the empowerment programs conducted by Zakat institutions in Indonesia are based on the scale of priorities and the potential of Mustahik. Zakat management considers the level of productivity and long-term impacts that improve Mustahik Economy. Thus, the empowerment programs lead to the reduction of Mustahik living below poverty line.
Research limitations/implications
This study contributes in two ways: first, it analyzes a model to identify the Mustahik’s potential for the Zakat institution in Indonesia. Second, it encourages the awareness of Muzakki and Mustahik regarding the role of Zakat in the Indonesian economy. This is expected to prompt their level of participation in optimizing the potential of Zakat in Indonesia.
Originality/value
Given the scarce literature that provide qualitative and critical reviews of the implementation Zakat empowerment programs to alleviate poverty conducted by the Zakat institutions in Indonesia, this research can act as a bridge for future research in performing empirical studies regarding the impact of a Zakat empowerment program on society.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to identify factors affecting attitudes towards social media influencers (SMI) on halal cosmetics products. It subsequently examines how the latter stimulates consumers’ attitudes towards purchase intentions of halal cosmetics moderated by religiosity.
Design/methodology/approach
This study uses a survey of samples of Muslim cosmetic consumers in Indonesia. In total, 234 respondents were selected using the purposive sampling method; a self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data from respondents. The survey data were analysed using partial least squares for structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) to achieve the study’s objectives.
Findings
The findings revealed that trust, perceived expertise and perceived behavioural control positively and significantly affect attitudes towards SMI. However, the relationship between perceived credibility, subjective norm and attitude towards SMI is insignificant. In addition, the findings revealed that attitude towards SMI has a positive effect on explaining purchase intention. Notably, religiosity does not moderate attitudes towards SMI and purchase intention.
Practical implications
This study provides guidelines for companies in understanding the influence of religiosity on consumption behaviour in SMI marketing era. Thus, it will enable marketers to identify the factors influencing customers’ attitudes towards SMI and develop marketing strategies that effectively increase the customers’ intentions to purchase halal cosmetics. This will result in Indonesia becoming the epicentre of the global halal industry, particularly in the cosmetic sector.
Originality/value
This research provides a novel perspective by investigating how SMI shapes the purchase intention of Muslim consumers on halal cosmetics.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to identify the significant scientific actors, reveal the intellectual structure and explore essential features for future research direction in Sharia governance studies.
Design/methodology/approach
The study applies a hybrid review combining bibliometric analysis and content analysis. It uses Rstudio (biblioshiny), VOSviewer and Microsoft Excel to analyze 457 articles published in 206 journals indexed by Scopus and/or Web of Science during the period of 1985 until the end of 2022.
Findings
The paper discovered four distinct streams of Sharia governance studies: structure of Sharia governance, Sharia governance and risk management, Sharia governance and sustainability and the effect of Sharia governance toward firm’s financial performance. Furthermore, it derives and summarizes 26 main research questions for future studies.
Research limitations/implications
In terms of theoretical implications, the finding contributes to the general literature on Sharia governance by conducting bibliometric analysis and content analysis. In terms of practical implications, this study suggests that Sharia governance should be strengthened by the management of Islamic banks and other Islamic-based businesses.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is among the early studies using a hybrid review on the topic of Sharia governance, allowing future researchers in this field to capture the trends and progress of current literature as well as the research gaps to be filled in by future researchers.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to explore a theoretical model using the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology framework by adding Islamic compliance (IC) and security assurance to build antecedents of intention to use Islamic internet-only banks (IIOBs) in Muslim youth.
Design/methodology/approach
This study involved 262 Muslim youths from several Islamic communities in Indonesia. The analysis was conducted using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). Moreover, PLS techniques such as the variance accounted for (VAF) were used to verify the statistical analysis of findings.
Findings
The findings show that effort expectancy (EE) and online social influences (OSI) strongly correlate with the intention to use IIOBs. In addition, user reviews (online reviews) are proven to form a solid social influence and impact consumer decision-making. Finally, IC and security assurance are still critical factors in the IIOBs acceptance.
Practical implications
Practically, IIOB providers need to strengthen information about performance, accessibility, security and benefits when running service applications. Providers must show their strengths and advantages compared to the traditional banks in various service lines. Besides, providers are expected to be more careful regarding IC applications in their products and services.
Originality/value
This study considers the effects of OSI, EE, security and IC as the unique characteristics of Muslim youth in using the IIOBs. In particular, the significance of IC and OSIs provides a valid picture of the pathways of acceptance creation towards IIOBs.
