Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to analyze the relationship of work spirituality, organizational commitment and performance of rural credit institution (Lembaga Perkreditan Desa [LPD]) administrators.

Design/methodology/approach

To obtain the data, the researcher uses the interview and questionnaire techniques. The questionnaire is used as the research instrument whose validity and reliability have been tested. This study uses the quantitative approach. The analysis technique used is the path analysis. The significance level of the mediation role is analyzed by using Sobel test.

Findings

The work spirituality is proven to give a positive and significant effect to the performance of administrator and organizational commitment. It can be summarized that the higher the work spirituality, the better the performance at work and the higher organizational commitment. The organizational commitment also gives a positive and significant effect to the LPD administrator’s performance. The organizational commitment is proven to be the partial mediator variable for the relationship between the work spirituality and work performance of LPD administrator.

Research limitations/implications

First, LPD as the druwe institution or owned by the traditional village has to be directed to the attempt of improving the standard of living of Krama Desa Adat and supporting the development of the traditional village. Second, it is important for LPD to be run by the human resource with high work spirituality; thus, it can positively affect their commitment to the organization and improve their performance at work.

Originality/value

The originality of this study is the finding of various empirical studies that have not been explained in an integrated way about the relationship between the work spirituality and organizational commitment, as well as the individual performance. Therefore, this study analyzes further about the relationship among them. In the previous study, there are many researchers who analyze the industry, but few do it in the local wisdom-based organizations such as LPDs that are developing rapidly in Bali.

Abstract

Purpose

This study seeks to examine the mediating role of innovative work behavior (IWB) in the relationship between entrepreneurial leadership (EL) and employee performance.

Design/methodology/approach

The study adopted the cross-sectional research design of quantitative approach where data were collected from 344 employees in Ghana’s food and beverages industry. The retrieved data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics (partial least squares structural equation modeling).

Findings

Mainly, the study revealed that IWB positively and significantly mediated the relationship between EL and contextual and task performance (TP). The study found that EL has a significant positive relationship with task and contextual performance (CP). This indicates that leaders who demonstrate entrepreneurial qualities, such as innovation, proactiveness and risk-taking, are likely to enhance their team’s ability to complete specific tasks effectively (TP) and contribute positively to the broader organizational environment (CP).

Practical implications

Practically, organizations that prioritize EL qualities among managers and supervisors in the form of providing training programs, coaching and mentorship opportunities that emphasize innovation, risk-taking and pro-activeness in decision-making significantly influence their employee performance.

Originality/value

The originality and value of this study lie in its comprehensive exploration of the relationship between EL, IWB and performance outcomes.

Abstract

Purpose

Innovation has become a necessity for the information technology (IT) sector, especially during COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, this study aims to investigate how knowledge sharing affects employees’ innovative work behavior (IWB). Specifically, the study examined occupational self-efficacy (as mediating mechanism) and entrepreneurial leadership (as boundary condition) to encourage IWB.

Design/methodology/approach

The study used social media platforms to collect data from 270 employees working in the IT sector through “google forms” on convenience basis between March and August, 2021. The study applied structural equation modeling in two stages to examine the measurement model (for uni-dimensionality) and the structural model (for hypotheses testing).

Findings

The study noted that knowledge sharing positively affects employees’ IWB and occupational self-efficacy positively explains this association. In addition, employees’ perception of entrepreneurial leadership strengthens the association between knowledge sharing and IWB.

Research limitations/implications

The study collected data from a developing country during COVID-19 by using a cross-sectional design that may restrict causality. However, the findings suggest the management not only encourages knowledge sharing environment but also engages employees in various training that motivate them to experiment with new ideas and techniques.

Originality/value

This study extends the existing literature on knowledge sharing and IWB by exploring occupational self-efficacy as mediating mechanism and entrepreneurial leadership as a boundary condition.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of entrepreneurial orientation and total quality management on quality performance of pharmaceutical manufacturers in Pakistan. It also investigates the mediating role played by total quality management in the EO-QP relationship.

Design/methodology/approach

A structured questionnaire was used to collect data from 115 pharmaceutical manufacturers in Pakistan. Partial least squares structural equation modeling was used to analyze data.

Findings

The results show entrepreneurial orientation that and total quality management positively and significantly affect quality performance. Moreover, the effect of entrepreneurial orientation on quality performance is partially mediated by total quality management.

Research limitations/implications

The study uses cross-sectional data. Therefore, the long-term effect of entrepreneurial orientation and total quality management on quality performance could not be determined. Moreover, quality performance has been measured based on perceptual data, which may be prone to biases, entrepreneurial orientation (EO), quality performance (QP), total quality management (TQM).

Originality/value

The study is unique in providing empirical evidence linking entrepreneurial orientation with quality performance through the mediating role of total quality management. Quality performance is vital in the pharmaceutical industry; thus, the study makes a valuable contribution by identifying a new mechanism to achieve it. Moreover, although both entrepreneurial orientation and total quality management are very important, only a few studies have so far investigated their interrelationship. By providing evidence from a new cultural and industrial context, the study makes a valuable contribution to an under-researched yet important area.

Abstract

Purpose

This study delves into the significant impact of entrepreneurial leadership (EL), organizational innovation (OI) and competitive advantage (CA) on the sustainability of organizations in the Jordanian Islamic insurance sector. This study aims to unravel the intricate dynamics among these pivotal factors, highlighting their collective role in the sustained success and resilience of Islamic insurance companies in Jordan. By examining the synergistic interplay between EL, OI and CA, the research seeks to offer invaluable insights into cultivating a sustainable future for these institutions.

Design/methodology/approach

This study adopts a positivist, quantitative approach to investigate the relationships between EL, OI, CA and organizational sustainability (OS). Data collection was achieved through questionnaires in a cross-sectional analysis of these variables. Convenience sampling yielded 389 valid responses, an 81% response rate, ensuring a thorough understanding of the dynamics within this framework.

Findings

The findings from the study on Jordanian Islamic insurance companies highlight the critical role of EL in influencing organizational dynamics. The research establishes a positive relationship between EL and both OI and OS. Furthermore, it identifies a significant positive correlation between EL and CA, underscoring the importance of leadership in securing a competitive edge. This study also emphasizes the vital role of OI in bolstering OS and confirms that a strong CA enhances OS, reinforcing the interconnectivity of these essential organizational components.

Practical implications

This study provides important insights for professionals in the insurance sector, especially those within the Jordanian Islamic insurance industry. It emphasizes the crucial role of EL in fostering innovation, competitiveness and sustainability. By understanding the significance of EL, companies can adopt more dynamic and effective strategies in leadership, organizational development and strategic planning, thereby enhancing their overall performance and resilience.

Originality/value

By conceptualizing EL and OS as second-order constructs, this study seeks to provide a detailed understanding of how EL catalyzes OI, CA and sustainability in an organizational context. This approach contributes significantly to the broader discussion on EL and OS, particularly within the Arab region and specifically in Jordan, offering nuanced insights into their roles and interrelations in shaping organizational dynamics.

Abstract

Purpose

The primary objective of the study is to explore and elucidate the relationship between spirituality and workplace performance. This study aims to fill a gap in the existing literature by presenting a theoretical–methodological framework that incorporates various aspects and research propositions, differentiating them based on specific mediating variables.

Design/methodology/approach

This research uses a systematic literature review methodology, analyzing 95 articles published over 20 years (2002–2022). This approach is designed to collate and synthesize evidence supporting the proposed relationship between spirituality and workplace performance and to understand the nuances of spirituality’s influence on performance.

Findings

The systematic review reveals recurring mediating constructs and various established theoretical–empirical relationships between spirituality and workplace performance throughout the study period. It highlights the significant role of spirituality in enhancing worker well-being, engagement and productivity.

Social implications

This study addresses the impacts on societal views of work, employee well-being and organizational culture, especially considering the growing discussions around holistic and spiritually inclusive workplaces.

Originality/value

This paper introduces originality by presenting a theoretical–methodological framework that emphasizes five distinct research propositions. These propositions, rooted in a comprehensive literature review, provide insights into how spirituality might influence workplace performance through various mediating variables.

Abstract

Purpose

This research aims to highlight the connection of entrepreneurial leadership with improved organizational outcomes through employee-driven factors of creativity and behavior. It addresses certain existing research gaps concerning the interaction of leadership practices with organizational performance.

Design/methodology/approach

A quantitative cross-sectional design was employed to analyze the interaction among the study variables. Data was collected from 414 employees across various industries in Punjab, Pakistan through an adapted questionnaire which was in structured form. Smart Pls 4 and SPSS were used for analysis of the collected data.

Findings

The findings indicate positive and significant effect of entrepreneurial leadership on organizational performance, wherein employee creativity and behavior are the key mediators. The study shows that high levels of employee creativity and positive behavior are directly linked to improved performance metrics in organizations led by entrepreneurial leaders. This consequently underscores the need of creating an environment which encourages creativity and supports positive employee behaviors required for entrepreneurial leadership.

Originality/value

This research enriches the academic discourse by quantitatively confirming the mediating role of employee creativity and behavior between entrepreneurial leadership and organizational performance. Unlike previous studies which focused mainly on direct effects or less quantifiable leadership aspects, this study provides empirical evidence supporting a model where employee attributes significantly impact organizational success under entrepreneurial leadership. This insight is valuable for leaders and practitioners aiming to utilize entrepreneurial leadership in dynamic business settings.
