Abstract
Purpose
In order to find the relationship between operation machine status and oil monitoring information, the oil monitoring information characteristics abstraction and fault diagnostic system is established. The purpose of this paper is to find an effective method to monitor and diagnose the machine running status, and consequently, serve the industry.
Design/methodology/approach
The operation status information of equipments is obtained through applying the methods of statistical, trend, entropy and clustering characteristics as a whole; and the multi‐characteristic integration method is established based on the existing literature, industry practices and oil characteristic analysis.
Findings
Using multi‐characteristic integration method, an oil monitoring and diagnostic system is established based on the above status information. This multi‐characteristic integration method is applied to D‐100/8 air compressor sets in the status monitoring project of a shipbuilding company. The analysis conclusions of the operation status can be obtained promptly and accurately by the method, and can provide guidance for the equipment maintenance.
Originality/value
A novel comprehensive oil monitoring data processing method are presented in this paper, which can scientifically distill latent laws among the monitoring information and detect accurately the measurement index of the fault states and abnormity data.

Abstract
Purpose
Political factors play a crucial role in China's initial public offering (IPO) market due to its distinctive institutional context (i.e. “economic decentralization” and “political centralization”). Given the significant level of IPO underpricing in China, we examine the impact of local political uncertainty (measured by prefecture-level city official turnover rate) on IPO underpricing.
Design/methodology/approach
Using 2,259 IPOs of A-share listed companies from 2001 to 2019, we employ a structural equation model (SEM) to examine the channel (voluntarily lower the issuance price vs aftermarket trading) through which political uncertainty affects IPO underpricing. We check the robustness of the results using bootstrap tests, adopting alternative proxies for political uncertainty and IPO underpricing and employing subsample analysis.
Findings
Local official turnover-induced political uncertainty increases IPO underpricing by IPO firms voluntarily reducing the issuance price rather than by affecting investor sentiment in aftermarket trading. These relations are stronger in firms with pre-IPO political connections. The effect of political uncertainty on IPO underpricing is also contingent upon the industry and the growth phase of an IPO firm, more pronounced in politically sensitive industries and firms listed on the growth enterprise market board.
Originality/value
Local government officials in China usually have a short tenure and Chinese firms witness significantly severe IPO underpricing. By introducing the SEM model in studying China IPO underpricing, this study identifies the channel through which local government official turnover to political uncertainty on IPO underpricing.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to investigate effects of two integrative mechanisms of third-party logistics (3PL) integration (i.e. information sharing and process coordination) between users and providers on relationship satisfaction, and further explores how partnership-surrounding (e.g. legal unprotectability) and partnership-specific barriers (e.g. measurement difficulty and cooperation difficulty) influence 3PL integration in the context of Chinese 3PL practices.
Design/methodology/approach
Using data collected from 247 3PL users in China, this study uses the structural equation modeling method to empirically examine the relationship among partnership-surrounding/specific barriers, 3PL integration and relationship satisfaction.
Findings
The results show that information sharing has no significant effect on relationship satisfaction, while process coordination has a positive effect on relationship satisfaction and partially mediates the relationship between information sharing and relationship satisfaction. Furthermore, as partnership-specific barrier, measurement difficulty and cooperation difficulty are negatively related to information sharing and process coordination. Surprisingly, as partnership-surrounding barrier, legal unprotectability is not significantly related to information sharing but is positively related to process coordination.
Originality/value
As a comprehensive study on 3PL user-provider relationship in China, this study extends existing 3PL literature by providing evidence about the importance of 3PL integration and different types of barriers to 3PL integration, also providing managerial implications for 3PL users, providers, law and regulation makers about how to better implement 3PL integration in China.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on company innovation, specifically centering on the quantity and quality of innovation. The paper aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of whether the epidemic inhibits innovation and the role of digital transformation in mitigating this negative impact.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper uses a quasi-experimental study of the COVID-19 pandemic and constructs a differential model to analyze the relationship between the epidemic and firm innovation in three dimensions: total, quantity and quality. The paper also uses a difference-in-difference-in-differences model to test whether digital transformation of firms mitigates the negative impact of the epidemic and its mechanism of action.
Findings
The results show that COVID-19 significantly reduced the overall level of firm innovation, primarily in terms of quantity rather than quality. Furthermore, this study finds that digital transformation plays a pivotal role in mitigating the pandemic’s adverse impact on innovation. By addressing financing constraints and countering demand insufficiency, digital transformation acts as a catalyst for preserving and fostering innovation during and after the pandemic.
Originality/value
This study extends the current research on the pandemic’s impact on firm innovation at the micro level. It offers valuable insights into strategies for fostering digital transformation among Chinese enterprises in the post-pandemic era.

Purpose
This paper aims to present a method to improve the sensitive and low probabilities of false alarm of a manipulator in a human–robot interaction environment, which can improve the performance of the system owing to non-linear uncertainty in the model of the robot controller.
Design/methodology/approach
A novel collision detection method based on adaptive residual estimation is proposed, promoting the detection accuracy of the collision of the manipulator during operation. First, a general momentum residual estimator is designed to incorporate the non-linear factors of the manipulator (e.g. joint friction, speed and acceleration) into the residual-related uncertainty of the model. Second, model parameters are estimated through gradient correction. The residual filter is used to determine the dynamic threshold, resulting in higher detection accuracy. Finally, the performance of the residual estimation scheme is evaluated by comparing the dynamic threshold with residual in real-time experiments where a single Universal Robot 5 robot end–effector collides with the obstacle.
Findings
Experimental results demonstrate that the collision detection system can improve sensitivity and lead to low probabilities of false alarm of non-linear uncertainty in the model.
Practical implications
The method proposed in this article can be applied to industry and human–robot interaction area.
Originality/value
An adaptive collision detection method is proposed in this paper to address non-linear uncertainties of the model in industrial application.

Purpose
Achieving sustainability and sustainable performance has emerged as a critical area of focus for both academic research and practice. However, this pursuit faces challenges, particularly concerning the inadequacy of supply chain information. To address this issue, our study employs the organizational information processing theory to explore how adopting blockchain technology enables firms to learn from and collaborate with their supply chain partners, ultimately facilitating their sustainable performance even in the presence of organizational inertia.
Design/methodology/approach
Underpinned by the organizational information processing theory and drawing data from 220 manufacturing firms in China, we use structural equation modeling to test our conceptual model.
Findings
Our results demonstrate that blockchain technology adoption can significantly enhance sustainable performance. Furthermore, supply chain learning acts as a mediator between blockchain technology adoption and sustainable performance, while organizational inertia plays a negative moderating role between blockchain technology adoption and supply chain learning.
Originality/value
These findings extend the existing literature on blockchain technology adoption and supply chain management, offering novel insights into the pivotal role of blockchain in fostering supply chain learning and achieving sustainable performance. Our study provides valuable practical implications for managers seeking to leverage blockchain technology to enhance sustainability and facilitate organizational learning.

Purpose
There is a consensus suggesting that the theoretical underpinning associated with supply chain quality management practices remain evolutionary to current thinking. Therefore, this study aims to explore how absorptive capacity (AC) supports supply chain quality integration (SCQI) by building product and process quality within a supply chain (SC).
Design/methodology/approach
A comparative case study of global pharmaceutical manufacturers in a developing market was undertaken. A two-round qualitative research method was designed to collect data through 54 semi-structured interviews with pharmaceutical managers and senior managers.
Findings
The results demonstrate that AC is essential to the development of SCQI because of its ability to use valuable strategic and operational knowledge, which is important when improving consistent internal product and process quality, along with establishing a robust SC design. The authors found that AC enables companies to design their quality and continuously improve their products and processes among their SC members.
Research limitations/implications
The authors acknowledge that these sets of findings are difficult to generalise to other sectors, however, the authors are confident that they can be extrapolated to other companies in the pharmaceutical industry.
Practical implications
The study develops a framework to support practitioners and decision makers to leverage their AC towards facilitating their SCQI practices.
Originality/value
This study explains the role of the AC process in relation to SCQI practices, in the context of the pharmaceutical SC. The study profiles the characteristics of dynamic capabilities to increase the companies’ competencies, processes and resources.

Purpose
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has received a large amount of attention in research and in practice. As a response to the growing awareness of and concern about social and environmental issues, an increasing number of companies are integrating their supply chains and building an alliance of “a company + farmers”. The overall research question of this study is derived from the literature, and this paper aims to identify factors that influence the integration of the agriculture supply chain and to explore the relationship between these factors and quality performance.
Design/methodology/approach
The analysis is based on questionnaire survey data collected from 462 Chinese farmers under the organization pattern of “a company + farmers”. A structural equation model is applied in the empirical analysis of the relations among trust, relationship commitments of different types (normative and instrumental), supply chain integration and quality performance.
Findings
An understanding of the various influences on supply chain integration and quality performance is important in relation to CSR in Chinese agriculture. The results show that supply chain integration has positive effects on quality performance. Moreover, farmers’ normative relationship commitment to the company is positively related to supply chain integration. However, farmers’ instrumental relationship commitment to the company does not significantly affect the degree of integration between farmers and companies. Furthermore, trust has positive influences on the two types of relationship commitment and on supply chain integration.
Research limitations/implications
The findings provide a theoretical basis and practice guidelines for agricultural enterprises to manage CSR under the pattern of “a company + farmers”. The results help enterprises to acquire detailed information about the entire process of agricultural production, improve the quality and safety of primary agricultural products and enhance the competitiveness of Chinese agricultural products in the market.
Originality/value
The e-book shows that enterprises working within Chinese agriculture supply chains have a long tradition of working with CSR and supports cooperation between the European Union and China on food and agriculture.

This paper aims to construct a novel measure of firms’ perceived degree of economic policy uncertainty (EPU) and to examine its impact on imitative innovation.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper uses text mining methods to extract valid information for management discussion and analysis from the annual reports of Chinese A-share-listed companies from 2009 to 2021.
Findings
The empirical findings demonstrate that firms that perceive higher uncertainty in economic policies promote increased imitative innovation behaviour. In addition, when uncertainty is high, overly optimistic managers can reduce the imitative innovation of the firm to other firms.
Originality/value
The paper uses some of the more recent textual analysis techniques in the field of innovation to measure listed firms' perceptions of external EPU and to examine the impact of uncertainty on imitative innovation. Such research enriches the literature on innovation and fills some gaps.
