Abstract
Looks at the Taguchi method, a traditional approach that seeks to obtain the best combination of factors with the lowest societal cost solution to achieve customer requirements, and also principal component analysis (PCA). States that the Taguchi method can only be used to optimize single response problems and not multi‐response problems and that PCA, although it has been considered to solve multi‐response problems, itself has shortcomings. Proposes a data envelopment analysis ranking (DEAR) approach as an effective means of optimizing the multi‐response problem. Includes a series of steps from the proposed approach which are capable of decreasing uncertainty caused by engineering judgement in the Taguchi method and overcoming the shortcomings of PCA. Concludes that the DEAR approach is more powerful for practical applications.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to re‐evaluate the performance of the adaptive control charts which allow some of their design parameters to change during production depending on the collected information from samples over time. Instead of employing a single performance measure (average time to signal process changes), a set of measures, associated with the inspection efficiency and effort, is taken into account in the evaluation process.
Design/methodology/approach
A multivariate analysis of variation (MANOVA) approach along with the post hoc analysis are applied to investigate the performance of different adaptive control charts based on different measures.
Findings
The findings indicate that different adaptive control charts may have different performance, depending on the measure regarded and the value of shift in process mean. In general, the VSSC, VSSI, and VSI control charts would be recommended for a process with a small, moderate, and large shift, respectively. The SS chart is still the best choice for a process with an extremely large shift.
Research limitations/implications
Up to now, the proposed procedure has been developed for the comparative analyses of adaptive X¯ charts, but it could be adjusted for other adaptive charts as well.
Originality/value
This paper provides a review of the performance of adaptive control charts from a novel perspective.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to propose several characteristics of check-in services and investigates whether these characteristics influence customer perceived utilitarian and hedonic values. These perceived values mediate the influences of check-in services on customers' responses.
Design/methodology/approach
From the perspective of mobile check-in service, the authors proposed a framework with several hypotheses and verified the model with structural equation modeling based on questionnaire data collected from mobile device users.
Findings
The results indicate that self-disclosure, expressive support and self-congruity positively relate to utilitarian value; instrumental support positively relates to hedonic value and both hedonic and utilitarian values positively relate to continuance intention and re-patronage intention. However, sales promotion has no significant influence on both hedonic and utilitarian check-in values.
Originality/value
This study applies the concept of location-based social networks to provide new insights into the evolving user-generated content research in the interactive marketing field.

Abstract
Purpose
The tremendous market growth of mobile platforms for esports underscores the need to understand players' psychological states and consumption behavior. Based on flow theory, this study examines players' psychological states (flow and clutch experiences) and consumption behavior based on the interaction effects of playing frequency, playing duration and players' levels on the PC (LOL – League of Legends) and mobile (LOLWR – League of Legends: Wild Rift) versions of the same esports title.
Design/methodology/approach
Data were collected from 930 valid responses and analyzed with confirmatory factor analysis and multiple regression (PROCESS macro, Model 3).
Findings
There are two main findings. First, across PC and mobile participants, casual gamers (low playing frequency and duration) have firm purchase intention when they have a clutch experience, but flow experience hinders their purchasing intention. Second, hardcore gamers' (high playing frequency and duration) psychological states are clearly distinguished according to technological platforms. Flow experience is the most effective for their purchase intention in the PC platform, but both flow and clutch states are important in the mobile platform. Flow experience is essential overall for hardcore gamers to intend their in-game item purchasing.
Originality/value
This study has two primary originality/values. First, this study explores flow and clutch together to measure psychological states and the impact on the purchase intention of in-game items. Second, the interacting effects of playing frequency, duration, and skill level with technical platforms (i.e. PC and mobile) for esports gaming.
