Abstract
Purpose
Engineering components/structures with geometric discontinuities normally bear complex and variable loads, which lead to a multiaxial and random/variable amplitude stress/strain state. Hence, this study aims how to effectively evaluate the multiaxial random/variable amplitude fatigue life.
Design/methodology/approach
Recent studies on critical plane method under multiaxial random/variable amplitude loading are reviewed, and the computational framework is clearly presented in this paper.
Findings
Some basic concepts and latest achievements in multiaxial random/variable amplitude fatigue analysis are introduced. This review summarizes the research status of four main aspects of multiaxial fatigue under random/variable amplitude loadings, namely multiaxial fatigue criterion, method for critical plane determination, cycle counting method and damage accumulation criterion. Particularly, the latest achievements of multiaxial random/variable amplitude fatigue using critical plane methods are classified and highlighted.
Originality/value
This review attempts to provide references for further research on multiaxial random/variable amplitude fatigue and to promote the development of multiaxial fatigue from experimental research to practical engineering application.

Abstract
Purpose
Information is presented in various modalities such as text and images, and it can quickly and widely spread on social networks and among the general public through key communication nodes involved in public opinion events. Therefore, by tracking and identifying key nodes of public opinion, we can determine the direction of public opinion evolution and timely and effectively control public opinion events or curb the spread of false information.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper introduces a novel multimodal semantic enhanced representation based on multianchor mapping semantic community (MAMSC) for identifying key nodes in public opinion. MAMSC consists of four core components: multimodal data feature extraction module, feature vector dimensionality reduction module, semantic enhanced representation module and semantic community (SC) recognition module. On this basis, we combine the method of community discovery in complex networks to analyze the aggregation characteristics of different semantic anchors and construct a three-layer network module for public opinion node recognition in the SC with strong, medium and weak associations.
Findings
The experimental results show that compared with its variants and the baseline models, the MAMSC model has better recognition accuracy. This study also provides more systematic, forward-looking and scientific decision-making support for controlling public opinion and curbing the spread of false information.
Originality/value
We creatively combine the construction of variant autoencoder with multianchor mapping to enhance semantic representation and construct a three-layer network module for public opinion node recognition in the SC with strong, medium and weak associations. On this basis, our constructed MAMSC model achieved the best results compared to the baseline models and ablation evaluation models, with a precision of 91.21%.

Abstract
Purpose
While luxury brands have increasingly pursued CSR activities such as corporate donations, this strategy may not be effective because there is an inherent mismatch between the concepts of “luxury” and CSR. The present research examines the effects of different types of donation strategies (frequency-focused vs. amount-focused).
Design/methodology/approach
Two experimental studies were conducted. Study 1 provides initial evidence to our prediction that a frequency-focused strategy is beneficial for luxury (vs. non-luxury) brands to leverage their positive brand evaluations. Study 2 further replicates this using a different brand and establishes the underlying mechanism.
Findings
Findings show that a frequency-focused strategy is beneficial for luxury (vs. non-luxury) brands to leverage their positive brand evaluations. This is because a frequency-focused strategy makes consumers perceive the luxury brand's commitment to help, which in turn reduces consumers’ skepticism toward their CSR activities.
Originality/value
The study illustrates a novel mechanism that shows when and how different corporate donations influence luxury brand evaluations.

Purpose
Grey modeling technique is an important element of grey system theory, and academic articles applied to agricultural science research have been published since 1985, proving the broad applicability and effectiveness of the technique from different aspects and providing a new means to solve agricultural science problems. The analysis of the connotation and trend of the application of grey modeling technique in agricultural science research contributes to the enrichment of grey technique and the development of agricultural science in multiple dimensions.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on the relevant literature selected from China National Knowledge Infrastructure, the Web of Science, SpiScholar and other databases in the past 37 years (1985–2021), this paper firstly applied the bibliometric method to quantitatively visualize and systematically analyze the trend of publication, productive author, productive institution, and highly cited literature. Then, the literature is combed by the application of different grey modeling techniques in agricultural science research, and the literature research progress is systematically analyzed.
Findings
The results show that grey model technology has broad prospects in the field of agricultural science research. Agricultural universities and research institutes are the main research forces in the application of grey model technology in agricultural science research, and have certain inheritance. The application of grey model technology in agricultural science research has wide applicability and precise practicability.
Originality/value
By analyzing and summarizing the application trend of grey model technology in agricultural science research, the research hotspot, research frontier and valuable research directions of grey model technology in agricultural science research can be more clearly grasped.

The contemporary view of museums differs markedly from the traditional perception of scattered institutions, with urbanization and globalization reshaping their definitions and functions. This chapter explores the evolving roles of museums, particularly within the context of smart city development, with a focus on China. The chapter employs a structured methodology, first examining the positive aspects of museums, including their role in safeguarding natural heritage, promoting social responsibility, and facilitating education. Conversely, it scrutinizes the negative influences on museums, such as political and colonial interventions that impact pedagogical practices. A significant aspect of the discussion is the intersection of museum education with smart and adult education, heralding a renaissance in museum learning. A case study on the Danxiashan Geo-Museum illustrates the integration of cultural and heritage institutions into smart city initiatives, serving as a prototype for future endeavors. The chapter underscores the importance of incorporating smart and adult education into museum initiatives, along with smart innovation projects involving local museums and heritage sites. The implications extend to next-generation smart cities, offering insights into their societal, economic, and developmental impacts in the Gulf Region. Museum education emerges as a crucial yet understudied component within the framework of smart cities and education, providing a lens for reimagining future educational paradigms. By embracing the resurgence of museum education and integrating socio-cultural changes, including the rise of heritage education, smart cities can enhance their educational and societal contributions nationally and globally.

Abstract
Purpose
Scholars mainly propose and establish theoretical models of cumulative fatigue damage for their research fields. This review aims to select the applicable model from many fatigue damage models according to the actual situation. However, relatively few models can be generally accepted and widely used.
Design/methodology/approach
This review introduces the development of cumulative damage theory. Then, several typical models are selected from linear and nonlinear cumulative damage models to perform data analyses and obtain the fatigue life for the metal.
Findings
Considering the energy law and strength degradation, the nonlinear fatigue cumulative damage model can better reflect the fatigue damage under constant and multi-stage variable amplitude loading. In the following research, the complex uncertainty of the model in the fatigue damage process can be considered, as well as the combination of advanced machine learning techniques to reduce the prediction error.
Originality/value
This review compares the advantages and disadvantages of various mainstream cumulative damage research methods. It provides a reference for further research into the theories of cumulative fatigue damage.

In addition, some problems in theoretical modeling and testing of the mechanical properties of materials are discussed.
Design/methodology/approach
The situation of materials under impact load is of great significance to show the mechanical performance. The performance of various materials under impact load is different, and there are many research methods. It is affected by some kinds of factors, such as the temperature, the gap and the speed of load.
Findings
The research on mechanical properties of materials under impact load has the characteristics as fellow. It is difficult to build the theoretical model, verify by experiment and analyze the data accumulation.
Originality/value
This review provides a reference for further study of material properties.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this conceptual paper is to explore the connection between green supply chain practices (GSCPs) and sustained business advantage from an emerging market perspective. Research on the phenomenon is limited in developing countries where green supply chain (GSC) concepts are now increasingly gaining ground. The study also attempts a general literature review to examine the mediating role of effective environmental benchmarking and leadership factors on the relationship. It further provides insight on the moderating effect of constructs such as people involvement and customer preferences.
Design/methodology/approach
Separate searches were conducted in key academic databases such as Emerald Online Journals, Taylor and Francis Online Journals, JSTOR Online Journals and Elsevier Online Journals. Also, version 7 of the Publish or Perish software was used to search for paper focused on GSCPs and sustainability. In total, 19 articles met the predefined criteria and were used.
Findings
The results from the synthesis of the reviewed literature shows that despite the fact that leadership factors mediates the positive relationship between GSCPs and sustained business advantage, research on supply chain (SC) leadership as a construct is limited and requires further empirical research.
Research limitations/implications
Some limitations must be considered and could provide guidance for future study; this study did not collect data to test the proposed model. Moreover the study hypotheses proposed need to be tested to validate the model proposed.
Practical implications
This research by promoting an understanding of how GSCPs impacts the activities of buying and supply organizations in emerging markets. Findings on the leadership factors and people involvement constructs will assist SC operators in emerging markets to tap the tremendous potential inherent in participatory SC approaches to remain competitive and acquire sustained business advantage.
Originality/value
The study offers opportunity for empirical testing of the mediating (effective environmental benchmarking and leadership factors) and moderating (people involvement and customer preferences) variables in an emerging market context as this could provide fresh insights on the complexity of the relationships.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to analyse the viability of production processes in the framework of three industries, referred to here as “automotive”, “machine-tool” and “other transport material”. This idea is of interest as a result of the cognitive convergence that has arisen from the widespread of information and communication technologies in the technical solutions used by most of the product fields that make up the manufacturing industry.
Design/methodology/approach
Under the framework of evolutionary theory and based on the cognitive composition of the technical solutions used by the industries studied, this paper has drawn up technology profiles for those industries from the viewpoint of formal logic. These profiles will help us to analyse their potential and difficulties so as to bridge the cognitive gap and enabling them to access new paths and set up processes to diversify their output. Interviews with company management staff and high-ranking experts have provided us with highly useful information to help us complete the theoretical reflection and check it against expected behaviour patterns.
Findings
The results confirm that firms in the industries studies find it difficult to drive forward diversification processes. The analysis provides a theoretical explanation for the empirical results that can be found in the literature on the extent to which path dependency processes explain technology dynamics.
Research limitations/implications
The limitations of this study lie on the one hand in the small number of firms interviewed (it would be useful to extend the sample to include other medium- and high-technology industries to see whether the results are confirmed) and on the other hand, in the possibility that the Covid-19 crisis may affect results, investment decisions and access to financial resources, and thus, upset plans for diversification.
Practical implications
There is a consensus that decision-making in general, and in management in particular, is plagued by unpredictability, risk and uncertainty (Baldwin et al., 2005; Bergh et al., 2011). Managers making deliberate strategic choices – which usually require long time horizons and involve high risk (Perello-Marin et al., 2013) – need to know whether the competitive future of their firms lies mainly in product innovation (diversification), in process and organisational innovation, in the internationalisation of production, in mergers or in other, alternative paths (Sydow et al., 2009). This study presents empirical evidence of the possibilities and difficulties faced by firms based on their technology profiles. This is a complex approach that calls for more research effort if it is to become an option for enhancing resilience and flexibility at firms and strengthening their ability to react to changes. According to Raynor (2002) diversification, understood dynamically, provides a way for companies competing in especially turbulent industries to hedge against uncertain future reconfigurations of industry boundaries. Palich et al. (2000) state that compared with single-business firms, firms engaging in related diversification are able to exploit synergies across product units by consolidating business activities in manufacturing, marketing, raw material purchases and R&D, and thus, achieve both scale and scope economies.
Originality/value
The manuscript is absolutely original in terms of its approach and design and sets out to analyse industrial diversification processes on the basis of the cognitive characteristics of the technical solutions used by the various industries.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to assess the role of commercial banks in combating money laundering in the People's Republic of China (PRC). An effective anti‐money laundering (AML) regime within the banking sector can make a significant contribution to the fight against money laundering both nationally and internationally.
Design/methodology/approach
An assessment based on the AML law of China, rules and regulations issued by the People's Bank of China (PBOC) was conducted on commercial banks in Xichang City. A questionnaire and guided oral interviews were employed to collect data for the study.
Findings
The study found that all the five banks that responded to the questionnaire have, for the period 2006‐2010, not been assessed by the PBOC, despite being independently audited by external auditors. All banks have AML policies and procedures in place, have designated a compliance officer for AML activities and trained their employees.
Research limitations/implications
Only five banks responded to the questionnaire as most of them were not willing to release information on their AML activities, for various reasons. This raises the question of generalizing the findings of the current study.
Originality/value
The paper shows the extent to which AML rules and regulations have been embraced and implemented by commercial banks at a micro level. It is envisaged that the findings of this study will encourage similar studies in other cities of the PRC and help policy makers, especially at the PBOC, to re‐align their strategies in line with what is obtaining on the ground.
