Abstract
Purpose
Public willingness to obey the law is partially determined by their satisfaction levels with police job performance. Although numerous studies have researched determinants of citizen satisfaction with the police, to date, none have examined whether political orientations, measured according to voting preferences, share any association with this outcome. No study, moreover, has analyzed if the effects of political orientations vary by contact with law enforcement.
Design/methodology/approach
Questionnaire data were collected from a convenience sample of university students to determine whether the effects of political orientations on satisfaction with law enforcement varied by contact with the police.
Findings
Among the total sample, as well as those who had no prior contact with the police, liberal respondents expressed less satisfaction with law enforcers when compared to conservatives. Among those who were either contacted by the police, or who initiated contact, political orientations had no effect on satisfaction. What was significant across all models though was procedural justice.
Research limitations
Generalization attempts are hindered considering the non-probability nature of the sample, while causality can also not be confirmed since data are cross-sectional.
Practical implications
Police officers must behave in procedurally fair manners when interacting with citizens and engage in community outreach initiatives in order to improve their image across society.
Originality/value
Findings offer insight into the conditions under which voting preferences can shape evaluations of the police.

Abstract
We describe a special education teacher and a history teacher who, together, gave specific learning disabled (SLD) and emotionally disabled (ED) students the opportunity to make historical documentaries in a self-contained special education classroom. Students were diverse in race, gender and disability. Findings indicated documentary making yielded positive outcomes for students as well as for the teachers. By selectively appropriating desktop documentary making technology, teachers engaged students in a technology-based project. Documentary making also opened opportunities for teachers’ close interaction with students, while still managing a potentially disruptive classroom. Students, who struggled with reading and writing, completed an engaging, lengthy, complex history project and exercised historical thinking skills. This study has implications for using documentary making technologies for engaging and refining students’ historical thinking skills.

The study of group dynamics was central to the field of organization development at its inception. More recently, there has been a move away from considering irrational and unconscious dynamics in organizational life and more attention focused on rational and observable behavior that can be measured and quantified. We introduce the tool, Beneath the Surface of the Burke-Litwin Model, that invites consideration of how the overt behavior of individuals, groups, and entire systems is linked to covert dynamics. This more comprehensive view of organizational life provides scholar-practitioners with a systemic perspective, a view of covert dynamics by organizational level, and support for the ongoing development of one’s capacity for using self-as-instrument when engaged in organization development and organization change efforts.

Abstract
The higher education (HE) sector in Myanmar is currently in a fragile, backward-looking state. Its fragility is due to the 2021 coup with its consequent civil disobedience movement, continued conflict between the military and people’s defence force, the junta’s spurious delivery of a post-Covid and post-coup education system, and the junta’s apparent abandoning of the previous civilian government’s progress with the National Education Strategic Plan. It is backward-looking because the current junta, like previous juntas in Myanmar, use education as a tool for military propaganda and to populate the education system with civil servants that are loyal, or at least supine, to the military. The task of this chapter is to provide an overview of HE in Myanmar and how its current condition aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4.3. This task is contextualised by considering the role of universities in the history of socio-political uprisings in Myanmar. Universities as theatres of communicative action have been and continue to be spaces of public resistance. This resistance and its accompanying vertical tension continue to shape the physical constitution of universities and the delivery of HE in Myanmar.

Today an estimated 500,000 personal computers have been purchased by Americans who use them at home and in a variety of small business applications. (Note: We define a personal computer as a small, relatively inexpensive, microprocessor‐based device which can be taken out of its box, plugged in and begin working immediately, as opposed to large computers which must be permanently installed, and/or require professional programming. We exclude microprocessor‐based devices whose only function is limited to the playback of packaged games.) Many market research services believe that personal computer sales will continue to grow rapidly, perhaps as fast as a 50 percent annual growth rate for the next several years. The impact of this new interactive information technology coming into the possession of perhaps millions of people can only be guessed at at this early juncture. To us, as librarians, one of the more perceivable results of the growing wave of interest in personal computers has been the proliferation of literature addressed to the personal computer user.

Abstract
Purpose
Organisational clans and tribes are entities that prescribe the behaviour of collaborators on the basis of cultural values and norms. Consequently, this study aims to propose a management tool based on the analysis and interpretation of organisational clans and tribes.
Design/methodology/approach
With this purpose, first, the authors review the current status of the discussion about organisational clans and tribes, following a sequential mix-method approach that begins with a bibliometric analysis and end with a content review. Based on these results, in the second stage, the authors propose a conceptual tool that analyses clans and tribes in organisations to create and consolidate alliances. Then in the third stage, the authors apply this tool to the transformation of Medellin – a city that was first conceived as violent and now become a good place to live and travel.
Findings
By applying the tool proposed in this study, it is possible to analyse and understand how to transform disagreement into alliance and how clans and tribes – in addition to taking a leading role in organising – are jointly responsible for the results.
Originality/value
Clans and tribes of management are proposed as a tool for organisational management from the analysis and interpretation of clans and tribes in organisations. These clans and tribes of management allow for the intervention of clans and tribes of reference and their consequent emancipation, through organisational clans and tribes that arise naturally, by association or disintegration and that support the management of change required to create effective alliances. Thus, the strategy that should be followed to reinforce the management of changes in organisations is to align alliances with organisational clans and tribes.
Objetivo
Definir los clanes y las tribus organizacionales como aquellos que prescriben el comportamiento de los colaboradores a partir de los valores culturales y las normas, plantea la necesidad de proponer una herramienta de gestión a partir del análisis e interpretación de los clanes y las tribus organizacionales.
Diseño/metodología/enfoque
Para tal fin, se revisa -a través de un análisis bibliométrico- el estado reciente de la discusión sobre los clanes y las tribus organizacionales. Hasta proponer una herramienta conceptual de fácil aplicación, para la creación y consolidación de alianzas. Esta herramienta es posteriormente verificada para el caso de la transformación de la ciudad de Medellín, que paso de ser reconocida como una ciudad violenta para convertirse en un buen vividero y un destino por descubrir.
Hallazgos
Con la aplicación de la herramienta propuesta en este estudio, se logra analizar y comprender como ha sido posible transformar la emancipación en alianza, y como los clanes y las tribus además de tener un rol protagónico en la organización son corresponsables de los resultados obtenidos.
Originalidad/valor
Los clanes y tribus de gestión se proponen como una herramienta para la gestión organizacional que parte del análisis e interpretación de los clanes y tribus en las organizaciones. Estos clanes y tribus de gestión permiten la intervención de clanes y tribus de referencia y su consecuente emancipación, a través de clanes y tribus organizacionales que surgen de forma natural, por asociación o desintegración, y que apoyan la gestión del cambio necesario para crear alianzas efectivas. Así, la estrategia que debe seguirse para reforzar la gestión de los cambios en las organizaciones es alinear las alianzas con los clanes y tribus organizacionales.

Investigates the differences in protocols between arbitral tribunals and courts, with particular emphasis on US, Greek and English law. Gives examples of each country and its way of using the law in specific circumstances, and shows the variations therein. Sums up that arbitration is much the better way to gok as it avoids delays and expenses, plus the vexation/frustration of normal litigation. Concludes that the US and Greek constitutions and common law tradition in England appear to allow involved parties to choose their own judge, who can thus be an arbitrator. Discusses e‐commerce and speculates on this for the future.

Since the first Volume of this Bibliography there has been an explosion of literature in all the main areas of business. The researcher and librarian have to be able to uncover specific articles devoted to certain topics. This Bibliography is designed to help. Volume III, in addition to the annotated list of articles as the two previous volumes, contains further features to help the reader. Each entry within has been indexed according to the Fifth Edition of the SCIMP/SCAMP Thesaurus and thus provides a full subject index to facilitate rapid information retrieval. Each article has its own unique number and this is used in both the subject and author index. The first Volume of the Bibliography covered seven journals published by MCB University Press. This Volume now indexes 25 journals, indicating the greater depth, coverage and expansion of the subject areas concerned.
