Abstract

Purpose

The paper sets out to focus the attention of scholars and policy‐makers on the urgency of Nigeria's worsening debt crisis, with a view to suggesting initiatives which can be instrumental in preventing a further deterioration of the crisis.

Design/methodology/approach

The recommendations suggested specifically addressed stated research objectives. The research framework attempted to evaluate the role played by Nigeria's past administrations in the evolvement of the crisis. It also appraised the crisis in the context of the new international environment surrounding it. The study suggested improvement to the methodological flaws inherent in modern‐day debt resolution framework, which, so far, has only undermined the implementation of past resolution initiatives at the practical level.

Findings

Among other findings, the study uncovered the following: without their modification to suit the peculiar needs and circumstances facing individual countries, modern‐day debt resolution initiatives will only continue to further impoverish Nigeria and sub‐Saharan Africa; over time, Nigeria's successive administrations‐through corruption and inconsistent administrative policies‐significantly contributed to the crisis; creditors establishments‐by knowingly favoring fraudulent administrations with huge, questionable loans (in their self‐serving interest to benefit from reverse resource transfer)‐in no small measure contributed to the crisis.

Research limitations/implications

The projections into the future are only based on trends observed in the past. They do not include unexpected events which might dramatically affect the course of the crisis in the long or distant future.

Practical implications

In order to ensure a successful implementation of resolution strategies suggested here and elsewhere, all the concerned parties will have to be actively involved‐both Nigeria and other indebted African countries, and all their external creditors.

Originality/value

Nigeria's external debt crisis was re‐appraised in the context of the new environment of the crisis. The findings and initiatives suggested for resolution here have a tremendous research value for scholars in the field. They also have an immense practical value for implementation by policy‐makers.

Abstract

Purpose

Voice assistants can present search results through “voice presentation” or “voice and visual”, depending on the device they are connected to. Alternatively, consumers can search for products manually using the online website. Despite the critical role of presentation formats in helping consumers understand and decide on products, this area remains vastly unexplored, particularly the combined use of voice and visual formats. Thus, to understand which presentation format suits different products, we delve into consumer search behaviour, distinguishing between low and high-involvement products.

Design/methodology/approach

A between-subjects factorial experimental design was used to examine the influence of 3 presentation formats (voice only, visual only and voice and visual) and 2 product involvement levels (low and high) on consumer trust, usefulness and behavioural intentions.

Findings

The results confirm a significant interaction between presentation format and product involvement, highlighting consumers' preference for voice presentation in low-involvement products, while a combination of “voice and visual” is preferred for high-involvement products.

Originality/value

The study shows that both presentation format and product involvement affect the trust and usefulness of voice assistants, which further influences consumers’ behavioural intentions. The key finding contributes to the growing body of knowledge of consumer and voice assistant interaction and offers guidance to managers on the use of voice assistants for their customers.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to review the diversified existing literature on tourism and carbon emissions using bibliometric analysis to churn down the multiple studies under one paper, which not only provides insights into the evolution and progress of the research area but also sets the future research agenda.

Design/methodology/approach

The study adopted the Scientometrics review methodology based on the bibliometric analysis. Bibliometric analysis is conducted through the following techniques, namely, citation analysis, thematic mapping, country collaboration, co-citation analysis and co-occurrence of keywords with the help of R-based bibliometrix and visualization of similarities (VOS) viewer open-source software.

Findings

The study identified the most prominent authors, studies, journals, affiliations and countries in the field of sustainable tourism, as well as the most co-cited authors and journals, based on a bibliometric analysis of 398 research papers retrieved from the Scopus database during the past three decades (1990–2021). Moreover, some of the relevant themes identified by the authors are energy use and carbon dioxide (CO2) emission of the tourism sector, economic impacts of tourism and CO2 emissions and CO2 emissions and carbon tax.

Originality/value

The outcome of the selected studies is a unique contribution to the field of sustainable tourism as it is one of the first known studies to review tourism and carbon emissions. It provides in-depth bibliometric analysis of articles and identification of the important research trends.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of the study is to examine the obstacle in doing business and determinants of credit adoption by the textile enterprises in India.

Design/methodology/approach

The study is based on World Bank’s Enterprises Survey, there are 571 enterprises involved in textile business. The enterprises survey has response on wide range of business obstacles which are categorized under three broad categories, namely, access to resource, business regulations and market externalities. Chi-square test and analysis of variance (ANOVA) have been used to examine the significant difference among firm’s profile and perceived business obstacles across the firm size. Furthermore, binary logistic regression model has been applied to explore the determinants of credit adoption by textile enterprises.

Findings

A statistically significant difference has been found in size of firms and legal status nature of establishment, gender of top manager, main product market and credit adoption from financial institutions. Majority of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are sole proprietorship firm while large enterprises are limited partnership firms. Similarly, large enterprises have relatively more female as a top manager and international market for their product. ANOVA reveals equal degree of obstacles in doing textile business across the firm size. The logistic regression coefficient and marginal effects reveal that firm size, main market,gender of owner, number of establishment in the firms positive and significantly affects the credit adoption by 3 textile enterprises.

Practical implications

The study has some policy implications for various stakeholders such as textile business managers and promoters, government, investors and bankers for entrepreneurship development in textile sector. The study suggests that the government should incentivize small- and medium-sized businesses to increase their exports. The results show that despite government efforts to finance SMEs, fewer SMEs are receiving both short- and long-term credit. To help SMEs in the textile industry overcome financial difficulties and expand their main product market to both domestic and international levels, a soft loan should be provided based on the characteristics of textile enterprises.

Originality/value

The present study suggests the evidence-based understanding of textile business environment. The value and uniqueness of this study is to explore an ease of business textile sector using comprehensive enterprises survey data of World Bank.

Abstract

Purpose

The aim of the study is to investigate the factors that influence the adoption of e-procurement by businesses in the specific context of Saudi Arabia.

Design/methodology/approach

This study uses the firm-level data of World Bank Enterprise Surveys 2022 of Saudi Arabia covering 1,573 enterprises. The association between firm characteristics and the adoption of e-procurement by enterprises has been examined through the chi-square test. Further, a logistic regression model has been fitted to estimate the factors affecting adoption of e-procurement.

Findings

About 10 % of the enterprises reported that they adopted e-procurement as the establishment’s main technology to manage procurement and supplier chain by enterprises. A statistically significant association has been found between e-procurement vis-a-vis firm characteristics. Moreover, logistic regression analysis indicated that large and innovative enterprises, with digital presence in terms of website, holding a bank account and access to credit are more likely to adopt e-procurement.

Practical implications

This study offers valuable insights into the factors that influence the adoption of e-procurement by businesses, which helps the supply chain manager to develop and operationalize the digital supply chain through e-procurement in the context of Saudi Arabia.

Originality/value

This paper can provide significant insights for promoters and supply chain managers in Saudi Arabia, who are now focusing on the digital transformation of businesses. By understanding the factors affecting e-procurement by firms, they can smooth the supply chain.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to investigate the environmental marketing orientation of Muslim entrepreneurs and looks at its relationship with environmental marketing and organizational performance in the context of small and medium enterprises in Indonesian. The study also examines the role of religiosity as a moderator on the relationship between environmental marketing orientation and green marketing.

Design/methodology/approach

The paper is empirical and quantitative in nature. The sample of the study is Muslim entrepreneurs in West Java and Central Java Indonesia. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and partial least square analysis.

Findings

Environmental orientation has a positive relationship with environmental marketing and operational and economic performance. Nonetheless, the study suggests no significant influence of environmental marketing on commercial performance due to “greenwashing” practices. Religiosity appears to moderate the relationship between environmental orientation and environmental marketing practices.

Research limitations/implications

The lack of papers on Islamic marketing makes the depth of discussion somewhat limited.

Practical implications

The recommendation of this study provides a new path to the local government in mitigating the issue of environmental destructions occurring because of entrepreneurs’ business practices. This study has demonstrated the importance of cultivating religious values among society and specifically entrepreneurs as moral guidelines to further strengthen ethical behavior while conducting businesses. The government may endorse more teaching hours on Islamic curriculum at school to create the generation of religious entrepreneurs.

Social implications

The act of preserving the environments while conducting businesses is one form of worship in Islam as such we call for the elaboration and application of strategies to instill the paradigm of excellent merchants among Muslim.

Originality/value

This paper is the first of its kind which empirically testing the relationship between environmental marketing and firms performance with religiosity as a moderator among Muslim entrepreneurs in Indonesia.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to explicate the relationship between knowledge-based dynamic capacities (KBDC) and innovation-based performance (INPF) in information technology (IT) firms in India by examining the mediating impact of absorptive capacity (ABCP). The paper aims to determine whether and how the ABCP of the firms is recognized as the essential facilitator of INPF.

Design/methodology/approach

A survey of 511 respondents from Indian IT employees at the upper and middle management levels was undertaken. In this study, the partial least squares (PLS) technique explored the causal links between constructs with the use of the software application SMART-PLS 3.0.

Findings

The outcomes of this study proved the existence of a statistically significant relationship between the ABCP and INPF of information technology firms. Furthermore, ABCP's influence as a mediator between KBDC and INPF is significant. Therefore, findings imply that ABCP mediates the relationship between KBDC and INPF, however, only to some extent.

Research limitations/implications

With the dynamism of the global market, the research has made significant gains in illustrating the criticality of ABCP for strengthening its KBDC in a much-needed Indian context. Therefore, following the recommendations and findings of this study, practitioners should concentrate on strengthening both ABCP and KBDCs to improve their INPF. To do this, managers must proactively organize their resources, procedures, and structure to promote knowledge absorption and dissemination, fostering innovation.

Originality/value

It is a ground-breaking study that proposes that the ABCP plays a crucial role in enhancing the INPF of the firms. The software industry will likely benefit from this study by understanding ABCP's potential impact on its INPF and designing knowledge management methods accordingly.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to examine the plane wave reflection problem in micropolar orthotropic magneto-thermoelastic half space, considering the influence of impedance as a boundary in a nonlocal elasticity.

Design/methodology/approach

This study presents the novel formulation of governing partial differential equations for micropolar orthotropic medium with impact of nonlocal thermo-elasticity under magnetic field.

Findings

This study provides the numerical results validation for a particular numerical data and expression for the amplitude ratios of reflected waves and identifies the existence of four different waves, namely, quasi longitudinal displacement qCLD-wave, quasi thermal wave qCT-wave, quasi transverse displacement qCTD-wave and quasi-transverse micro-rotational qCTM-wave. The study derives the velocity equation giving the speed and phase velocity of these waves. The study also shows that the small-scale size effect gives significant impact on phase velocity.

Research limitations/implications

The graphical analysis examines the variation of speeds and coefficients of attenuation of these waves due to frequency, magnetic field and nonlocal parameters. Also, significant conclusions on the variation of reflection coefficient against nonlocal parameter, frequency, impedance parameter and angle of incidence are provided graphically.

Practical implications

The creation of more effective micropolar orthotropic anisotropic materials which are very useful in the daily life and their applications in earth science are greatly impacted by the findings of this study.

Originality/value

The authors of the submitted document initiated and produced it collectively, with equal contributions from all members.
