Abstract

Purpose

The study aims to empirically study the effect of venture capital on open innovation of China's enterprises.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper selects China's A-share listed companies on the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) board and the Growth Enterprise Market from 2014 to 2018 as research samples to empirically study the effect of venture capital on open innovation of China's enterprises.

Findings

The authors find that venture capital can significantly promote open innovation of enterprises. This promoting effect is more significant when the venture capital institutions have profounder industry experience, higher shareholding ratio and are syndicated. Further research finds that venture capital mainly promotes open innovation through three mechanisms: increasing monetary funds, improving absorptive capacity and strengthening executive incentives, and the effect of venture capital on open innovation is significantly different under the conditions of different regions, industries and property rights.

Originality/value

This paper not only reveals the effect of venture capital on enterprises' open innovation and the specific mechanism, but also provides empirical evidence for emerging economies to build a national innovation ecosystem and make use of capital markets to accelerate innovation strategies.

Abstract

Purpose

This study investigated the influence of teachers on undergraduate students’ development of research aspirations and the mechanisms behind this process.

Design/methodology/approach

Employing social cognitive career theory, the study gathered data from 232 undergraduates, developed a structural equation model via the maximum likelihood method and executed empirical testing.

Findings

The findings reveal that neither direct nor emotional mentoring independently satisfies students’ needs for self-efficacy and aspiration in research nor significantly influences research interest. Specifically, the study demonstrates that (1) research self-efficacy, outcome expectations and research interest significantly shape research aspirations; (2) an overemphasis on direct mentoring might impede research aspiration development and (3) a focus on emotional mentoring, while overlooking direct mentoring, could result in diminished research self-efficacy.

Originality/value

This research pioneers a comprehensive analysis of the role of teachers in shaping undergraduate research aspirations through the lens of social cognitive career theory. It underscores the critical need to both balance mentoring approaches and foster intrinsic research motivation.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to explore the internal interaction mechanism of marine scientific research and education, industrial structure upgrading and marine economic growth from a systematic perspective, based on which this work forecasts their future development trends.

Design/methodology/approach

In this study, a multivariate grey model is applied to the prediction of marine scientific research and education, industrial structure upgrading and marine economic growth. Considering the impact of the COVID-19 on marine development, this paper introduces the weakening buffer operator into MGM(1,m) and constructs the AWBO-MGM(1,m) model. To verify the validity and accuracy of the new model, this paper uses AWBO-MGM(1,m), MGM(1,m), GM(1,N), GM(1,1), back propagation neural network and linear regression models for simulation and prediction based on the data from 2010 to 2021, respectively.

Findings

From the theoretical perspective, the development of marine scientific research and education can accelerate industrial upgrading and promote marine economic growth by providing high-quality talents, promoting marine science and technology progress and reducing transaction costs; while the upgrading of marine industrial structure and marine economic growth can promote the development of marine scientific research and education by guiding social capital, enhancing talent demand and stimulating market vitality. From the empirical analysis, the AWBO-MGM(1,m) model can effectively deal with epidemic shocks and has higher fitting and prediction accuracy than the other five comparative models.

Practical implications

The government should pay attention to the construction of marine scientific research and education, so as to provide high-quality talents and advanced scientific research results for the high-quality development of marine economy. On the basis of using science and technology to firmly build the primary and secondary marine industries, the government should actively guide the labor, capital and other factors of production to the tertiary industry, thereby promoting the optimization and upgrading of marine industrial structure.

Originality/value

On the one hand, the interplay mechanism of marine scientific research and education, industrial structure upgrading and marine economic growth is analyzed from a systematic perspective; on the other hand, the enhanced AWBO-MGM(1,m) possesses higher forecasting performance and is applicable to the systemic multivariate forecasting problem in the presence of outstanding external shocks.

Abstract

Purpose

Japan's decision to release nuclear wastewater into the Pacific Ocean in 2023 has sparked strong opposition at home and abroad. In this study, Graph Model for Conflict Resolution (GMCR) method is adopted to analyze the conflict problem, and reasonable equilibrium solutions are given to solve the conflict event.

Design/methodology/approach

In this study, GMCR is adopted to solve the conflict problem. First, identify the key decision-makers (DMs) on the issue of nuclear effluent and the relevant options they might adopt. Second, the options of each DM are arranged and combined to form a set of feasible states. Thirdly, the graph model is constructed according to the change of DM's options, and the relative preference of each DM is determined. Finally, the conflict problem is solved according to the definition of GMCR equilibrium.

Findings

Discharging nuclear wastewater into the ocean is not the right choice to solve the problem. Developing more space to store nuclear wastewater is more conducive to the protection of the ocean environment.

Practical implications

It is undesirable for the Japanese government to unilaterally discharge nuclear wastewater into the ocean. Objectively assessing the radioactivity of nuclear wastewater and the cooperation of relevant stakeholders can better solve this conflict.

Originality/value

The problem arising from Japan's releasing plan is complicated because of a lack of information and the existence of multiple stakeholders, while GMCR can help us with a better view of the current circumstance in the conflict.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper represents an empirical study of how geographic proximity influences the search advantage and the transfer problem of interfirm networks.

Design/methodology/approach

By using the data collected from 226 Chinese manufacturing firms, this study examines the proposed hypotheses.

Findings

The authors’ findings suggest that (1) geographic proximity is an important antecedent for promoting knowledge transfer, whereas it lowers the degree of knowledge novelty; and (2) geographic proximity also moderates the effects of interfirm networks on knowledge novelty and knowledge transfer.

Originality/value

This study contributes the literature of interfirm network and provides practical implications by addressing the ways in which manufacturing firms can promote knowledge transfer and acquire novel knowledge.

Abstract

Purpose

The implementation of the national education and lifelong education should break through the traditional learning mode in the digital era. A seamless learning environment is the intelligent form of deep integration of digital learning environment and physical learning environment. The development and construction of seamless learning space and platform is a new trend of international mobile learning research and practice. So, the purpose of this paper is to build a seamless learning platform of the open education system by expanding and improving the connotation and extension of seamless learning, based on the theories of mobile learning, ubiquitous learning and open education, combining with the characteristics of the big data era.

Design/methodology/approach

A seamless learning platform model will be constructed through constructing five modules including resource integration module, requirement module, management module, teacher integration module, and carrier module, using interdisciplinary research methods (combined with economics), functional analysis, model methods and exploratory research methods. Finally, this paper attempts to realize the application of a seamless learning platform in open education through the strategic path of public-private partnership (PPP).

Findings

Seamless learning platform model given by this paper can effectively eliminate the problem of information asymmetry between learner-demander and educational manager through the effective management of carrier fusion module. Furthermore, it can effectively integrate the learning resources and teachers of the open education system and social individual education system, and provide high-quality shared learning resources and diverse stratification teachers to students and social workers through PPP project cooperation ways.

Originality/value

There are many papers on the study of open education and resource construction. However, few papers have studied how to effectively integrate and optimize various existing scattered online resources, including various system courses, teachers and platform systems. The paper provides an effective way to solve the above sub-problems and the realization path/model reference for the effective and accurate promotion of lifelong sustainable learning for all.

Abstract

Purpose

Stiffness control of redundant robot arm, aimed at using extra degrees of freedom (DoF) to shape the robot tool center point (TCP) elastomechanical behavior to be consistent with the essential requirements needed for a successful part mating process, i.e., to mimic part supporting mechanism with selective quasi-isotropic compliance (Remote Center of Compliance – RCC), with additional properties of inherent flexibility.

Design/methodology/approach

Theoretical analysis and synthesis of the complementary projector for null-space stiffness control of kinematically redundant robot arm. Practical feasibility of the proposed approach was proven by extensive computer simulations and physical experiments, based on commercially available 7 DoF SIA 10 F Yaskawa articulated robot arm, equipped with the open-architecture control system, system for generating excitation force, dedicated sensory system for displacement measurement and a system for real-time acquisition of sensory data.

Findings

Simulation experiments demonstrated convergence and stability of the proposed complementary projector. Physical experiments demonstrated that the proposed complementary projector can be implemented on the commercially available anthropomorphic redundant arm upgraded with open-architecture control system and that this projector has the capacity to efficiently affect the task-space TCP stiffness of the robot arm, with a satisfactory degree of consistency with the behavior obtained in the simulation experiments.

Originality/value

A novel complementary projector was synthesized based on the adopted objective function. Practical verification was conducted using computer simulations and physical experiments. For the needs of physical experiments, an adequate open-architecture control system was developed and upgraded through the implementation of the proposed complementary projector and an adequate system for generating excitation and measuring displacement of the robot TCP. Experiments demonstrated that the proposed complementary projector for null-space stiffness control is capable of producing the task-space TCP stiffness, which can satisfy the essential requirements needed for a successful part-mating process, thus allowing the redundant robot arm to mimic the RCC supporting mechanism behavior in a programmable manner.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to contribute to a better understanding of the relationship between the rework cycle with system dynamics (SD) models and the Project Management Institute (PMI) process group.

Design/methodology/approach

To achieve the aim of this paper, 84 articles that blended SD models and project management (PM) were analysed to identify key variables used in PM modelling. The key variables were utilised to build an extended SD model with multiple rework cycles to explain the link between the rework cycle SD model and PMI process group.

Findings

The results show that SD might be a favourable approach to capture the reality of the project life cycle when it is extended to represent front-ending, delivery and back-ending. In fact, SD models could potentially be extended to the agile and hybrid methodologies for improving the PM.

Research limitations/implications

Although this paper provides a better understanding about the extended project life cycle by SD modelling, the results reported herein should be considered in future research that comprises the design of a SD model considering the agile and hybrid methodologies for PM.

Practical implications

This paper shows how the rework cycle can be applied to the extended project life cycle and the PMI process groups. Additionally, it highlights why SD modelling is a crucial tool for assisting managers with long-term decision-making in PM.

Originality/value

This study is among the first to explore the integration of rework cycle SD models within the PMI process groups. Specifically, it may prove valuable in supporting decision-making for project managers at each stage of a project’s extended life cycle. As a result, the research also contributes to the ongoing discussion on integrating PM with sustainability and innovation considerations.

Propósito

Este artículo tiene como objetivo contribuir a una mejor comprensión de la relación entre el ciclo de retrabajo con modelos de dinámica de sistemas (DS) y el grupo de procesos del Instituto de Gestión de Proyectos (PMI, por su sigla en inglés).

Diseño/metodología/enfoque

Para lograr el objetivo de este artículo, se analizaron 84 artículos que combinaban modelos de DS y gestión de proyectos (PM, por su sigla en inglés) para identificar las variables clave utilizadas en el modelado de PM. Las variables clave se utilizaron para construir un modelo de DS extendido con múltiples ciclos de retrabajo para explicar el vínculo entre el modelo de DS del ciclo de retrabajo y el grupo de procesos de PMI.

Resultados

Los resultados muestran que la DS puede ser un enfoque favorable para capturar la realidad del ciclo de vida del proyecto cuando se extiende para representar el inicio, la entrega y el final. De hecho, los modelos DS podrían extenderse potencialmente a las metodologías ágiles e híbridas para mejorar la gestión de proyectos.

Limitaciones/implicaciones de la investigación

Aunque este documento proporciona una mejor comprensión sobre el ciclo de vida extendido del proyecto mediante el modelado de DS, los resultados informados aquí deben considerarse en futuras investigaciones que comprendan el diseño de un modelo DS considerando las metodologías ágiles e híbridas para la gestión de proyectos.

Implicaciones prácticas

Este documento muestra cómo se puede aplicar el ciclo de revisión al ciclo de vida extendido del proyecto y a los grupos de procesos de PMI. Además, el documento establece por qué el modelado DS es un enfoque importante para ayudar a los gerentes con la toma de decisiones gerenciales a largo plazo.

Originalidad/valor

Este estudio es uno de los primeros en explorar la integración de los modelos de DS de ciclo de trabajo dentro de los grupos de procesos PMI. Específicamente, puede ser valioso para apoyar la toma de decisiones para los gerentes de proyectos en cada etapa del ciclo de vida extendido de un proyecto. Como resultado, la investigación también contribuye a la discusión continua sobre la integración de la gestión de proyectos con consideraciones de sostenibilidad e innovación.
