Purpose
The purpose of this study is to explore how digital transformation helps enterprises achieve high-quality development, including the mediating mechanism of information transparency, innovation capacity and financial stability, the moderating role of financing constraints and government subsidies, and the heterogeneous effects of property rights, size and growth.
Design/methodology/approach
This study conducts two-way fixed-effect model using 780 samples of China's Shanghai-Shenzhen A-share listed companies from 2012 to 2019.
Findings
The results show that digital transformation can effectively improve the total factor productivity (TFP) of enterprises through the triple channels of information transparency, innovation capability and financial stability. Meanwhile, financing constraints significantly inhibited the contribution of digital transformation to TFP, while government subsidies significantly increased the contribution of digital transformation to TFP. In addition, state-owned enterprises (SOEs), large enterprises and high-growth enterprises are more able to achieve high-quality development by increasing their digital transformation.
Practical implications
In the process of implementing digital transformation, companies should actively improve information transparency, financial stability and innovation capabilities, and choose differentiated paths based on intrinsic characteristics such as property rights, scale and growth. At the same time, the government should actively improve not only the digital institutional environment but also the financial policy and credit system.
Originality/value
This study enriches the theoretical research framework of digital transformation and high-quality development by identifying the channel mechanisms and boundary conditions through which digital transformation affects high-quality development and expands the consequences of digital transformation and the antecedents of high-quality development.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to examine the joint effect of internal quality integration and product innovation on financial performance by considering the mediating roles of incremental and radical product innovation.
Design/methodology/approach
A theoretical framework was developed using the organizational capability view. Based on empirical survey data collected from 209 Chinese manufacturing firms, this research uses structural equation modeling and the bootstrapping method to test hypotheses.
Findings
The results show that internal quality integration positively impacts incremental and radical product innovation and financial performance. Further, incremental product innovation can promote radical product innovation. Both incremental and radical product innovation partially mediate the relationship between internal quality integration and financial performance.
Practical implications
The findings provide practical guidance for manufacturing companies to engage in quality integration and product innovation. Managers should encourage the internal functional departments to coordinate quality integration while promoting incremental and radical product innovation to occupy a larger market and achieve higher performance.
Originality/value
This research contributes to the literature in two ways. First, this study expands the theoretical research framework of the joint effects of quality integration and product innovation on financial performance. Second, through testing the mediating role of product innovation, this study provides empirical evidence for the intermediate role of internal quality integration for improving financial performance.

Purpose
In order to achieve the desired macroscopic mechanical properties of woven fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) materials, it is necessary to conduct a detailed analysis of their microscopic load-bearing capacity.
Design/methodology/approach
Utilizing the representative volume element (RVE) model, this study delves into how the material composition influences mechanical parameters and failure processes.
Findings
To study the ultimate strength of the materials, this study considers the damage situation in various parts and analyzes the stress-strain curves under uniaxial and multiaxial loading conditions. Furthermore, the study investigates the degradation of macroscopic mechanical properties of fiber and resin layers due to fatigue induced performance degradation. Additionally, the research explores the impact of fatigue damage on key material properties such as the elastic modulus, shear modulus and Poisson's ratio.
Originality/value
By studying the load-bearing mechanisms at different scales, a direct correlation is established between the macroscopic mechanical behavior of the material and the microstructure of woven FRP materials. This comprehensive analysis ultimately elucidates the material's mechanical response under conditions of fatigue damage.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to test the causal relationship between urban-biased policy and urban-rural income gap and further examine the moderating role of government intervention.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on the provincial Government Work Reports and the long-term policy practice of implementing the target responsibility system, the authors construct a unique indicator of urban-biased policy in China. Further, applying the panel data of 30 Chinese provinces in 2003–2018, the authors explore the causal relationship between urban-biased policy and urban-rural income gap.
Findings
The results show that urban-biased policy has contributed to the widen urban-rural income gap in China, which supports Lipton's urban-biased hypothesis. Further research shows that the stronger the government intervention, the bigger the role of urban-biased policy in widening urban-rural income gap.
Originality/value
On the one hand, this study not only investigates the direct effect of urban-biased policy on urban-rural income gap, but also examines the moderating effect from the perspective of government intervention, which helps to enrich the relevant studies of urban-biased theory. On the other hand, the authors' findings provide the latest empirical evidence for urban-biased policy to widen urban-rural income gap and presents a reference and warning for China and other developing countries about balancing the relationship between equity and efficiency during economic development.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to propose an accurate and practical imitation learning for robotics. The modified dynamic movement primitives (DMPs), global fitting DMPs (GLDMPs), is presented. Framework design, theoretical derivation and stability proof of GLDMPs are discussed in the paper.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on the DMPs, the hierarchical iterative parameter adaptive framework is developed as the hierarchical iteration stage of the GLDMPs to tune the designed parameters adaptively to extract richer features. Inspired by spatial transformations, the coupling analytical module which can be regarded as a reversible transformation is proposed to analyze the high-dimensional coupling information and transfer it to trajectory.
Findings
With the proposed framework and module, DMPs derive majority features of the demonstration and cope with three-dimensional rotations. Moreover, GLDMPs achieve favorable performance without specialized knowledge. The modified method has been demonstrated to be stable and convergent through inference.
Originality/value
GLDMPs have an advantage in accuracy, adaptability and practicality for it is capable of adaptively computing parameters to extract richer features and handling variations in coupling information. With demonstration and simple parameter settings, GLDMPs can exhibit excellent and stable performance, accomplish learning and generalize in other regions. The proposed framework and module in the paper are useful for imitation learning in robotics and could be intuitive for similar imitation learning methods.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to demonstrate how skills taxonomies can be used in combination with machine learning to integrate diverse online datasets and reveal skills gaps. The purpose of this study is then to show how the skills gaps revealed by the integrated datasets can be used to achieve better labour market alignment, keep educational offerings up to date and assist graduates to communicate the value of their qualifications.
Design/methodology/approach
Using the ESCO taxonomy and natural language processing, this study captures skills data from three types of online data (job ads, course descriptions and resumes), allowing us to compare demand for skills and supply of skills for three different occupations.
Findings
This study illustrates three practical applications for the integrated data, showing how they can be used to help workers who are disrupted by technology to identify alternative career pathways, assist educators to identify gaps in their course offerings and support students to communicate the value of their training to employers.
Originality/value
This study builds upon existing applications of machine learning (detecting skills from a single dataset) by using the skills taxonomy to integrate three datasets. This study shows how these complementary, big datasets can be integrated to support greater alignment between the needs and offerings of educators, employers and job seekers.

Abstract
Purpose
In 2020, an outbreak of Salmonella Stanley linked to imported dried wood ear mushrooms affected 55 individuals in the United States of America. These mushrooms, commonly used in Asian cuisine, require processing, like rehydration and cutting, before serving. The US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention advise food preparers to use boiling water for rehydration to inactivate vegetative bacterial pathogens. Little is known about how food handlers prepare this ethnic ingredient and which handling procedures could enable Salmonella proliferation.
Design/methodology/approach
This study used content analysis to investigate handling practices for dried wood ear mushrooms as demonstrated in YouTube recipe videos and to identify food safety implications during handling of the product. A total of 125 Chinese- and English-language YouTube videos were analysed.
Findings
Major steps in handling procedures were identified, including rehydration, cutting/tearing and blanching. Around 62% of the videos failed to specify the water temperature for rehydration. Only three videos specified a water temperature of 100 °C for rehydrating the mushrooms, and 36% of the videos did not specify the soaking duration. Only one video showed handwashing, cleaning and sanitising of surfaces when handling the dried wood ear mushrooms.
Practical implications
This study found that most YouTube videos provided vague and inconsistent descriptions of the rehydration procedure, including water temperature and soaking duration. Food preparers were advised to use boiling water for rehydration to inactivate vegetative bacterial pathogens. However, boiling water alone is insufficient to inactivate all bacterial spores. Extended periods of soaking and storage could be of concern for spore germination and bacterial growth. More validation studies need to be conducted to provide guidance on how to safely handle the mushrooms.
Originality/value
This study will make a distinctive contribution to the field of food safety by being the first to investigate the handling procedure of a unique ethnic food ingredient, dried wood ear mushrooms, which has been linked to a previous outbreak and multiple recalls in the United States of America. The valuable data collected from this study can help target food handling education as well as influence future microbial validation study design and risk assessment.
