Abstract
Purpose
Higher energy conversion efficiency of internal combustion engine can be achieved with optimal control of unsteady in-cylinder flow fields inside a direct-injection (DI) engine. However, it remains a daunting task to predict the nonlinear and transient in-cylinder flow motion because they are highly complex which change both in space and time. Recently, machine learning methods have demonstrated great promises to infer relatively simple temporal flow field development. This paper aims to feature a physics-guided machine learning approach to realize high accuracy and generalization prediction for complex swirl-induced flow field motions.
Design/methodology/approach
To achieve high-fidelity time-series prediction of unsteady engine flow fields, this work features an automated machine learning framework with the following objectives: (1) The spatiotemporal physical constraint of the flow field structure is transferred to machine learning structure. (2) The ML inputs and targets are efficiently designed that ensure high model convergence with limited sets of experiments. (3) The prediction results are optimized by ensemble learning mechanism within the automated machine learning framework.
Findings
The proposed data-driven framework is proven effective in different time periods and different extent of unsteadiness of the flow dynamics, and the predicted flow fields are highly similar to the target field under various complex flow patterns. Among the described framework designs, the utilization of spatial flow field structure is the featured improvement to the time-series flow field prediction process.
Originality/value
The proposed flow field prediction framework could be generalized to different crank angle periods, cycles and swirl ratio conditions, which could greatly promote real-time flow control and reduce experiments on in-cylinder flow field measurement and diagnostics.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to investigate how compatibility between supply chain partners’ technological systems, as well as cultural and operational values, enhance supply chain process integration. Additionally, the paper examines whether supply chain capabilities mediate the relationship between supply chain process integration and organizational performance. The contradictory findings on the relationship between supply chain process integration and organizational performance in prior research point to the need for investigating the possibility of supply chain capabilities having a mediating effect on the link between the two factors.
Design/methodology/approach
The study used survey data from 302 managers and executives responsible for supply chain functions in food and hardware retailing businesses in Australia. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to test the proposed hypotheses, and then Zhao et al.’s (2010) procedure was used to test for mediation effects.
Findings
The results indicate that technical, operational and cultural compatibility facilitates supply chain process integration. In support of dynamic capabilities theory, the study reveals the importance of integrating resources among supply chain partners to achieve supply chain capabilities, operational and competitive performance. Additionally, the current study found supply chain capabilities to play a mediating role on the relationships between supply chain process integration and organizational performance.
Originality/value
The paper contributes to supply chain management literature by identifying technical, operational and cultural compatibility as antecedents to supply chain process integration. By revealing the mediating role of supply chain capabilities, the paper highlights how supply chain process integration enhance operational and competitive performance.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is twofold: first, to clarify what specific behaviors are involved in consumers' partial switching in mobile application (app) usage, and, second, to explore the common and differential motivations of these behaviors.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper specified two behaviors in consumers' partial switching in mobile app usage, trialing and combining behaviors, and conceptualized them as different types of variety seeking behaviors. A theoretical model contrasting intrinsic motivations and extrinsic motivations on the two behaviors was developed and tested with a sample of 561 mobile app users in China.
Findings
The findings showed that both trialing and combining behaviors could be motivated by intrinsic individual-related and extrinsic technology-related factors. Besides, intrinsic individual-related factors were more effective in motivating trialing behavior, whereas extrinsic technology-related factors were more effective in motivating combining behavior. All these findings are applicable and consistent in both hedonic and utilitarian apps.
Originality/value
This study extends and advances the literature on information technology switching by investigating consumer use behaviors from a new perspective of partial switching and multiple competing apps usage. This study also contributes to variety seeking literature by extending the understanding of variety seeking to the context of mobile app usage. Finally, by investigating the associations and distinctions of trialing and combining behavior, this study not only helps to fully understand the partial switching but also enriches the understanding of different types of variety seeking behaviors.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the influence of nutritional information on menu choices in a higher educational setting using a menu designed by the students themselves.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on USDA healthy eating standards, a menu comprising seven healthy and seven unhealthy meal options were presented, once unlabeled as control (n=214) and once labeled with healthy and non-healthy nutrient icons as an intervention test menu (n=212).
Findings
Findings demonstrate that despite a positive observed trend, there were no significant differences between healthy selection of labeled and unlabeled dishes (p=0.16).
Practical implications
Providing nutritional information in student cafeterias may be challenging but helpful. However, more strategies need to be developed with student input to provide nutrition data on menus in an informative, comprehensive, yet friendly way that encourages healthy eating in campus foodservices.
Social implications
No labeling system or legislation can control choices made by individuals, so the responsibility for a healthy selection must always remain personal. However, consumers should have input on menus as they have a stake in the outcome of the products.
Originality/value
This novel study tested a student-designed menu to assess whether user input can influence food choice.

Purpose
This study aims to clarify the risk management practices of banks as supply chain finance (SCF) service providers.
Design/methodology/approach
Using 4,014 evaluation and approval reports, this study constructed five risk management factors and examined their functions with secondary data. Two text-mining techniques (i.e. word sense induction, TF–IDF) were used to equip the classic routine of dictionary-based content analysis.
Findings
This research successfully identified four important risk management factors: relationship-based assessment, asset monitoring, cash flow monitoring and supply chain collaboration. The default-preventing effect of these factors are different and contingent on the type of financing contexts (i.e. preshipment, postshipment).
Practical implications
The empirical evidences provide practical implications for SCF service providers to manage risk. SCF service providers are suggested to pay more attention to cash flow monitoring when providing postshipment financing services and shift the focus to relationship building and supply chain collaboration when providing preshipment financing services.
Originality/value
The study shows that a large volume of textual materials can provide adequate clues for researches as long as they are mined with suitable analytic techniques and approaches. Based on the results, SCF service providers can identify problems of their operations and directions for improvement. In addition, the risk management vocabulary from the E&A reports can be utilized by SCF service providers to digitize their loan approving process and, further, to facilitate the decision-makings.

Purpose
The purpose of the current paper is to examine the relationship between storescape (retail's physical and social environment factors) and customer loyalty (CL) and how employee citizenship behaviour towards customer (ECB-C) facilitates this relationship.
Design/methodology/approach
This study used a descriptive quantitative, non-experimental research method using a cross-sectional design with a self-administered questionnaire. In total, 415 department store customers in Australia responded to the survey through an online panel provider.
Findings
Results confirmed the significance of all relationships between physical and social storescape factors, customer satisfaction (CS) and loyalty, except the direct effect of physical factors on CL. The findings also highlighted the interaction effect of ECB-C in the relationship between storescape factors, satisfaction and CL, indicating that these effects are stronger at higher levels of ECB-C than lower levels.
Practical implications
The study provides insights for department store retailers, practitioners and marketing managers into the role of ECB-C in forming and shaping CS and loyalty, especially when there is a lack of storescape effect on CS and loyalty.
Originality/value
This study extends the consecutive relationship of the stimulus–organism–response (SOR) model by adding ECB-C as a moderator. The study employed resource exchange (RE) theory to investigate the direct effect of storescape on CL beyond its indirect effect through organism suggested by the SOR model.

Abstract
Purpose
For high crack-susceptibility materials such as Inconel 713LC (IN713LC) nickel alloy, fabricating crack-free components using the laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) technique represents a significant challenge because of the complex interactions between the effects of the main processing parameters, namely, the laser power and scanning speed. Accordingly, this study aims to build up a methodology which combines simulation model and experimental approach to fabricate high-density (>99.9%) IN713LC components using LPBF process.
Design/methodology/approach
The present study commences by performing three-dimensional (3D) heat transfer finite element simulations to predict the LPBF outcome (e.g. melt pool depth, temperature and mushy zone extent) for 33 representative sample points chosen within the laser power and scanning speed design space. The simulation results are used to train a surrogate model to predict the LPBF result for any combination of the processing conditions within the design space. Then, experimental trials were performed to choose the proper hatching space and also to define the high crack susceptibility criterion. The process map is then filtered in accordance with five quality criteria, namely, avoiding the keyhole phenomenon, improving the adhesion between the melt pool and the substrate, ensuring single-scan-track stability, avoiding excessive melt pool evaporation and suppressing the formation of micro-cracks, to determine the region of the process map which improves the relative density of the IN713LC component and minimizes the micro-cracks. The optimal processing conditions are used to fabricate IN713LC specimens for tensile testing purposes.
Findings
The optimal processing conditions predicted by simulation model are used to fabricate IN713LC specimens for tensile testing purposes. Experimental results show that the tensile strength and elongation of 3D-printed IN713LC tensile bar is higher than those of tensile bar made by casting. The yield strength of 791 MPa, ultimate strength of 995 MPa, elongation of 12%, and relative density of 99.94% are achieved.
Originality/value
The present study proposed a systematic methodology to find the processing conditions that are able to minimize the formation of micro-crack and improve the density of the high crack susceptivity metal material in LPBF process.

Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues have recently received much attention. This research investigates the daily performance of socially responsible investment (SRI). To do that, the authors construct portfolios consisting of the SRI, non-SRI, and matched non-SRI. The portfolios can be compared with the market benchmark based on α adjusted asset pricing models. Due to using high-frequency data, the authors use ARCH/GARCH to deal with time-varying volatility. Moreover, the authors also utilized Fama–MacBeth pooled regression to confront the SRI stocks and the non-SRI counterpart. In sum, the findings of this study confirm the superior performance of the value-weighted (VW) SRI portfolio against the market. On a head-to-head basis, the SRI yields a higher return than the non-SRI. The results are robust in the quarterly analysis. It is essential for investors that put their money in socially responsible (SR) portfolios to either promote sustainable development or chase a return on it.

Abstract
Purpose
Behavioral finance and market microstructure studies suggest that the investor sentiment and liquidity are related. This paper aims to examine the aggregate sentiment–liquidity relationship in emerging markets (EMs) for both the sample period and crisis period. Then, it verifies this relationship, using the asymmetric sentiment.
Design/methodology/approach
This study uses a sample consisting of stocks listed on the SSE Shanghai composite index (348 stocks), the JKSE (118 stocks), the IPC (14 stocks), the RTS (12 stocks), the WSE (106 stocks) and FTSE/JSE Africa (76 stocks). This is for the period ranging from February, 2002 until March, 2021 (230 monthly observations). We use the panel data and apply generalized method-of-moments (GMM) of dynamic panel estimators.
Findings
The empirical analysis shows the following results: first, it demonstrates a significant relationship between the aggregate investor sentiment and the stock market liquidity for the sample period and crisis one. Second, referring to the asymmetric sentiment, we have empirically given proof that the market is significantly more liquid in times of the optimistic sentiment than it is in times of the pessimistic sentiment. Third, using panel causality tests, we document a unidirectional causality between the investor sentiment and liquidity in a direct manner through the noise traders and the irrational market makers and also a bidirectional causality in an indirect channel.
Practical implications
The results reported in this paper have implications for regulators and investors in EMs. Firstly, the study informs the regulators that the increases and decreases in the stock market liquidity are related to the investor sentiment, not financial shocks. We empirically evince that the traded value is higher in the crisis. Secondly, we inform insider traders and rational market makers that the persistence of increases in the trading activity in both quiet and turbulent times is associated with investor participants such as noise traders and irrational market makers.
Originality/value
The originality of this work lies in employing the asymmetric sentiment (optimistic/pessimistic) in order to denote the sentiment–liquidity relationship in EMs for the sample period and the 2007–2008 subprime crisis.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to understand the effect of hydrolysis by pepsin and pancreatin on the angiotensin-I-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activity of bioactive peptide from pigeon pea tempe and the absorption of pigeon pea tempe peptide by using the everted gut sac method.
Design/methodology/approach
The tempe was prepared by inoculating Raprima (Rhizopus oligosporus) on hulled-cooked pigeon pea for 48 h. The extraction was performed using the ultrasonic method at 40 kHz frequency and 100% ultrasonic power for 10 min. The extracted protein was placed in simulated gastrointestinal digestion using consecutive pepsin–pancreatin for 240 min. The hydrolysates were fractionated using a dialysis tube, and its absorption was assessed using the everted Sprague–Dawley rat gut sac.
Findings
The tempe protein from the hydrolyzed pigeon pea exhibited higher ACE inhibitory (71.53%) activity than that from the boiled pigeon pea (53.04%) (p = 0.028). The bioactive peptide of the digested pigeon pea tempe consisted of low-molecular-weight peptides (<1 kDa). The fraction also showed the highest ACE inhibition activity among the others (IC50 = 0.61 mg/mL, p = 0.021). Bioactive peptides from pigeon pea tempe were absorbed well in the small intestine, mainly in the jejunum. The activity of the absorbed peptides did not change considerably.
Originality/value
The activity of bioactive peptide of pigeon pea tempe was comparatively stable during digestion. It exhibited activity even after absorption in the small intestine. Thus, pigeon pea tempe can serve as an antihypertensive peptide source and alternative food for maintaining/reducing blood pressure.
