Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to propose an improved reinforcement learning-based fuzzy-PID controller for load frequency control (LFC) of an island microgrid.
Design/methodology/approach
To evaluate the performance of the proposed controller, three different types of controllers including optimal proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller, optimal fuzzy PID controller and the proposed reinforcement learning-based fuzzy-PID controller are compared. Optimal PID controller and classic fuzzy-PID controller parameters are tuned using Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm-II algorithm to minimize overshoot, settling time and integral square error over a wide range of load variations. The simulations are carried out using MATLAB/SIMULINK package.
Findings
Simulation results indicated the superiority of the proposed reinforcement learning-based controller over fuzzy-PID and optimal-PID controllers in the same operational conditions.
Originality/value
In this paper, an improved reinforcement learning-based fuzzy-PID controller is proposed for LFC of an island microgrid. The main advantage of the reinforcement learning-based controllers is their hardiness behavior along with uncertainties and parameters variations. Also, they do not need any knowledge about the system under control; thus, they can control any large system with high nonlinearities.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to empirically study the relationship between intellectual capital (IC) components (human, structural, and physical capitals) with the traditional measures of performance of the firm (profitability, productivity and market valuation) within the pharmaceutical sector of Iran.
Design/methodology/approach
The empirical data were drawn from pharma companies listed in the Iranian Stock Exchange (ISE), over the six‐year period of 2004 to 2009. The analysis of correlation, simple linear multiple regression and artificial neural networks (ANNs) were applied for analyzing any existing relationship between variables in the present study.
Findings
The analysis indicates that the relationships between the performance of a company's IC and conventional performance indicators are varied. The findings suggest that the performance of a company's IC can explain profitability but not productivity and market valuation in Iran. Also the empirical analysis found that physical capital (VACA) was the one which was seen to have the major impact on the profitability of the firms over the period of study, in addition the result of ANN method also confirmed findings of multiple regression.
Practical implications
There is an immediate need for policy makers and corporate managers wake up to the need to start disclosure of the IC of firms. IC measurement is of primary interest for top executives of pharmaceutical firms in Iran.
Originality/value
This is an initial and pioneering study to evaluate the IC and its relationship with the traditional measures of corporate performance in the Iranian pharmaceutical industry. The present study provides a new aspect of performance measurement for research‐based industries in emerging economies and would be a good topic for further research.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to analyze the accuracy of the single and two-phase numerical methods for calculation of ferrofluid convective heat transfer in the presence of a magnetic field. The findings of current study are compared with previous single-phase numerical results and experimental data. Accordingly, the effect of various parameters including nanoparticles concentration, Reynolds number and magnetic field strength on the performance of the single and two-phase models are evaluated.
Design/methodology/approach
A two-phase mixture numerical study is carried out to investigate the influence of four U-shaped electromagnets on the hydrodynamic and thermal characteristics of Fe3O4/Water ferrofluid flowing inside a heated channel.
Findings
It is observed that the applied external magnetic field signifies the convective heat transfer from the channel surface, despite local reduction at a few locations. The maximum heat transfer enhancement is predicted as 23% and 25% using single and two-phase models, respectively. The difference between the results of the two models is mainly attributed to the slip velocity effect which is accounted for in the two-phase model. The magnetic field gradient leads to a significant increase in the slip velocity which in turn causes a slight difference in velocity and temperature profiles obtained by the single and two-phase models in the magnetic field region. According to percentage error calculation, the two-phase method is generally more accurate than the single-phase method. However, the percentage error of both models improves by decreasing either magnetic field intensity or Reynolds number.
Originality/value
For the first time in the literature, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, the current work analyzes the accuracy of the single and two phase numerical methods for calculation of ferrofluid convective heat transfer in the presence of a magnetic field.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims at discovering the traditional techniques of Persian architecture for covering large-span spaces with a kind of ribbed vault titled “Karbandi”. This structure is generated by intersecting several arches with a harmonic stellar geometry. Preliminary studies show that span factor affects the structural form of karbandi and large-span cases, despite similar architectural forms, have different structural systems and specific construction methods. The main focus of this paper is how karbandi has been designed and built on large-spans. To answer this question, the configuration and construction of a large-span karbandi in Tabriz Bazaar were recognized.
Design/methodology/approach
Data collection of the research was initially done in three parallel directions through the archival study of restoration documents, direct observation of the corpus of the vaultings and interviews with the master mason of the Haj-Mohammad-Qoli Timche restoration team. Then by cross-referencing the gathered data, the construction process of the karbandi was simulated in Rhino 6 and Grasshoppers software and its BIM-M models were created in three levels of development: LOD300, LOD350 and LOD400. In the next step, the preliminary BIM-M models of the karbandi were presented to the interviewed mason and revised and completed based on his comments.
Findings
Analyzing the BIM models by reverse engineering, resulted in (1) Discovering a unique self-supporting masonry construction method applied for the erection of karbandi vaulting on large-spans. (2) Finding the effect of scale factor on the architectural and structural form of the karbandi vault. (3) Discovering the connection types of the karbandi vault based on the construction details.
Originality/value
Despite the wide applications of karbandi vaults throughout history, very little information of their construction techniques is available. The techniques have mostly been experientially and orally passed down from masters to apprentices and rarely been documented. The quest to design and construct a karbandi vault is therefore like solving a puzzle whose most important guide is historical cases. Due to the geometric complexity of karbandi and its ability to cover large-span spaces, solving the puzzle can lead to achieving some technical ideas for masonry cross-ribbed vaulting. A great riddle of the karbandi vaults is how to design and build them on a large span.

Purpose
The aim of this paper is to review and categorise the body of existing research in order to better understand the state of food tourism. The primary objective of this study is to identify emerging themes in the area of food tourism and to highlight the relationships among them.
Design/methodology/approach
This research consists of a systematic literature review of academic articles from the Scopus and Web of Science databases.
Findings
Ten themes of Food Tourism emerged from the analysis, i.e. Food Tourism and Local Food, Food Tourism and Sustainability, Food Tourism and Economy, Food Tourism and Food waste management, Food Tourism and Culture, Food Tourism and Environment, Food Tourism and Information Technology, Food Tourism and COVID-19, Food Tourism and Post pandemic consumer trust and Food Tourism and Tourism and Hospitality sector.
Research limitations/implications
This study elaborates on the theoretical pieces of evidence on the connection between food and tourism. Not only limited to food tourism, but this paper also contributes to the literature in the area of economy, sustainability, post-COVID-19, food waste management, environment and technological innovations in food tourism.
Originality/value
This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the topic at hand. The study begins by systematically examining the topic to offer a thorough and in-depth analysis of food tourism. There is not a single study which has covered these many themes of food tourism, which makes it an important contribution to the literature.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to explore the structural relationship between experiential loyalty and its seven drivers – interaction quality, physical environment quality, outcome quality, affective quality, experiential quality, experiential trust and experiential satisfaction in the context of Islamic banks.
Design/methodology/approach
The data used in this study were based on a convenience sample of 474 respondents from Jakarta, Bogor and Depok in Indonesia.
Findings
Interaction quality, physical environment quality and outcome quality positively influence experiential quality, which in turn, leads to experiential trust. Also, experiential trust has a positive influence on experiential satisfaction. Both experiential trust and experiential satisfaction are determinants of experiential loyalty.
Practical implications
The results will assist Islamic bank management in developing and implementing market-orientated service strategies to increase interaction quality, physical environment quality, outcome quality, affective quality experiential quality, experiential trust and experiential satisfaction in order to increase experiential loyalty.
Originality/value
This paper provides data that result in a better understanding of the relationships among interaction quality, physical environment quality, outcome quality, affective quality, experiential quality, experiential trust, experiential satisfaction and experiential loyalty in the context of Islamic banks.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to explore the relationship between the objectives of Islamic banking, customer satisfaction and customer loyalty in the South African context. Diving deep, this study also explores the relationship between customer satisfaction and customer loyalty.
Design/methodology/approach
Purposive and snowball sampling techniques were used, resulting in 163 respondents participating in this study. The data was collected using an online survey and analysed using a structural equation model based on the partial least squares method.
Findings
The results indicate that the construct related to the objectives of Islamic banking influences both customer satisfaction and customer loyalty. In addition, customer satisfaction is also found to influence a customer’s loyalty to the Islamic bank.
Originality/value
In South Africa, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is the first of its kind; thus, the results provide context-specific insights into the extant literature on Islamic banking for Muslims residing in a non-Muslim majority country.

Abstract
Purpose
One of the main challenge when launching new banking services is to overcome resistance to change so as to accelerate market acceptance. This is the case of an Islamic credit card (ICC). Grounded in innovation diffusion theory (IDT) and theory of reasoned action (TRA), this paper aims to study the purposes and empirically tests an integrated model to explore, which factors influence of ICC.
Design/methodology/approach
Partial least squares and structural equation modeling was used to assess the hypotheses. Accordingly, the empirical results, obtained in a sample of 762 bank customers.
Findings
Intentions to use of ICC are mostly determined by relative advantage, compatibility, customer awareness, satisfaction and attitude. The combination of IDT and TRA significantly explain the ICC adoption.
Originality/value
This research has provided a theoretical understanding of the ICC adoption determinants with the intent of promoting a more in-depth understanding of various elements influencing acceptance and usage of this Islamic banking service.
