Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to study the mechanical, tribological and electrical properties of the copper-graphene (Cu-Gn) composites fabricated by a novel rapid tooling technique consist of three-dimensional printing and ultrasonic-assisted pressureless sintering (UAPS).
Design/methodology/approach
Four different Cu-Gn compositions with 0.25, 0.5, 1 and 1.5 per cent of graphene were fabricated using an amalgamation of three-dimensional printing and UAPS. The polymer 3d printed parts were used to prepare mould cavity and later the UAPS process was used to sinter Cu-Gn powder to acquire free-form shape. The density, hardness, wear rate, coefficient of friction and electrical conductivity were evaluated for the different compositions of graphene and compared with the pure copper. Besides, the comparison was performed with the conventional method.
Findings
Cu-Gn composites revealed excellent wear properties due to higher hardness, and the lubrication provided by the graphene. The electrical conductivity of the fabricated Cu-Gn composites started increasing initially but decreased afterwards with increasing the content of graphene. The UAPS fabricated composites outperformed the conventional method manufactured samples with better properties such as density, hardness, wear rate, coefficient of friction and electrical conductivity due to homogeneous mixing of metal particles and graphene.
Originality/value
The fabrication of Cu-Gn composite freeform shapes was found to be difficult using conventional methods. The novel technique using a combination of polymer three-dimensional printing and UAPS as rapid tooling was introduced for the fabrication of freeform shapes of Cu-Gn composites and mechanical, tribological and electrical properties were studied. The method can be used to fabricate optimized complex Cu-Gn structures with improved wear and electrical applications.

Abstract
Purpose
Physical properties of a viscous fluid, e.g. viscosity and thermal conductivity change with temperature and in most of the studies concerned with natural convection, generally, the simultaneous effect of temperature dependent viscosity, thermal conductivity have been neglected. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to investigate the simultaneous effects of varying viscosity and thermal conductivity on free convection flow of a viscous incompressible electrically conducting fluid and heat transfer along an isothermal vertical non‐conducting plate in the presence of exponentially varying internal heat‐generation and uniform transverse magnetic field.
Design/methodology/approach
The governing equations of motion and energy are transformed into ordinary differential equations using similarity transformation. The resulting boundary valued, coupled and non‐linear differential equations are converted into system of linear differential equations and solved using Runge‐Kutta fourth order technique along with shooting method.
Findings
It was found that: fluid velocity decreases with the increase in magnetic parameter or Prandtl number; fluid temperature increases with the increase in magnetic parameter; velocity and temperature profiles increase due to increase in heat generation parameter; varying viscosity and thermal conductivity modifies the flow and heat transfer characteristic; and skin‐friction and heat transfer are affected by simultaneous change in viscosity and thermal conductivity in presence/absence of exponentially varying heat generation.
Research limitations/implications
The present study is applicable to an incompressible viscous fluid flow and heat transfer with linearly varying viscosity and thermal conductivity.
Originality/value
This paper provides useful information on the physical properties of a viscous fluid with regard to viscosity and thermal conductivity change with temperature.

Abstract
In recent decades, it has become clear that the major economic, political, and social problems in the world require contemporary development research to examine intersections of race and class in the global economy. Theorists in the Black Radical Tradition (BRT) were the first to develop and advance a powerful research agenda that integrated race–class analyses of capitalist development. However, over time, progressive waves of research streams in development studies have successively stripped these concepts from their analyses. Post-1950s, class analyses of development overlapped with some important features of the BRT, but removed race. Post-1990s, ethnicity-based analyses of development excised both race and class. In this chapter, I discuss what we learn about capitalist development using the integrated race–class analyses of the BRT, and how jettisoning these concepts weakens our understanding of the political economy of development. To remedy our current knowledge gaps, I call for applying insights of the BRT to our analyses of the development trajectories of nations.
