Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to improve the stability and dyeing properties of natural curcumin by adsorption packaging technology, and promote the clean dyeing technology of wool fabrics.

Design/methodology/approach

The response surface method was used to optimize the dyeing process of wool fabrics. The color fastnesses and the K/S value of the dyed wool fabrics were tested and analyzed, as well as the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observation of wool fibers.

Findings

The mordant dyeing method was optimized using the response surface method under pH 3.5 and a 1:50 dye bath ratio. The results showed that the mordant dyeing method was one-bath, two-step post-mordant and the optimized dyeing process was as follows: dyeing time 70 min, dyeing temperature 70°C and the dosage of mordant was 2% and yielding a K/S value of 35.22. The dyed wool had excellent rub and wash fastness (grade 4+), but inadequate light fastness, to be improved later. The results of SEM demonstrated that the optimized dyeing processes had no adverse effects on wool fibers.

Originality/value

No comprehensive and systematic study reports have been conducted on the dyeing process of wool fabric using natural curcumin pigment, which is adsorbed and packaged by ZIF-8, and researchers have not used statistical analysis to optimize the dyeing process using response surface methodology.

Abstract

Purpose

This study explores the factors influencing the value of enterprise social media (ESM) from the perspective of compatibility. Establishing a theoretical model based on compatibility theory, the authors examine the effects of two dimensions of compatibility and the mediating effects of employees' intrinsic motivations. ESM is an important tool that helps companies to enhance knowledge sharing and cross-department collaboration. Thus, it is important to understand factors that can facilitate the role of ESM in improving enterprise operating performance.

Design/methodology/approach

The authors conducted a survey among 353 users of a leading ESM platform and empirically investigated how compatibility influences ESM value through employees' intrinsic motivations. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was applied to study the relationship among compatibility, employees' intrinsic motivations and ESM value.

Findings

The empirical research results indicate that compatibility of self-interest with group interest influences the value of ESM, and intrinsic motivations toward collaboration and toward knowledge management partially mediate the effects of the two dimensions of compatibility on ESM value.

Research limitations/implications

First, the empirical analysis relies on data from surveying employees of Chinese companies. Therefore, one direction for future research is to reexamine the model using data from other countries. Second, the effects of compatibility identified in the study may vary among different ESM platforms. In addition, the findings may change for organizations having different sizes.

Practical implications

This finding suggests that managers should pay close attention to potential conflicts of interest when implementing ESM to enhance group communication and collaboration. This study also highlights the importance of compatibility of new working processes with experience in practice. In addition, intrinsic motivations towards both cooperation and knowledge management in ESM are important factors influencing the value creation of ESM. Therefore, to cultivate employees' intrinsic motivation, managers and organizations need to facilitate the formation of a collaborative atmosphere and habits of cooperative adoption.

Originality/value

Although previous studies show that compatibility is a strong belief salient to technology acceptance and continuance usage behavior, the operational definition of compatibility developed by prior studies has generally been limited to the technology perspective and the individual level. However, the primary benefit of ESM is enabling online team collaboration and knowledge sharing across various departments. Thus, the level of compatibility between employees' self-interests and group interests may influence their intrinsic motivations toward ESM usage. From this perspective of individual–group interest conflicts, the authors propose a conceptual research model based on the theory of compatibility in innovation diffusion.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to study the frictional performance of reciprocating pair with high velocity by using hydrodynamic lubrication principle and fish scale textured piston model.

Design/methodology/approach

Based on the idea of function characteristic approximation and coordinate change, a mathematical representation model of imitating fish scale texture pit section is established. According to the principle of dynamic pressure lubrication of the textured fluid, a three-dimensional numerical model of flow field for fish scale texture is established without considering cavitation. Numerical analysis of the model carp scale texture unit by orthogonal experimental design and FLUENT software is carried out.

Findings

Effects of fish scale pit texture on friction properties for a reciprocating pair piston surface with high velocity (impact piston) are acquired. Effects of texture characterization parameters and flow rate on the surface friction performance for impact piston are found. Effects of different characteristic parameters combination of imitating fish scale texture on friction performance for impact piston surface are obtained.

Originality/value

The model is an effective tool to study the friction and wear of reciprocating pair with high velocity. The effects of fish scale textured piston pair supply a theory lead to design the reciprocating pair with better friction performance.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to study the lubrication and sealing performance on the textured piston pair under the cross action of the shape and structure parameters. This paper further carries out the optimization design of low energy consumption hydraulic impact piston pair.

Design/methodology/approach

Based on the characteristics of the ring gap seal piston pair, the flow field analysis model of the whole film gap is established for its periodic treatment. The friction power loss of the piston pair is defined as the evaluation index of the lubrication performance and the leakage power loss as the evaluation index of the sealing performance. The orthogonal test design and CFD software were used to analyze the lubrication and sealing performance of the textured piston pair.

Findings

The cross action of shape and structure factors has a great influence of the lubrication and sealing performance on the textured piston pair. Clearance and shape parameters have great influence on it, while seal length and depth diameter ratio have little influence. The sealing performance of conical textured piston pair is good, while the lubrication performance of square textured piston pair is good. The primary and secondary order of influence of shape and structure on energy consumption on piston pair is B (seal clearance) > C (texture shape) > D (area ratio) > A (seal length) > E (depth diameter ratio).

Originality/value

Breaking the defect of local optimization design on traditional piston pair structure, then find the matching relationship of structural parameters on textured piston pair. Further improve the lubrication and sealing performance of the piston pair, and provide reference for the global optimization design of the low energy consumption hydraulic impact piston pair.

Abstract

Purpose

Intellectual capital is an essential intangible resource for enterprises, and different combinations of intellectual and environmental elements will produce different innovation effects. This study aims to analyze the effects of different matching combinations of intellectual capital elements and environmental uncertainty elements of firms on improving ambidextrous innovation (exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation).

Design/methodology/approach

Based on data from 161 listed companies in China, we employ a fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) to identify the paths that effectively promote ambidextrous innovation in enterprises.

Findings

Through group analysis, we derived five realization paths of exploratory innovation and five of exploitative innovation respectively. We further find that among these innovation realization paths, human capital plays a more prominent role in facilitating exploitative innovation, while relational capital plays a more important role in realizing exploratory innovation.

Originality/value

This research not only significantly contributes to the theory of ambidextrous innovation, but also helps firms identify the multiple paths of realization that trigger high-exploratory and exploitative innovation, avoiding unnecessary waste caused by resource mismatch, and providing valuable insights for firms seeking to adopt an ambidextrous innovation strategy effectively.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to address the integration of SFX link resolver with Evergreen open source integrated library system (ILS). It also aims to describe a method to incorporate print serials into SFX.

Design/methodology/approach

A print serials project has been proposed and implemented to integrate print and electronic serials at University of Windsor Leddy Library. It contains two sub‐projects: to incorporate all forms of serials in SFX; and to integrate SFX with the Evergreen library catalogue for serials access. Various issues associated with print serials and open source software were also investigated.

Findings

A unified view of print and electronic serials is desired and well received by librarians and patrons. There is no technical difficulty uploading print serials data into SFX, but the process can be time‐consuming and challenging. Open source software is flexible in terms of customization and interoperability with other library systems though it presents challenges to system staff.

Originality/value

This paper has the following contributions: it is the first work on the integration of Evergreen open source ILS and the proprietary link resolver, SFX, in the literature. The issues encountered and their solutions presented in this paper may be applicable to the integration of open source ILSs, such as Evergreen and Koha, with link resolvers or other library systems; and the method described in this paper to facilitate users in accessing all forms of serials may be useful for other institutions having SFX or other link resolver systems.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this article is to provide a comprehensive literature review on the utilisation of intelligent agent technology in the library environment.

Design/methodology/approach

Research papers since 1990 on the use of various intelligent agent technologies in libraries are divided into two main application areas: digital library (DL), including agent‐based DL projects, multi‐agent architecture for DLs, intelligent agents for distributed heterogeneous information retrieval and agent support to information search process in DLs; and services in traditional libraries, including user interface for library information systems, automatic reference services and multi‐agent architecture for library services. For each paper on the topic, its new ideas or models, referred work, analyses, experiments, findings and conclusions are addressed.

Findings

The majority of the literature covers DLs and there have been fewer studies about services in traditional libraries. A variety of architecture, framework and models integrating agent technology in library systems or services are proposed, but only a few have been implemented in the practical environment. The application of agent technology is still at the research and experimentation stage. Agent technology has great potential in many areas in the library context; however it presents challenges to libraries that want to be involved in its adoption.

Practical implications

The survey has practical implications for libraries, librarians and computer professionals in developing projects that employ intelligent agent technology to meet end‐users' expectations as well as to improve information services within limited resources in library settings.

Originality/value

The paper provides a comprehensive survey on the development and research of intelligent agents in libraries in literature.
