Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to present the authors’ perspectives on the new narrative styles adopted by international millennial travel vloggers during the COVID-19 pandemic. They aim to promote virtual tourism, and the authors present six examples of millennial vloggers. Considering tighter government regulations relating to travel, vloggers have developed novel ways of content creation through “travel writing.”

Design/methodology/approach

The authors used narrative analysis to review their sample of vlogs and how specific changes in each vlogging stage are motivated by viewer expectancy.

Findings

Millennial vlogger couples are using the YouTube platform to meet the demand for virtual tourism.

Research limitations/implications

This study provides new ways of looking at travel vlogging as an occupation and means of entertainment. However, the current dynamic situation may well lead to further challenges for this kind of research.

Practical implications

The implications relate to the provision of a better understanding of the scope for virtual tourism and how it can lead to new avenues for tourism development.

Originality/value

The authors reviewed millennial vloggers during the COVID-19 pandemic and applied narratology to the vlogs to better analyse the changes caused by the pandemic.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper presents the performance analysis of the automatic ticket vending machine (ATVM) through the functioning of its different hardware and software failures.

Design/methodology/approach

Frequent failures in the working of ATVM have been observed; therefore, the authors of the paper intend to analyze the performance measures of the same. Authors have developed a mathematical model based on different hardware and software failures/repairs, which may occur during the operation, with the help of the Markov process. The developed model has been solved for two kinds of failure/repair rates namely variable failures (very much similar to real-time failure) and constant failures. Lagrange's method and Laplace transformation are used for the solution of the developed model.

Findings

Reliability and mean time to failure of the ATVM are determined. Sensitivity analysis for ATVM is also carried out in the paper. Critical components of the ATVM, which affect the performance of the same, in terms of reliability and MTTF are also identified.

Originality/value

A mathematical model based on different hardware and software failures/repairs of ATVM has been developed to analyze its performance, which has not been done in the past.

Abstract

Jammu and Kashmir known for its scenic beauty, serene environment and bountifulness has been a witness to turbulent events starting from 1989, when the simmering volcano of infused hatred from across the border against India, and discriminatory practices of the politicians resulted in mistrust; and the demand for azadi (independence) was made through Kalashnikovs, grenades and bombs, kidnappings, mass demonstrations and other means of groundbreaking violence. To declare Kashmir an Islamic state, the militants spread fear amongst Kashmiri Pandits (KPs), the original Hindu inhabitants of Kashmir, through newspaper advertisements and pamphlets ordering them to leave Kashmir or face death. KPs initially resisted exodus. They looked for every possible way to avoid abandoning the place where their families had roots and their ancestors were consigned to flame. The present research paper will examine Rahul Pandita's narrative Our Moon Has Blood Clots to underscore the violence of KPs being thrown out of their homes, dangling between the status of ‘migrant KP’, ‘refugee KP’, ‘displaced KP’ to ‘reckon with the loss and gain of place, we (may) discover through the force of interpretation, forms of absence – of pain, of fear, of guilt, of desire’ (Kapur 47) to highlight the psyche of KPs in terms of resistance and survival, trauma and victimhood, struggle and survival.
