Abstract
This paper deals with 3D finite‐element calculation of eddy currents in the claws of a claw‐pole alternator taking the rotational geometry movement into account. Two transient edge‐based vector formulations are utilised. The reduction of the model to only one pole pitch in combination with a special boundary pairing in the air gap for the applied lock‐step method is presented. Calculations of varying material conductivity are performed with simplified end windings. The speed characteristics of the eddy currents with real conductivity and realistic end windings concludes the paper.

Abstract
Presents the calculation of the induced eddy currents in the conducting parts of transverse flux machines. Compared to conventional machines the transverse flux machine has a bigger torque, both with respect to volume and weight. For this reason, it is especially suited for direct drive applications in electric vehicles and railways. The main focus in this paper is the investigation of the different loss mechanisms caused by the sinusoidal stator current and the movement of the permanent magnet excited rotor. A 3D FEM solver with a \over right arrow A−\over right arrow A, \over right arrow T potential formulation is used in combination with edge elements. The time stepping procedure, with special focus on the displacement between stator and rotor mesh for the velocity effect, is explained in detail. The eddy current density distribution in the different parts of the machine is shown.

Abstract
Finite‐element simulations of induction machines with squirrel‐cage rotor require transient solution algorithms. For this reason a transient 2D solver is utilized which takes rotational movement of the rotor into account. Its formulation and the time‐step algorithm are given. Two different kinds of eccentricity of the rotor and their combination are defined and studied. The three motor variants are computed and the torque, the net force, and the surface‐force density are compared in time and frequency domain.

Abstract
The resolution of magnetic resonance imaging, commonly known as MRI, depends on the homogeneity and field strength of the used primary magnetic field \vecB0 over the volume of interest. In clinical tomographs homogeneous fields are produced by solenoid coil windings or long round permanent magnets. These solutions are unsuitable for mobile usage because of weight and costs. This paper introduces an optimized magnetic circuit for a mobile universal surface explorer (MOUSE) which meets the requirements of sufficient homogeneity and low weight.

Abstract
We discuss a recent effort of institutional resistance in the context of the 2008–2011 Apostolic Visitation of U.S. women religious motivated by Vatican concerns about perceived secularism and potential lack of fidelity among Catholic sisters. We examined the process of and women’s responses to the Visitation to shed light on the institutional work associated with productive resistance and the role of identity and emotions in transforming institutions.
At a time when the male leadership can be blamed for leading the church to a state of crisis – a time when the voices of women are needed more than ever – even the modest roles accorded to female clerics have come under attack. The specific reasons for the investigation are unclear (or, more probably, not public), but the suspicion, clearly, can be put in the crassest terms: too many American nuns have gone off the reservation.
