Abstract
A discipline is bound by some combination of a shared subject matter, shared theory, and shared technique. Yet modern economics is seemingly without limit to its domain. As a discipline without a shared subject matter, what is the binding force of economics today? The authors combine topic modeling and text analysis to analyze different approaches to inquiry within the discipline of economics. The authors find that the importance of theory has declined as economics has increasingly become defined by its empirical techniques. The authors question whether this trajectory is stable in the long run as the binding force of the discipline.

Abstract
Purpose
Although emotions are relevant for conflicted interactions, the role of emotions in organizational conflicts has remained understudied. The purpose of this paper is to contribute to this by looking at the role of nonverbal affective elements in conversations.
Design/methodology/approach
Bringing together organizational “becoming” and embodiment approaches, the study focused on a conflict which emerged during a multi-actor consulting conversation. The episode in question was analyzed via a detailed, micro-level discursive method which focused specifically on the participants’ use of prosodic and nonverbal behaviors.
Findings
Changes in prosody were found to have an important role in how the conflict between a consultant and an employee client emerged and was handled. Nonverbal and prosodic means had a central role in creating legitimate space for the employees’ feelings: they helped to validate the feelings and thus led the interlocutors to act in a more constructive manner in their handling of the conflicted situation.
Research limitations/implications
Findings are based on a single case study. Multi-modal analysis proved effective in capturing the relevant interactions in a comprehensive manner.
Practical implications
Conversational “traps” may be observed by becoming alert to interactional patterns involving repeated chains of actions. A nonverbal response, validating the interlocutor as someone who is entitled to her/his feelings, can be sufficient in providing emotional help in consultancy.
Social implications
Nonverbal elements of interactions are important in handling delicate issues in conflicts.
Originality/value
To the authors’ knowledge, no previous organizational research has provided a detailed description of a conflicted interaction “as it happened” between clients and a consultant.

This paper examines the role of managerial curiosity as a critical factor in determining the future impact of disruptive information technologies in a global organization. Specifically, this paper presents curiosity as a managerial characteristic that plays an important role in identifying disruptive information technologies and facilitating their early adoption. Further, it uses resource‐based theory as a theoretical lens to illustrate how managerial curiosity can be a source of sustained competitive advantage. Finally, it examines the individual decision styles that are best suited in assessing disruptive information technologies.

Abstract
As a Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) extension tool, cross-evaluation method was developed to evaluate Decision Making Units’ (DMUs) performances in a competitive situation with limited demand. It identifies DMUs with best performances and rank them by applying peer evaluation mode instead of self-evaluation mode. However, it has limitations in efficiency improvement. That is, it fails to give direct information on how to improve efficiencies of the inefficient DMUs. In this chapter, we propose an alternative way to apply cross-evaluation in efficiency improvement. First, an appropriate and feasible suggestion is proposed to minimize the variation between the weights of a DMU's own optimal Charnes-Cooper-Rhodes (CCR) efficiency and the weights guaranteeing its cross-efficiency score. We exploit several transformations to convert nonlinear programming into a linear one. As a result, an overall optimal set of the weights is obtained, which precisely illustrate the preferences of decision makers and exact characteristics of production process of the evaluated DMU. A further discussion is advanced to examine the existence of non-uniqueness of the weights and to differentiate various sets of the optimal weights by suggesting a unique feasible set of multipliers to best represent the alternative weights selection criterion. Moreover, we develop several models to reallocate the inputs and outputs of inefficient DMUs with minimum amelioration as well as consideration of the preference of decision makers. Finally, we apply our models to evaluate competitive advantages of Chinese cities.

Based on a review of multiple literatures, a comprehensive content domain of essential intercultural competencies for effective global leaders is presented. This domain is then used to guide the development of the Global Competencies Inventory (GCI), a 160-item self-report measure that assesses the degree to which individuals possess the intercultural competencies that are associated with global leader effectiveness. Using sample sizes ranging from several hundred to nearly 9,000 subjects, evidence from several studies is presented showing the GCI to have convergent validity, predictive validity, and freedom from demographic and ethnic subgroup biases. Implications for theory and future research are also discussed.

Abstract
Several lessons learnt from a Bayesian analysis of basic macroeconomic time-series models are presented for the situation where some model parameters have substantial posterior probability near the boundary of the parameter region. This feature refers to near-instability within dynamic models, to forecasting with near-random walk models and to clustering of several economic series in a small number of groups within a data panel. Two canonical models are used: a linear regression model with autocorrelation and a simple variance components model. Several well-known time-series models like unit root and error correction models and further state space and panel data models are shown to be simple generalizations of these two canonical models for the purpose of posterior inference. A Bayesian model averaging procedure is presented in order to deal with models with substantial probability both near and at the boundary of the parameter region. Analytical, graphical, and empirical results using U.S. macroeconomic data, in particular on GDP growth, are presented.
