Abstract
Purpose
The aim was to prepare antibacterial microcapsules and transferred to denim and non-denim (canvas) trousers.
Design/methodology/approach
For this purpose, lavender and sweet almond oil as active agents were encapsulated with ethylcellulose shell with a spray dryer method and carried out capsule optimization studies.
Findings
The particle diameter of the capsules ranged between 0.61 and 8.76 µm, SPAN value was 1.608 and the mean particle size was 4 µm. The mass yields of capsules ranged between 35.0 and 75.4 %w/w. Denim fabrics were treated with prepared capsules by exhaustion and spraying methods. It was seen that microcapsules provided a reduction of bacteria by over 97% against both Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli and the fabrics still showed an antibacterial effect after five washing cycles.
Originality/value
When application methods were compared, the spraying method was found to be more sustainable process than exhaustion and could be used as an alternative for reducing energy consumption and capsules could provide antibacterial properties to the fabrics.

Phase change materials have been a main topic in research for the last 20 years. They have also been used in many engineering applications, especially in the fields of thermal storage and insulation. They are used for ice storage, building applications, in the field of solar energy storage, heat pumps, heat distribution systems, air conditioning, green houses, solar collectors and cookers, for improving thermal comfort in vehicles, and for the conservation and transport of temperature-sensitive materials such as electronic materials, food, the transport of medical tissue, and engines or hydraulic machines. Recently, PCMs (Phase Change Materials) have entered the textile market for use in increasing the thermal comfort of garments. In such extreme applications of textiles as diving suits, ski wear, and underwear, PCMs can impart outstanding properties to garments. Their insulating properties may prevent the wearer from fatal consequences. In this paper, the use of PCMs, methods of evaluation, and methods and areas of application in textiles are discussed.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to create a textile material which shows antibacterial activity with resistance to environmental conditions by using volatile active agent inclusion complex and self-assembly method.
Design/methodology/approach
An inclusion complex of carvacrol and β-CD is generated by kneading method and deposited on the cotton fabrics by using a nanofabrication method named as layer-by-layer (LbL) deposition method. Three different concentration of CD and CD:Car aqueous solutions were deposited on cotton fabrics. Attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR-ATR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), antimicrobial efficacy test of fabrics against washing and some physical tests (water vapor permeability, air permeability) were performed on the fabrics before and after the treatment with CD to evaluate the effect of the LbL process on cotton fabric properties.
Findings
The results showed that the coated fabrics with CD/CD:Car multilayer films enhanced the antimicrobial efficacy of cotton fabrics against to Klebsiella pneumonia and Staphylococus aureus bacteria. Air and water vapor permeability properties of the cotton fabric effected after the LbL deposition process sure enough. With SEM and FTIR-ATR analysis the CD:Car complex presence were verified. The durability of antibacterial properties were analyzed after one and ten washing (40°C and 30 min) cycles.
Originality/value
This work provides a novel and simple method for CD and inclusion complex of carvacrol film deposition by self-assembly method on cotton fabrics and their application onto cotton fabrics to gain antibacterial property.

Abstract
Purpose
Drilling of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) composite plates with high surface quality are of great importance for assembly operations. The article aims to optimize the drill geometry and cutting parameters to improve the surface quality of CFRP composite material. In this study, CFRP plates were drilled with uncoated carbide drill bits with standard and step geometry. Thus, the effects of standard and step drill bits on surface quality have been examined comparatively. In addition, optimum output parameters were determined by Taguchi, ANOVA and multiple decision-making methods.
Design/methodology/approach
Drill bit point angles were selected as 90°, 110° and 130°. In cutting parameters, three different cutting speeds (25, 50 and 75 m/min) and three different feeds (0.1, 0.15 and 0.2 mm/rev) were determined. L18 orthogonal sequence was used with Taguchi experimental design. Three important output parameters affecting the surface quality are determined as thrust force, surface roughness and delamination factor. For each output parameter, the effects of drill geometry and cutting parameters were evaluated. Input parameters affecting output parameters were analyzed using the ANOVA method. Output parameters were estimated by creating regression equations. Weights were determined using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method, and multiple output parameters were optimized using technique for order preference by Similarity to An ideal solution (TOPSIS).
Findings
It has been determined from the experimental results that step drills generate smaller thrust forces than standard drills. However, it has been determined that it creates greater surface roughness and delamination factor. From the Taguchi analysis, the optimum input parameters for Fz step tool geometry, 90° point angle, 75 m/min cutting speed and 0.1 mm/rev feed. For Fd, are standard tool geometry, 90° point angle, 25 m/min cutting speed and 0.1 mm/rev feed and for Ra, are standard tool geometry, 130° point angle, 25 m/min cutting speed and 0.1 mm/rev feed. ANOVA analysis determined that the most important parameter on Fd is the tip angle, with 56.33%. The most important parameter on Ra and Fz was found to be 40.53% and 77.06% tool geometry, respectively. As a result of the optimization with multiple criteria decision-making methods, the test order that gave the best surface quality was found as 4–1-9–5-8–17-2–13-6–16-18–15-11–10-3–12-14. The results of the test number 4, which gives the best surface quality, namely, the thrust force is 91.86 N, the surface roughness is 0.75 µm and the delamination factor is 1.043. As a result of experiment number 14, which gave the worst surface quality, the thrust force was 149.88 N, the surface roughness was 3.03 µm and the delamination factor was 1.163.
Practical implications
Surface quality is an essential parameter in the drilling of CFRP plates. Cutting tool geometry comes first among the parameters affecting this. Therefore, different cutting tool geometries are preferred. A comparison of these cutting tools is discussed in detail. On the other hand, thrust force, delamination factor and surface roughness, which are the output parameters that determine the surface quality, have been optimized using the TOPSIS and AHP method. In this way, this situation, which seems complicated, is presented in a plain and understandable form.
Originality/value
In the experiments, cutting tools with different geometries are included. Comparatively, its effects on surface quality were examined. The hole damage mechanism affecting the surface quality is discussed in detail. The results were optimized by evaluating Taguchi, ANOVA, TOPSIS and AHP methods together.

Purpose
Since the first moment of the pandemic, national and international travel restrictions are in place to reduce human mobility. This actual situation makes the tourism industry one of the areas most affected by the pandemic. Many microeconomic factors (households and firms) were adversely affected by the pandemic, and this situation brought about macroeconomic contraction. Naturally, governments seek to sustain production and employment by offering financial packages to reduce the negative economic effects of the pandemic. Given such information, the study aims to examine the financial policies implemented by countries to support the tourism industry during the pandemic period.
Design/methodology/approach
Content analysis, which is a technique of qualitative research method, was applied in the analysis process of the data. Assessments were made based on data published by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) on the financial and monetary policies implemented by countries to support the tourism industry. The data were analyzed using the MAXQDA qualitative analysis program.
Findings
According to the results of the study, countries support the tourism industry financially in terms of credit and liquidity. Also, tourism investments are encouraged by tax breaks and low interest rates.
Originality/value
It is aimed to determine what issues the financial and monetary policies published by the UNWTO focus on to solve the problems in the tourism sector. In this way, it is thought that the study will reveal the problems experienced by tourism enterprises during the pandemic period with a holistic perspective.

Abstract
Purpose
The present study investigates human behavioral and emotional experiences based on human-built environment interaction with a specific interest in urban graffiti displaying fear and pleasure-inducing facial expressions. Regarding human behavioral and emotional experience, two questions are asked for the outcome of human responses and two hypotheses are formulated. H1 is based on the behavioral experience and posits that the urban graffiti displaying fear and pleasure-inducing facial expressions elicit specified behavioral fear and pleasure responses. H2 is based on emotional experience and states that the urban graffiti displaying fear and pleasure-inducing facial expressions elicit specified emotional fear and pleasure responses.
Design/methodology/approach
The research design is developed as a multi-method approach, applying a lab-based experimental strategy (N:39). The research equipment includes a mobile electroencephalogram (EEG) and a Virtual Reality (VR) headset. The behavioral and emotional human responses concerning the representational features of urban graffiti are assessed objectively by measuring physiological variables, EEG signals and subjectively by behavioral variables, systematic behavioral observation and self-report variables, Self-assessment Manikin (SAM) questionnaire. Additionally, correlational analyses between behavioral and emotional results are performed.
Findings
The findings of behavioral and emotional evaluations and correlational results show that specialized fear and pleasure response patterns occur due to the affective characteristics of the urban graffiti's representational features, supporting our hypotheses. As a result, the characteristics of behavioral fear and pleasure response and emotional fear and pleasure response are identified.
Originality/value
The present paper contributes to the literature on human-built environment interactions by using physiological, behavioral and self-report measurements as indicators of human behavioral and emotional experiences. Additionally, the literature on urban graffiti is expanded by studying the representational features of urban graffiti as a parameter of investigating human experience in the built environment.

Abstract
Purpose
The paper aims to analyze the relationships between ethical leadership (EL), job satisfaction (JS), affective commitment (AC) and turnover intention (TI) that might make accountants quit withdrawal and become productive and useful in private organizations operating in Istanbul.
Design/methodology/approach
Data were collected through an online survey using a simple random sampling methodology, obtained from 153 accountants working in companies in Istanbul. The methodology included descriptive statistics, factor analysis, structural equation modeling and mediation analysis.
Findings
Concerning direct relationships between EL, JS, AC and TI, EL has significant positive associations with JS and AC, whereas EL has a significant negative association with TI. JS has a significant positive association with AC, whereas JS has a significant negative association with TI. Also, AC has a weak significant negative association with TI. Given indirect relationships among EL, JS, AC and TI, JS and AC mediate the relationship between EL and TI. Finally, a similarity is found when comparing Generation X and Generation Y in terms of overall JS, AC and TI.
Research limitations/implications
The study is limited solely to companies functioning in Istanbul and incorporates a low number of respondents. Therefore, the results cannot be considered to be accurate for the whole country. The study might guide both private and public organizations in which owners/managers develop strategic plans.
Originality/value
The study fills the gap in research on organizational behavior where little has existed until now that probes the EL–JS–AC–TI links in Turkey. A few studies measure the TIs of accountants. Furthermore, EL and AC are rarely evaluated in the field of accounting in Turkey.
