Abstract
Health care institutions are increasingly outsourcing services to managed service companies. As a result, the span of control for managers of these services (departments) can increase rapidly. This research investigated the developmental areas needed by managers as they assume multiple departments within acute care hospitals. The research identified 23 training areas from qualitative research on multi‐department managers in acute care hospitals. Analysis of variance was then used to test whether three distinct groups of management differed significantly in their perceptions of the importance of the training areas for their successful career development. Significant differences were found for nine of the 23 training areas. In addition, the ability to achieve a level of expertise through development in several diverse areas was found to be far more important to today's managers in managing multiple departments in hospitals than tenure in a position of management.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to continue to forecast trends in the hospitality and travel industry with practical implications.
Design/methodology/approach
This study is the updated version of our previous list of trends. The new edition updates the previous report on the implications for the hospitality industry of major trends now shaping the future. We focus mainly on energy, environmental and labor force and work trends and discuss sub-trends under each trend. We then implicate how the trends affect the Hospitality and Travel industry.
Findings
We shared implications under each sub-trends.
Originality/value
The value of this article is to analyze the impact of the environment on the Hospitality and Travel industry from a macro perspective. For each trend, we implicate an estimate for future trends. We hope this article sheds light on the prediction of the Hospitality and Travel industry.

Abstract
Purpose
The aim of this study was to conduct a comprehensive investigation into declining and emerging occupations and job titles and to develop a national career progression pathway for the tourism and hospitality (T&H) sector.
Design/methodology/approach
Anchored on the Social Cognitive Career Theory, this study used face to face in-depth interviews of 33 industry stakeholders: policymakers, trade association, training providers and beneficiaries (T&H).
Findings
The finding reveals that only the “watchman” occupation was identified as the declining job while majority of the emerging jobs were more related to information technology and environmental occupations (website designers, digital marketers, data analysts, hygienists, and safety and hazard experts).
Practical implications
The findings provide a valuable signal for the growing number of jobs in security services, hygiene and information technology-oriented occupations, which the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture including practitioners including HR directors and general managers should respond timely to and to these growing needs in order to remain competitive in the sector.
Originality/value
This is the first study in context that responded to a call by industry players to fill in a practical knowledge gap in examining declining and emerging jobs and job titles in the T&H sector. The study provides vocational insights into mapping the entry level requirements for the jobs allied with occupations in the national technical and vocational educational training qualifications framework of Ghana at the national level.
