Abstract
Purpose
During its operation, vibrations in jacket platform due to high operational and environmental loads could reduce its productivity and endanger its safety. Tuned mass damper (TMD) is one of the vibration control devices commonly used in buildings to reduce their response. Basically, TMD is a device attached to a structure as a mass on properly tuned spring and damping elements. The purpose of this paper is to study the utilization of TMD to reduce the wave-induced vibration of platforms.
Design/methodology/approach
First, the study investigates the optimum TMD parameters to reduce the response of the platform. The effectiveness of the optimized TMD in reducing platform response due to wave load is then analyzed. Finally, the reduced response of the platform is attributed to an extension of platform service life. Cyclic load in the form of vibration is related to cyclic stress on the tubular connections on a jacket platform, which causes fatigue failure. Fatigue performance of a platform is quantified by its fatigue life, which should be at least twice the intended service life.
Findings
It is found that the optimized TMD cannot be achieved by simply adjusting the TMD damping as high as possible. The results show that the response of controlled platforms by properly tuned TMD could be reduced by about 20 percent from the uncontrolled case.
Originality/value
Although vibration of a structure can be reduced by increasing its stiffness, this approach is considered not economical since it increases the cost for material construction. With the falling of oil prices, an optimization of jacket platform structure is considered necessary to reduce its construction cost. TMD can be used as an alternate solution, even though the only recorded utilization of TMD on a jacket platform is known in Sakhalin Platform in Russia. This fact gives a motivation to carry out more studies about TMD application on jacket platform, as this device is already used in numerous of inland structures.

Abstract
Purpose
Considering that little is known on market orientation at the individual level, this study investigates the effects of individual market orientation on proactive service behavior, and subsequently, sales performance among business-to-business salespeople. Based on social cognitive theory and competing values framework, this paper also examines the interaction effects of organizational culture on the link between individual market orientation and proactive service behavior.
Design/methodology/approach
The study sampled 539 business-to-business salespeople from 18 corporate banks in Kuala Lumpur by using a questionnaire survey.
Findings
The results of the study show that adhocracy culture strengthens the effects of information acquisition on proactive service behavior, while at the same time weakens the impact of coordination of strategic response on the same outcome. Meanwhile, rational culture displayed negative contingent effects of information dissemination on proactive service behavior.
Practical implications
Given its link to sales performance and proactive service behavior, banks should motivate their employees to embrace market orientation as individual competencies. This research outcome will aid managers in developing strategies and inculcating the right culture to ensure the market-oriented behaviors are internalized and transpired into positive outcomes.
Originality/value
This paper contributes to the enrichment of the existing market orientation frameworks by offering underlying mechanisms (cultural environment and proactive service behavior) through which market-oriented behaviors contribute to the sales performance of business-to-business salespeople within the financial service industry. It is also among the earliest studies that examine the influence of individual market orientation and organizational culture on proactive service behavior.

Abstract
Purpose
Over the past decades, there has been a rising trend in the prevalence of non-communicable diseases and their risk factors in Malaysia. Consequently, functional food is gaining interest amongst health-conscious consumers. This study aimed to evaluate the functional potential of cookie enhanced with Strobilanthes crispus (SC) and to evaluate its physicochemical and organoleptic properties.
Design/methodology/approach
Sensory evaluation was carried out using nine-point hedonic and line scales and the ranking test amongst consumer panels (n = 150) to evaluate control, 2, 4 and 6% SC cookies. Preferred formulation and control cookies were then subjected to chemical (moisture, protein, fat, ash, carbohydrate, calcium, sodium and potassium contents) and physical (texture profile and water activity [Aw]) analyses.
Findings
There was no significant difference (p < 0.05) in terms of overall acceptability and ranking scores between control and 2% SC cookies upon gender discrimination. Results indicated that incorporation of 2% SC into cookie caused significant enhancement (p < 0.05) of moisture, fat, ash, calcium and potassium contents but did not cause a significant effect on hardness, although loss of crispiness was observed after two weeks of storage at room temperature. This study showed that the 2% SC cookie did not diminish consumers' acceptance while increasing potassium content. Most notably, it can be declared as a source of calcium.
Originality/value
This original research features the incorporation of medicinal plant SC in the development of novel functional cookie and the results constitute unique findings pertaining to its nutritional contents. Remarkably, the findings of this research have contributed knowledge to existing literature as well as benefits food manufacturers in creating nutritious functional cookie to better meet the needs and expectations of consumers, healthcare providers, governmental organisations and consumer advocacy groups while maintaining health benefits without compromising consumers' acceptance.
