Abstract
Purpose
The aim of this chapter is to explore the relationship between contemporary sport, social media, digital technology, and sexuality and to explore the historical context of sport and sexuality, before then outlining the decline of homophobia in recent years. Despite this decline, social media is one area where we still see the manifestation of homophobia.
Design/methodology/approach
This chapter synthesizes a range of academic literature to chart how – despite improving attitudes toward homosexuality in sport – abuse and discrimination is still prevalent on social media.
Findings
Eric Anderson's (2009) Inclusive Masculinity Theory has been the most useful theoretical apparatus to underpin the changing nature of sport, gender, and sexuality. While this has been used in a variety of sporting contexts, these are primarily focused on gay male athletes in the West. Accordingly, there is a gap in knowledge around the experiences of lesbian, bisexual, and trans athletes, as well as those outside of the Western context.
Originality/value
Although there has been some literature to document discrimination on social media, very little focuses specifically on the manifestation of homophobia. Accordingly, this chapter provides an important contribution by being one of the first to tie together the literature on improved cultural attitudes toward homosexuality while simultaneously focusing on the prevalence of discrimination on social media.

Abstract
It is difficult to analyze, especially from short range, the effect an annual conference will have on the library world. When it's held in Chicago, you can assume the posture the citizens have toward the weather and say “Wait a day and it will change.” When it's in San Francisco, you know that no matter what the show is like, you can always go down to Fisherman's Wharf, have fresh crab and sour‐dough bread, and be satisfied. New York, the site for this year's offering, left me with a strange feeling: there's something really neat here but I could never live here. That holds for the city as well as the show.

Abstract
I recently received a call from Marian, a sorely troubled librarian whose name and institution shall remain nameless, inquiring about the purchase of a microcomputer for her library. Almost immediately two things became apparent: she knew little about micros and one of her colleagues had convinced her that she had to have a Zambesie with a thirty megabyte drive.

Abstract
I recently had the pleasure of speaking at a library microcomputer conference and, although some of the academic types accused me of patronizing the audience—those who have heard me speak will counter that I always patronize the audience because they're the patrons, at least from my plebian perspective—'twas a good gathering. In many ways it turned on a light that I had been shining, only I had it hidden under a bushel.

I am pleased as cider that OCLC Micro is broadening its focus to address some needs of the fruit (e.g., Apple) using world. I'd like to start off with some comments on checking your drive speed and then move on to oft forgotten, but absolutely necessary software.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to critically investigate year 6 and year 9 boys’ constructions of masculinity in the light of theories of inclusive masculinity and to consider the implications of the findings for critical masculinities scholarship in educational research.
Design/methodology/approach
Qualitative data was collected through fieldwork in school settings consisting of observations and semi-structured interviews. Data analysis draws upon pro-feminist and post-structuralist theories of the gendered subject.
Findings
The data shows some evidence of inclusive forms of masculinity expressed by the boys’ rejection of a “boy code” (Pollack, 1999) and their narratives of caring and emotional experience. However, discourses of dominant masculinity persist and continue to shape the boys’ subjectivities. The most striking finding is the capacity of the educational gender work programme reported on in this study to provide boys with the resources to problematise the social construction of masculinity.
Research limitations/implications
The data suggests analysis in binary terms of inclusive or dominant masculinity fails to recognise the fuzzy educational middle ground occupied by the “overlooked ordinary boys” (Brown, 1987; Roberts, 2012) of this study.
Practical implications
Educational gender work programmes which provide boys with the resources to question dominant masculine practices enable boys to exceed the “symbolic order” and trouble dominant gender discourse.
Originality/value
In order to develop nuanced theory and practice researchers need to listen to boys’ accounts of their experiences. Analysis of boys gender work in terms of binary adult constructs of masculinity run the risk of perpetuating the essentialism they purport to avoid rather than producing studies which provide an empirically robust foundation for developing an effective practical educational agenda. In a neo-liberal policy context the role of gender equity programmes with the capacity to produce more reflexive masculine subjects requires reassertion within the curriculum.

Abstract
Purpose
Social networking services (SNS) sites such as Facebook and Twitter have increasingly established themselves as a new paradigm of communication. Due to the rapid popularization of mobile devices, mobile SNS are creating a particularly significant change in the way in which information is distributed. The purpose of this paper is to propose a mobile SNS system tailored for archival information services (AIS) in South Korea.
Design/methodology/approach
In order to find an appropriate service structure for the proposed AIS system, the authors conduct a case study of the existing mobile SNS sites. In addition to this, the authors investigate how mobile SNS are currently used in libraries and archives. Based on the results, they propose a mobile SNS structure suitable for the AIS system, for which a user interface and database is designed and implemented.
Findings
The proposed system can leverage mobile SNS to expand the accessibility of AIS and encourage active participation and cooperation from users.
Originality/value
The proposed system can improve the security vulnerabilities inherent in Facebook and Twitter; further, it can induce active user participation through two-way communication channels with users and also produce high-quality information by providing a communication space between the archiving experts.
