Abstract
Purpose
Contributions describing the 15th Conference on Computers, Freedom and Privacy: Panopticon, covering selective highlights of papers, presentations and the overall context of this meeting.
Design/methodology/approach
Observations and descriptions of key themes and ideas that were presented in a conference framework.
Findings
Significant participation at this conference.
Originality/value
This is the primary forum for the exploration of issues and challenges relating to the internet and freedom today, focusing on the impact that emerging surveillance societies have on the net and individuals particularly in light of the data mining and data sharing of personal information, combined with and the close partnership between corporations and government.
Research limitations/implications
How problems and issues are resolved by others and realizing that the power of sharing information is greatest when solutions are creative and openly shared.
Practical implications
Good to share information and network with colleagues on issues relating to privacy.

Abstract
The study explored the experiences of undergraduate students during a semester-long, leadership development internship course offered at a large research university in the southern United States. The researchers employed qualitative content analysis to examine sixty-five student internship portfolios and identify the leadership capabilities that students applied and/or developed as part of the internship. Students identified self-awareness, growth, project planning, team management, and adversity management as the main leadership capabilities used during their internship experience. Results also indicated that students expanded their concept of leadership and built leadership self-efficacy. The study provides preliminary support for including a leadership internship within the curriculum to support student leadership development.

Abstract
Unemployment in Germany remains a major policy issue. The unemployment problem began with ratchet effects following the two crude oil‐price shocks in the 1970s. In each case, a persistent increase in (long‐term) unemployment became particularly noticeable, with the slow rate of job creation in the service sector being a fundamental cause. With the objective of isolating a likely successful policy prescription for Germany, this paper presents an international comparison of different approaches to reducing unemployment and increasing job creation. The author suggests “strategic employment policy” as a possible solution to overcoming the existing blockage of economically reasonable labour market reforms and develops a specific proposal to transform the existing German Alliance for Jobs as a voluntary vehicle for consensus into an incentive‐generating “social pact with bite”.

Abstract
The ERIC Clearinghouse on Educational Administration at the University of Oregon acquires, indexes and abstracts documents relating to the theory and practice of administration and publishes newsletters, bibliographies and interpretive reviews of research studies. The Clearinghouse is responsible for documents dealing with the leadership, management and structure of public and private educational organizations at the elementary and secondary levels. Attention is paid to documents bearing upon not only educational but also other areas of administration and to relevant publications relating to the humanities and the social and behavioral sciences. In this paper administrators and scholars in the field are advised how to draw on the resources of ERIC Clearinghouse on Educational Administration.

Abstract
Critical and justice-oriented approaches to leadership are incomplete without attention to racism and racialization. This study employed basic qualitative inquiry to examine racialized legitimation within student affairs leadership education through lenses of whiteness as property and legitimacy. Findings detail how leadership educators sought to gain and/or maintain legitimacy and the ways racialization is embedded in these processes through professional experiences, leadership knowledge, and identity. Implications for research and practice are discussed.
