Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to examine the relationship between digital transformation (DigiTr), innovation and human resources planning (HRP) in hotels to investigate the impact of DigiTr on innovations and HRP and to test the mediating impact of innovation on the DigiTr-HRP relationship.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors used a quantitative research method in this study, specifically by conducting a hybrid face-to-face and online survey to collect data from 462 human resources (HR) managers, department managers and HR professionals at four- and five-star hotels in Turkey. The structured questionnaire assessed DigiTr, innovations in business models, services and processes and quantitative and qualitative changes in HR. The authors used covariance-based structural equation modeling to test the hypotheses.
Findings
DigiTr affected both innovations and HR planning in hotels, and also the effect of innovations on HR planning. In addition, DigiTr and innovations increased qualitative changes in HR planning but reduced quantitative changes. Finally, innovations mediated the relationship between DigiTr and HR planning.
Practical implications
These findings indicate that employers and employees need to be aware of developments in employment in the tourism industry, as these can significantly impact HR planning via DigiTr and innovations.
Originality/value
This study differs from the existing literature by providing empirical evidence to fill the knowledge gap regarding how DigiTr and innovation affect HR planning.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to examine consumers' purchasing and consumption behavior regarding big data embedded in packaged food post-Covid-19. The second purpose is to determine whether consumer purchasing behavior varies depending on the variety and volume of big data on food packages.
Design/methodology/approach
Semi-structured interviews were conducted to investigate consumer sentiment regarding big embedded data in packaged foods during purchasing. Based on samples from packaged foods sold in international chain stores, interview data collected from 24 participants were subjected to systematic analytical procedures.
Findings
The results revealed that before Covid-19, consumers had positive thoughts about the expiration date, brand, and product contents but did not care much about other data. At the same time, post-Covid-19, there were changes in their attitudes and behaviors on this issue. Post-Covid-19, it has been observed that consumers have positive attitudes and behaviors toward human health and food safety issues regarding unprocessed big data in packaged foods.
Originality/value
This study provides a different perspective on consumer purchasing behavior through big data on packaged foods post-Covid-19. Embedded information in packaged foods provides important data regarding consumer purchasing behavior. As a powerful source of consumer sentiment, this data also provides a reference for consumer purchasing decisions.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to evaluate the relationship between dietary patterns and shift work, sleep quality and burnout among emergency health-care workers.
Design/methodology/approach
The nutritional status, sleep quality and burnout status of health-care workers (n = 91) in Turkey were investigated.
Findings
Among the burnout subgroups, only emotional exhaustion was associated with high adherence to the Meditarrenean diet. (r = 0.37, p < 0.01). Carbohydrates consumed during the shift day were associated with lower sleep quality (r = 0.24, p = 0.02). The intake of protein (r = −0.29, p < 0.01), fat (r = −0.27, p < 0.00), cholesterol (r = −0.31, p < 0.01), phosphorus (r = −0.22, p = 0.03) and iron (r = −0.21, p = 0.04) in shift day was negatively associated with Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) scores (lower PSQI scores indicates good sleep quality). Consumption of vitamin C and potassium on the rest day was significantly associated with better sleep quality (respectively, r = −0.21, p = 0.04 and r=−0.23, p = 0.03). Personal accomplishment was positively correlated with carbohydrate consumption during the shift day and negatively correlated with protein, cholesterol and vitamin B6 intake (respectively, r = 0.22, p = 0.03; r = −0.21, p = 0.03; r=−0.28, p < 0.00, r = −0.28, p < 0.00). Emotional exhaustion was negatively correlated with protein consumption on the shift day (r = −0.21, p = 0.04) and positively correlated with fat consumption on the rest day (r = 0.22, p = 0.02).
Originality/value
The findings confirm the possible role of dietary patterns in health-care workers against burnout and sleep quality attributable to a possible association with nutrients intake on shift or rest day.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to discuss engine health monitoring for unmanned aerial vehicles. It is intended to make consistent predictions about the future status of the engine performance parameters by using their current states.
Design/methodology/approach
The aim is to minimize risks before they turn into problems. In accordance with these objectives, temporal and financial savings are planned to be achieved by contributing processes such as extending the engine life, preventing early disassembly-reassembly and mechanical wears and reducing the maintenance costs. Based on this point of view, a data-based software is developed in MATLAB (Matrix Laboratory) program for the so-called process.
Findings
The software is operated for the performance parameters of the turbojet engine that is used in a small unmanned aerial vehicle of Tusas Engine Industry. The obtained results are compared with the real data of the engine. As a result of this comparison, a fault that may occur in the engine can be detected before being determined.
Originality/value
It is clearly demonstrated that the engine operation in adverse conditions can be prevented. This situation means that the software developed operates successfully.

Abstract
The EU harmonisation has created changes in the military's formal and informal influence in the directions of decreased formal and informal military influence in civilian politics. The EU reforms have created changes in the mindset of the citizens, by creating changes in the security culture of the citizens and in the civil-military related political culture. The desired level of alignment has not been reached. Therefore, the study examines the areas where further alignment is required. Moving from Rebecca L. Schiff's concordance theory, the article examines the relationship between the Turkish military, the civilian politics and the society before and after the EU harmonisation process. It examines the effects of the EU harmonisation process on the changes in the civil-military balance of power, and on the related security culture and political values. The analysis focuses on: (i) increased civilian control and consequent changes in the policy of accountability; (ii) transparency building in the defence sector; (iii) parliamentary oversight; and (iv) the change in the political culture related to the civil-military issues. It also investigates the extent the EU harmonisation has achieved in building democratic civil-military relations in order to align with the EU standards.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to determine the order of importance of blockchain technology gains for foreign trade management. The second aim of the research is to select the most suitable blockchain type for the foreign trade process.
Design/methodology/approach
The data required for the research analysis were collected through comparison matrices scored by foreign trade experts. The data were analyzed with the analytical hierarchy process method, and the gains of blockchain technology for the foreign trade process were prioritized. Finally, the most suitable type of blockchain technology was selected with the PROMETHEE method.
Findings
As a result of the study, subject matter experts perceived that the most critical blockchain gain for the foreign trade process would be cost savings. In addition, it has been observed that the general trade process differs compared to the logistics and payment processes. Finally, open blockchain was the most suitable blockchain type for foreign trade processes.
Research limitations/implications
In this study, the positive gains of blockchain technology are considered. In future studies, it is recommended to consider the existing negative factors to be able to use blockchain technology in foreign trade processes. In addition, it is suggested to conduct a study by dividing foreign trade into two, import and export.
Practical implications
All stakeholders who want to integrate blockchain technology into their foreign trade processes, including foreign trade companies, software developers, policymakers and international institutions, can benefit from the results of this study. A blockchain technology software created for foreign trade management can be shaped according to the results of this study.
Originality/value
Although the gains that blockchain technology provides to foreign trade processes are frequently emphasized in the literature, which gain would be greater has not been examined. The lack of an answer to the issue of how blockchain technology should be designed for foreign trade processes has been the missing part of the relevant literature. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is the first experimental study in the literature that prioritizes blockchain gains and selects the appropriate blockchain type for foreign trade processes.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to present a study that evaluates the readiness level of the Turkish automotive suppliers industry (T-ASI) to provide a foundation for the successful implementation and/or sustainment of lean practices.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper adapts an assessment framework developed by Al-Najem et al. (2013) to conduct the evaluation of the lean readiness (LR) of the T-ASI. Thus, the LR assessment is based on six quality practices related to lean manufacturing (LM), namely: processes; planning and control; human resources; top management and leadership; customer relations; and supplier relations. One research question and three hypotheses were formulated and tested using a combination of descriptive statistics and t-test and Levene’s tests. Data were collected through a survey questionnaire responded by 48 manufacturing organisations members of the Association of Automotive Parts and Components Manufacturers (TAYSAD).
Findings
The results of the study revealed that the T-ASI has a high level of LR, especially in the areas of customer relations and top management and leadership while processes, planning and control and supplier relations still need to be enhanced. In addition, the study found that company size has no effect on the LR level of suppliers whereas supplier level and location of customers have.
Practical implications
As the LR level of the T-ASI is measured, this research study increases the awareness of supplier companies with respect to complementary quality practices that support the implementation and/or sustainment of LM. Thus, managers can use this study as a platform to take better decisions regarding what quality aspects of their operations need to be enhanced to successfully deploy or sustain a lean strategy.
Originality/value
This research is among the very few studies that have focused on evaluating how ready the T-ASI is to successfully implement or sustain lean practices. For this reason, this research expands the very limited existent body of knowledge of LM in the T-ASI.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this research is to determine how supply chain management (SCM) might be less affected by COVID-19 by using innovative technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), eco-friendly corporate practices and other digital advancements. It strongly emphasizes the use of technology to improve supply networks’ and Omani firms’ performance.
Design/methodology/approach
Using a mixed-methods research strategy, this study integrates both qualitative and quantitative approaches. It involves a survey and interviews with supply chain and IT managers from various industries in Oman to gather data and evaluate the impact of technology on SCM.
Findings
This study finds that IoT capabilities, smart technologies (STs) and green practices significantly mitigate COVID-19 impacts on SCM. The performance of the supply chain and the business are both improved by these technologies’ positive effects on integrating various supply chain elements, such as suppliers, internal processes and customer relations.
Research limitations/implications
The main constraint of this study is its concentration on businesses in Oman, potentially restricting the applicability of its findings to broader contexts. Future studies could investigate similar frameworks across various geographic and industry settings.
Practical implications
The findings suggest that incorporating STs into SCM is crucial for enhancing operational efficiency and resilience against disruptions such as COVID-19. This offers valuable insights for managers and policymakers in adopting technology-driven strategies for SCM.
Social implications
This study highlights the significant role of technology in sustaining supply chains during pandemics, thereby supporting economic stability and societal well-being. It underscores the importance of technological advancements in maintaining supply chain continuity in challenging times.
Originality/value
By empirically examining the effect of emerging technologies on enhancing SCM in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically in the Oman market, this research makes a unique contribution to the body of knowledge.

Purpose
Customer orientation (CO) means meeting customers’ needs better than competitors. Competitor orientation means using and acting upon the knowledge of competitors. Thus, the main aim of this study is to analyze the effects of environmental competitiveness on export performance by examining the moderating roles of these variables.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on data from 5,000 firms from a survey run in 2021 in Turkey facilitated by the Chamber of Commerce, the authors tested their hypotheses using partial least squares structural equation modeling and correlation analysis.
Findings
The results show that competitor orientation positively affects the relationship between a competitive environment and export performance. However, the authors do not find evidence of a significant effect on CO.
Practical implications
Service sector managers should sacrifice customers to gain export market share in favor of superiority with competitors.
Originality/value
Prior research has yet to emphasize the importance of competition intensity in export performance for service-logistics firms. However, the environmental competitiveness–performance relationship is better explained with the help of these test results and the two additional moderators suggested in this work. Moreover, the export performance indicators were gathered from an independent source.
