Abstract
Three‐phase inductors with a magnetic travelling field are often used to pump a liquid metal or to stir it in induction stirrers. Due to a finite length of inductor an alternating magnetic field is generated as an additional component to the magnetic travelling field. When an induction pump is used with a rectangular shaped transport channel and a flat inductor shown in Fig.1,this component deforms a force distribution in liquid metal and causes some local whirls. This may play a positive role in stirring of molten metal but it cannot be tolerated in the channel of an induction pump,where a smooth flow is required. In that case the alternating magnetic field should be eliminated. It can be done by using an additional compensating winding or by applying a special type of three‐phase winding that eliminates or reduces the alternating field component. The objective of this paper is to examine the magnetic field and force distribution in molten metal of an induction pump when the alternating magnetic field component is compensated.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to present a method for calculating electromagnetic fields, eddy currents and forces for a quasi-static two-dimensional (2-D) model of linear induction motors (LIMs) where the primary side is modeled as a collection of individual coils.
Design/methodology/approach
An analytical solution using Fourier series is derived for a general source with current excitations residing in an airgap and moving relative to a conducting plate and back iron. Ideal magnetic material with infinite permeability is used to model the primary iron above the primary source and the back iron below the conducting plate.
Findings
The analytical solution is compared to a commercial 2-D finite element analysis (FEA) simulation for validation and then compared to a 2-D FEA model with a more detailed geometry of the LIM. The analytical model accurately predicts LIM thrust even though the geometry of the primary core is simplified as an infinitely long flat slab. 2-D frequency FEA can be used successfully to predict in motion LIM performance.
Originality/value
The analytical solution presented here models the primary excitations as individual discrete coils instead of current sheets, which all existing models are based on. The discrete coils approach provides a more intuitive and realistic model of the LIM.

Abstract
Purpose
The aim of this paper is to present a method for calculating the electromagnetic fields, forces and current density distribution using Fourier series for a two-dimensional quasi steady state model consisting of a conducting uniform plate moving relative to an arbitrary current source with time harmonic excitation.
Design/methodology/approach
The presented solution is valid for an arbitrary source. A specific source is chosen consisting of a single coil made up of two-time harmonic current filaments. The solutions are derived and presented in a form that allows its expansion to include an arbitrary number of spatially shifted coils conducting arbitrary harmonic currents.
Findings
The analytical solution is compared to simulations produced using commercial finite element analysis software, ANSYS Maxwell2D and COMSOL, and is found to be in good agreement. The analytical solution provides a direct method to analyze the spatial harmonics in the system and can be computationally significantly faster especially at high relative speeds between the primary source and conducting plate.
Originality/value
The presented Fourier series solution is applied to simple 2-D model of a single coil with AC current excitation moving relative to a conducting plate. An analytical solution and analysis of this system has not been presented before, to the authors’ knowledge, using Fourier series or any other method.

Abstract
Recent progress in the development of electromagnetic field theory and sophisticated software for solution of complicated, non‐linear, 3‐D structures is not always accompanied with relatively cheap and simply presented engineering instructions, easy to use for regular industrial design. In the paper some theoretical and practical examples are given as to how one can get over a excessive calculating difficulties to obtain quickly simple design directions and reduce complicated theory to simple practical conclusions. The fast and cheap package RNM‐3D is validated by comparison with industrial test data and with the interactive graphics system is the final illustration of the effectiveness of such an approach. RNM‐3D is used successfully in many transformer works the world over.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to focus on the fabrication and characterization of mixed thin-/thick-film thermoelectric microgenerators, based on magnetron sputtered constantan (copper–nickel alloy) and screen-printed silver. To improve the adhesion of the constantan layer to the applied substrates, the additional chromium sublayer was used. The aim of the study was to investigate the influence of chromium sublayer on the electrical and thermoelectric properties of such hybrid microgenerators.
Design/methodology/approach
Fabrication of such structures consisted of several steps – magnetron sputtering of the chromium and then constantan layer, exposing the first arms of thermocouples, applying the second arms by screen-printing technology and firing the prepared structures in a belt furnace. The structures were made both on Al2O3 (alumina) and low temperature co-fired ceramics (LTCC) substrates.
Findings
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, for the first time, laser ablation process was applied to fabricate the first arms of thermocouples from a layer of constantan only or constantan with a chromium sublayer. Geometric measurements have shown that the mapping of mask pattern by laser ablation technique is very accurate.
Originality/value
The determined Seebeck coefficient of the realized structures was about 40.4 µV/K. After firing the exemplary structures at 850°C peak temperature, Seebeck coefficient is increased to an average value of 51 µV/K.

Purpose
This paper aims at explaining variances in the contribution of Islamic crowdfunding platforms (ICFPs) to sustainable development (SD), by adopting an institutional logic perspective (ILP). ICFPs represent a dual institutional overlap between two logics (the Western-mainstream and the Islamic logic) which have an impact on corporate social responsibility (CSR) interpretations, practices, and decisions and whose conflicts are mitigated by choosing different resolution strategies. The authors aim at showing that this choice affects SD differently.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors develop a conceptual typology through the following steps: (1) choice of variables and identification of corresponding variable domains, through literature review. Variables chosen are the elemental CSR dimensions related to various social and environmental corporate responsibilities to whom diverse meaning and emphasis are given under the Western-mainstream and Islamic logics. (2) Identification of three distinct ideal types of ICFPs, building on different resolution strategies to mitigate conflicts between logics; (3) development, for each ideal type, of a set of implications related to SD; (4) implementation of a first test aiming at assigning real cases to each ideal type.
Findings
The authors identify Western-mimicking (platforms adopting as resolution strategy decoupling or compartmentalizing strategies), Islamic-driven (platforms focusing on one prevailing logic) and Syncretism-inspired (platforms adopting hybridizing practices) ideal-types.
Originality/value
It is the first paper suggesting ILP to explain variances in crowdfunding platforms' role in addressing SD. It focuses on a specific type of CF platforms till now neglected.

Abstract
Purpose
Police agencies are under pressure to improve their performance and provide outstanding services for the community. In response, academics and practitioners have called to adopt effective methods that help these agencies to achieve their goals. Studies reported that benchmarking has a role to improve organisational performance. However, poor evidence of using benchmarking within police agencies and very few studies examine the relationship between it and police performance. Motivated by this gap, this study aims to explore and examine this relationship under the mediating role of innovation culture.
Design/methodology/approach
A quantitative methodology was utilised in this study. Data used to examine the hypotheses were obtained from the departments and stations of the Dubai Police Force (DPF), and the population comprised head section officers. A total of 338 questionnaires were distributed to respondents, 252 of which were returned. The hypothesised relationships were tested with the data collected by SPSS and SmartPLS statistical software.
Findings
Findings clearly show that benchmarking is directly and indirectly associated with the organisational performance of the DPF through innovation culture. Results support the notion that innovation culture facilitates the implementation of proper benchmarking projects in the DPF, which positively affects different aspects of its performance.
Research limitations/implications
This study includes several limitations. Specifically, the generalisability of the findings should be considered. The analysis applies only to the DPF in the UAE. Thus, investigating and analysing variables in different police agencies in the UAE or internationally would be valuable.
Practical implications
Several recommendations are provided in relation to the obtained results to assist managers and decision makers in the DPF and other police agencies. This study includes suggestions for improving police performance by establishing an innovation culture and adopting benchmarking practices.
Originality/value
Although several contributions indicated that benchmarking and innovation culture is a key determinant of success, the literature lacks empirical studies investigating this link in the police field. This study is the only one to date that examined this relationship in police services. Accordingly, this study seeks to bridge this gap and delivers empirical evidence and theoretical insight to better understand this relationship.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to provide a broad overview of the corpus of studies on digital finance in relation to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and startups.
Design/methodology/approach
Bibliometric analysis was used, allowing to investigate the relevant literature (735 articles). In accordance with best practices, relevant articles were identified on the topic following the PRISMA 2020 framework that ensures reproducible and rigorous results. The search then proceeds with performance analysis, identifying key trends at the intersection of research fields, including distribution of articles by year, citations by year, most cited contributions and most cited and prolific authors. This is followed by analyses of co-citation, co-authorship and co-occurrence with a detailed description of the thematic clusters identified.
Findings
Performance analysis shows that scholarly output covers a 12-year period, starting in 2011, and demonstrates a growing interest in this topic. Co-occurrence analysis reveals a significant intellectual structure which allows numerous knowledge gaps to emerge, and these offer new opportunities to be addressed in future research.
Originality/value
This study uniquely focuses on the evolution of the research domain related to digital finance associated with SMEs and startups. It provides implications for practitioners and avenues that researchers can develop in the future to produce impactful studies.
