Abstract
Purpose
A different framework based on a parametric version of the process generating the hedonic scores is adopted. More precisely, a probability distribution for ordinal responses is proposed as a mixture of two components, denoted as feeling (as expressed preference) and uncertainty component (as inherent indecision). The purpose of this paper is to analyse the effect of covariates on the consumers’ behaviour pattern according to a statistical model.
Design/methodology/approach
Sample data come from a multidisciplinary research aimed to improve the quality and marketability of soft fruits. Then, a stochastic model with subjects’ and objects’ covariates is built and the interpretation of significant results is discussed.
Findings
The joint effects of personal characteristics and chemical contents of juice on the hedonic scores given by consumers are examined and graphically depicted by means of a significant model.
Originality/value
The paper suggests a multi-product approach to expressed hedonic scores by means of a generalization of CUB models.

Abstract
Thermal protection of mineral‐oil‐filled substation distribution transformers is of critical importance in power systems. The failure of such a transformer is a matter of significant concern for electrical utilities, not only for the consequent severe economic losses, but also because the utility response to a customer during outage condition is one of the major factors in determining the overall customer attitude towards the utility. Therefore, it is essential to estimate the thermal state of transformers during load cycling and, in presence of overload conditions, to evaluate the need to reduce the load current or to install another transformer bay. A method of solving the transformer's thermal model, considering explicitly the source of uncertainty affecting its parameters, is required. In this paper, such an activity is developed by an interval‐based approach, which provides the calculation of the inner and outer solution in the hot‐spot temperature or top‐oil temperature estimation process, keeping track of correlation between uncertain quantities.

Abstract
Purpose
Healthcare workforce shortages, particularly in rural areas, present a global challenge. The purpose of this study is to explore the leadership dynamics within federally qualified health centers (FQHC) in rural Oklahoma, focusing on recruitment, retention, job satisfaction and development practices.
Design/methodology/approach
Eighteen managers with five or more years of tenure from Oklahoma FQHCs were interviewed. Leadership’s role in influencing job satisfaction, recruitment, retention and development practices was analyzed using a multilevel ecological framework through qualitative content analysis with NVivo.
Findings
The analysis includes ten key themes including the critical role of leadership in addressing recruitment and retention challenges, the importance of aligning organizational culture, rural culture, access challenges, trainings and values with workforce development initiatives, and the impact of leadership practices on job satisfaction.
Originality/value
This study uniquely examines leadership strategies in rural FQHCs, integrating ecological considerations for cultural, logistical and community-specific factors. It emphasizes the pivotal role leadership plays in shaping workforce development. As rural healthcare evolves, refining these approaches is crucial for addressing workforce challenges, improving healthcare access and ensuring that rural FQHCs remain sustainable, driving positive outcomes for healthcare professionals and communities.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to analyse the brand communication on social media (SM) made by two- and three-starred restaurants and the customer reaction in terms of engagement effects during a crisis. The research highlights the connections between brand communication and engagement dynamics on Instagram by looking for differences in the strategies of two and three-starred restaurants and by highlighting the changes in the background engagement drivers.
Design/methodology/approach
Using data collected from 5,666 Instagram posts by 34 Italian Michelin-starred restaurants, the authors analysed the crisis-driven changes in online communication and customer engagement comparing three phases of the COVID-19 pandemic by applying a linear regression model with fixed effects.
Findings
Michelin-starred restaurants changed their strategies of brand communication to overcome the effects of the crisis. The findings highlight the importance of SM as a tool to stay in touch with consumers and the pivotal role of customers in engagement, especially during a pandemic.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is among the first studies to investigate the changes in brand communication and the effects on customer engagement during a pandemic, with a focus on Instagram. It contributes to understanding the role of platform and the main drivers of engagement on Instagram, as well as suggesting how managers can improve brand value using SM.
